Hey Girls!!!!!!
I hope everyone is feeling great about the upcoming rush season! Well, i am hopinbg that we can more than double our size this year(don't worry we only have 7 coming back) if anyone has any really good suggestions...post them, i'd like to read. Jen delta epsilon |
RUSH
Hi everyone! I just got elected as MRC and I'm looking for any and all advice, info, or ideas that you may have-especially with themes and bid day shirts. My chapter usually doesn't have a big spring recruitment but I'm hoping to change that. You can e-mail me at Tu1001grls@aol.com. |
Hey Tu100grls:
I just noticed that you are from Towson State...I a m from Villa Julie!! I think that is pretty cool! Anyway, congrats on your new position! I can't think of any ideas at the moment, but I will keep you posted! We, too, have a very low spring recruitment number. Best of luck! LITP, Jadey |
Hey Tu100grls:
I'm from Clarion...If you had a specific question I could help you out...I joined almost four years ago, and would to help out. I can't think of any ideas off the top of my head, but our recruitment is small at Clarion, too. I was also a former recruitment counselor so maybe I can be of some help. I would love to help another Phi Sig out!!! LITP, Kirsten "When only the best will do!" |

i just got elected ass mrc. our spring rush is formal its a big deal i have lots of ideas if you need them things we did in the past. |
Hi, everyone. I'm planning on going through informal rush at my school in Miami and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to get me through this successfully. My worry is that I'm a junior and summer rush has limited spots open. I would have rushed sooner, but I'm a transfer student. Any ideas? By the way, I've already decided I'm rushing Phi Sig.
Thanks in advance! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
Butterfly....that is awesome that you want to go Phi Sig. My suggestion to get ya in is to just be yourself. What made you so sure that you wanted Phi Sig and only Phi Sig? I went into rush with the same mentality and after meeting all of the other chaptes, I left with that same mentality! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif There is no doubt nin my mind that I joined the right sorority. You just know, there is no other way to describe it! Well keep me posted, hopefully one day I will be able to call you my sister. Where did you transfer from?

