What I've Learned From Greek Chat

(1) The Bali bombers were middle easterners
(2) The Nazi Party was a left-wing party
(3) The London bombers came from the Middle East

Careful now... some folks here might not realize that you are being just a tad sarcastic - or that you just might be mocking certain folk's ignorance... just saying that all ;)

As for what I have learned:
(1) All media is liberal
(2) Canada sent troops to Vietnam
(3) Don't trust dictonaries, they can be very wrong...

KSigkid 11-14-2005 08:02 AM

Interesting thread...I'll jump in:

1) It's ok to make generalizations about Republicans and conservatives, but if someone says the same things about Democrats, it's unacceptable.

2) Republicans are the only ones who make mistakes on this board; Democrats, liberals and others have never made a wrong statement.

Seriously though, I wish everyone would admit that there are ridiculous posters on ALL sides of the political spectrum who contribute to the political animosity on the board.

i'd say that conservatives seem to have a lot to say about liberals.

They do - and there are times when the criticisms of liberals by conservatives are unfair. I am just saying that it works both ways.

I've learned that if you are going to disagree with someone, you had better have a list of links to reputable sites outlining why your opinion is viable. Otherwise, you will get attacked by people who think it is their job to prove you wrong and/or change your mind. :D

Rudey 11-14-2005 12:00 PM

I've learned that there are crazy Canadians on this website that make up lies and threaten to kill members of Greekchat that don't agree with them.

In that vein, i've learned that people like to talk a lot of shit but can't back it up!

ROTFL!!!!

I've learned that two people can agree completely on the same topic, yet one of them will still argue about it!

so you're just looking at it from a conservative point of view with your original post and not making any sort of statement.

gotcha.

starang21 11-14-2005 01:51 PM

people are sensitive and can't handle someone disagreeing with them.

hoosier 11-14-2005 01:57 PM

1 - libs/Dems can't and don't logically debate. By the second sentence, they are calling names

2 - many GC posters are young. When I was young, I didn't realize that I was being bombarded daily by Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite with liberally slanted news, either.

3 - 2500+ posts on GC have not converted many to truth, justice, or the American Way. Hopefully the seed has been planted in a few young skulls.

ZTAngel 11-14-2005 02:30 PM

I've learned that every news topic must degenerate into an argument between the democrats and the republicans as to which one is right.

I've learned that people will try to push their agenda and beliefs down other peoples' throats. You're not going to change people's mind on GC and they're not going to change your's. Give it up.

KillarneyRose 11-14-2005 03:01 PM

I have learned that, unfortunately, some people are intimidated by the hotness of others :(

33girl 11-14-2005 03:08 PM

I have learned that Tracy really needs to read the PMs and email I sent her. :p

I thought of that...then I realized that the thread there is a "chit-chat" what have you learned and this thread is a "news/political" what have you learned...

Just live each forum has it's own Random. I guess.

PM_Mama00 11-14-2005 03:25 PM

I've learned that people can be pretty big hypocrites when it comes to civil liberties and voting on the "good" of people's lives.

I've learned that with each new name that Craig comes up with, a new follower of his will be born. And they will defend him to the end. (sorry I feel that that is news-worthy) :)

I've learned that racial discussions cannot happen in mature terms because some idiot (white or wanabe black) will join in and ruin it.

I've learned that George Bush hates everyone.

Are you saying white and wannabe black(as in white person who wants to be black) or white and black(black just happened to have an adjective)?

Since you're talking about mature race discussions...just curious...

Really? Other Canadians find you to be a loathsome little toad as well? Hmmm who knew...

bcdphie 11-14-2005 07:35 PM

1) I've learned that because I don't go to church or believe in god I have no morals or values, and that I have no clue how to be a good and decent human being.

2) I've learned because I was married by a Justice of the Peace my marriage isn't a "real" marriage.

Kind of - just echoing the sarcasm of the original poster.

I've learned that threads like these usually don't last too long. On a more positive note, I've also learned that there are people on all sides of the political spectrum who are capable of mature debate. For every person who just goes extreme for no reason, there are posters like Munchkin03, GeekyPenguin and others who I may not agree with, but who I have to respect for being thoughtful on topics.

well, i'd say there are a number of intelligent posters on this site. then a few here and there who bring the general IQ level down with innate stupidity.

Wasn't tryin gto be witty. Never said you were white.

My point is that I've never seen a non African American so incredibly passionate as you. Nothing wrong with that until you start making immature comments to ruin a good discussion.

And I never said that I'm mature when it comes to those issues.... or any issues. I like reading mature discussions and learning about things without osmeone jumping in and constantly calling people out as racist.

That's another thing I learned. Every white person on GC is racist apparently.

BTW... I also learned a helluva lot more about African American... cultures I guess you could say.... from Libra (where has she been?) because even though she got frustrated with my sheltered attitude, she still explained things in a way that wasnt "you're a biggot. you're racist. you're ignorant". She didn't throw around the word ignorant. If you want people to become educated and get your point across, don't offend them. Try to explain things to them, and if they still don't get it, explain it again. And if they still don't get it and make racial comments, then go off on them. Don't start calling someone ignorant the first minute they say something or make a mistake. Remember that some of us didn't grow up in diverse neighborhoods/cultures/societies.

i know there are typos in here. i'm tired. i don't care. my apologies.

I've learned that apparently the words "Under God" have ALWAYS been in the pledge and our country will go to hell if they are taken out.

i'm passionate, so that makes me want to be black??

hmmm.....uhhh....what are you talking about??

the bastion of clear thinking strikes again.

i do find it funny that people on gc use sheltered upbringings to excuse ignorance. it's almost 2006, use common sense.

because you know, racism and bigotry are strictly a black/white issue.

i guess asians really aren't supposed to comment.

"perpetual foreigner syndrome" strikes again.

It's not using it as an excuse. Do you really expect someone who grew up in a mostly white neighborhood (with very very few Asian/Indians/Arabs/African Americans) to know everything there it to know?