COB Ideas??
Hi girls! I'm a Phi Sig in Sacramento, Ca and I'm planning on doing recruitment for the next term. I was wondering if anyone had any cool ideas for COB events. We've got our fall rush down pretty good but I've been having trouble thinking of some good events for COB. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!!
LITP Colleen |
Hey SacBabe,
I can't think of a lot of ideas right now. I guess it depends on where you have your COB parties...do you stay on campus or are you willing to go out? We usually have movie nights, ice cream social, or going out bowling. i'm sure your MRC binder has a list of ideas... Jen ------------------ Delta Epsilon - Phi Sigma Sigma |
Need Recruiment Ideas
Hey girls -
Our school just switched to Philanthropy Recruitment during second round, instead of Skit round which we have all been doing since the beginning of time. Needless to say, we need ideas. Are there any of you out there who have already made the switch to philanthropy recruitment, and if so, have you found an activity that seems to be working well?? Even if your school doesn't have philanthropy rec., if you have any cool ideas for an arts-and-craftsy type thing that we can do with the PNMs, that would be outstanding. LITP |
We have been doing philanthropy projects for a while at Clarion. One really cool thing that we did was make wish boxes out of popsicle sticks. We matched up PNM's with sister, and make the wish boxes and decorated them. They turned out really well, and then we donated them to a children's hospital.
For the wish box, you are supposed to put in something to represent what you are wishing for. If you wish for money, put in a penny. If you wish for a boy, put in a magazine picture or a picture of that boy, etc. These are fun to make for other sisters, too. |
for our philanthropy rush we made cards to send to children at a nearby hospital....we had a great response from pnm's. they were excited to be able to participate in our philanthropy
|
Get Well Bags
I am the rush chair for my chapter and we have to do a philanthropy project. This year, I bought brown paper bags, stickers and a lot of little party favors/ coloring books and crayons from the dollar store. During Rush, the PNMs decorated the bags and put some little toys and coloring pages in the bags. Then, a few weeks ago on make a difference day, our new class brought all the bags to a local children's hosptial. The event went over VERY well!
|
Hey there! Well here at Sac State we had an AWESOME recruitment! For our activity we bought plastic light switch plates from a hardware/craft store. They are about 10 cents a piece. Then we bought decals, painting markers, and stickers and let the girls go crazy and decorate them. It was a lot of fun and it turned out really well. Once the plates were dry we donated them to our local philanthropy Shriners Hospital for the children to put on their light switches in their rooms.
|
we do bulid-a-bear during our informal recruitment...which is a store at the mall where you pick your bear (or animal) stuff it, dress it, and then name it!!! we then donate the bears to the University of Maryland hospital. You could use this at formal rush by goinbg to a craft store and buying the bears, and then little outifts, robbons, etc and make "birth" certificates on a computer.
|
they picked one
thanks for all your help everyone... those were amazing ideas. the chapter voted and decided to go with making pillows/blankets for children who were victims of the Sep. 11 attacks, and also for a local syracuse shelter. (i personally wanted to go with the wish boxes or the bears, but no one listens to me anyway). anyway, i just wanted to say thanks again!
litp and have a happy holiday season!! |
Sring Recruitment 2002
Quote:
 Sring rush is just around the corner and I thought posting a question on the message board for ideas might even be better than asking our local alumni. My question was this. Every year for rush workshops we always practice conversation by making the older sisters pretend they are rushees and the younger sisters have to try to "rush" them. It works fairly o.k, but I was wondering if any of ya'll have ever tried anything different. L.I.T.P Delta Psihttp://hometown.aol.com/phisigfl/ |
A Bunch of Q's About Rush
Ok, So I have a few questions about recruitment. Or actually I need help with some new ideas. Oh, first I don't know if anyone remembers my post about running for vice archon but I got it Monday night!! Yeah!! Ok now to business. We have a whole bunch of containers in our office with different decorations for rush parties. We have one that has a whole bunch of Mardi Gras decorations, but none of us know how this party goes. We are having informal recruitment next week and we would love to do something along this theme if possible. So if anyone has done this party before or heard about it or has any suggestions please let me know. Also does anyone have any creative ideas for icebreaker games? We are all very nervous about recruitment for a few reasons, one because we are the smallest sorority on campus (but we have always gone for quality not quantity and have a much better result in the end anyways) and also we have a chapter consultant that will be here this week. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

Pref Night
Hey Sigsters,
I have heard other sisters mention there pref night in the general forums and some have mentioned having a brief ceremony afterwards that includes everyone. What do you do for that? I think that would be wonderful, to give everyone a chance to talk. Is it written anywhere in the ritual book and the archon just didn't tell me : ) |
as far as i know we don't have what you describe...you could always plan your own sisterhood afterwards...

rush ideas
I'm from the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter at Cal State Univ. of Bakersfield, and we always have fun rush ideas and events.
SOme really successful ones that I've done so far that really get the girls hooked and reeled in are: - Dressing up as something that represents you (ex: as a soccer player or whatever sport you enjoy, nurse, teacher, or whatever suits you) This shows our inclusiveness and originality and lots of girls like that. - slide show night is also cool and you can include pix from philanthropies that you've done, sisterhood events, socials... - luau theme - decade themes These are just a couple that I can think of right now which can start you off! Pref night
Hey girls!!
I'm the MRC for my chapter and i'm in the process of getting things straight for formal Recruitment. I have everything planned excepted Pref night!! i was just wondering how other chapter set up for pref. we do rush in the commons in different rooms so we don't have a house to use, just a plain old room. i was thinking of having rose petals on the floor in thewalkway to the circle. we have used columns in the past, but ours are old and breaking, i was hoping to try something new too.i was trying about using a real wishing well. (we are using it the first night in the wonderland theme) then we normally have white lights that aline the room. Do you have anymore idea of what your chapter does for pref. it would be helpful!! thanks:) LITP, mary |
Fall Recruitment
Hello Ladies!
Our chapter is getting ready for fall recruitment, and we need to submit what we are going to do for "New Student Week". Basically, we will have an indoor table (so a pretty small area) and need fun activities to bring the new students to out booth. Any ideas? @---)----DixoBunny |
Check out the other post, I think its for fundraising, about getting "Layed" by Phi Sigs, with the lays. If you can't sell them, give them out... Sorry if I stole some one's idea...
|
give out something to the students and pnm that will make them remember you...and be sure to do it with a smile!!! the layed idea is a great one...or maybe you could some how incorporate a fundraiser in... :) good luck out there with rush!

Informal Rush Ideas
My chapter is going to have to rely a lot on informal rush (C.O.B) this year. At the moment our chapter is at 17 sisters strong. But by December Nationals is requesting that we reach 40.   To be honest I have every faith that we can achieve that goal, because I know our sisters and their awesome. I don't see how someone could not want to be a part of it all :D However, our ideas for C.O.B are kinda dated and over used. We generally meet them at the Phi Sig house and then take them bowling or skating. I'm not a big fan of either of those ideas so I thought you guys might be able to lend a little help by sharing what ya'll do for informal recruitment. Anything from how you go about advertising for it to what you do the night (or nights) of C.O.B
PSLAM, "Grand Mastah" |
Well a good way to advertise is in the hall ways and bulletin boards of all the dorms. For us its kewl because a lot of sisters live in all the different dorms. Also, talking up your "classroom buddies" and telling them to come. Even if they don't come, they might tell THEIR friends to come. You have to tell like THE WHOLE WORLD...make sure as many people you know know about the COB. Advertise everywhere, all the popular places, even places off campus, but that you know a lot of people go to. Usually what we do is decorate the house really nice. Get as many sisters (in letters) to show up and put in a kewl chick flick while we do the COB (plus we have tons of food and refreshmants). Thats what my COB was like and it felt great cuz it was nice and comfortable and not at all intimating. The movie gets everyone talking so theres never a a lull in the conversation. Plus the sisters wearing letters shows how close we are and what kewl letters you could have when you join! I hope this helps. GOOD LUCK and I know you guys can bring your numbers up even higher than 40 :D
|
What exactly are your rush ideas? If you list what you have, i'm sure the other sisters on this list can add to it.
Phisigsigchic has a point though. Invite EVERYONE you know- classroom buddies, etc. In fact, if you have an open event or something before COB, it would be add to your advertising. We do a Karaoke Night every year whose proceeds go to a battered women's shelter, and we manage to get our name out there (probably helps that sisters get up and sing and we chant that P-P-P-H-I cheer). Another idea is to have a "wish list," where the sisters in your chapter write down the names of girls that they know who'd make great phi sigs and you can send them invitations to your COB events. It's very nice to get a personal invite to anything. Hope this helps, but I can probably come up with more ideas.... IM me at ShortyRi7 and we can talk. =) |
alright, this might sound a little obvious, but sometime the most effective ways to recruit are the most spontaneous. sometimes we'll invite PNMs to crush parties or to come with us to fraternity or campus parties. it all depends on the girl, i guess, but some like to see that not only are we close as sisters, but also that we like to have a good time. plus, i think COBing can get tough because a lot of girls can be intimidated by the whole "sisters" thing - thats why many don't go through formal rush in the first place. so if we're asking them to come to the house and chill with us, sometimes they aren't all gung-ho. but if we take them to a party or a bar in a group setting, i think it takes away some of the pressure (from them AND us). anyway - it worked for our chapter, we got quite a few COBs through the door that way.
good luck grand mastah, i know you guys can do it. |
wow these are some awesome ideas. i especially loved the "wish list" idea. Wow i have gotten so many idea from all the phi sig GCers that I could tell our president and social chair. Keep them coming! :D
|
C.O.B Ideas
Wow  Thanks for the great ideas guys, keep em' coming! I definately have a better sense of P.R for C.O.B events now. For our first C.O.B the Recruitment chair and I (archon) have decided on hosting a BBQ at the Phi Sig house. Plus, at our campus if people even smell food (especially free food) their autimatically interested in whatever your selling. What we would like to do is have the BBQ and then hold one other event the next night for the girls that are truely serious about bidding Phi Sig. But...we can't think of a cute idea for the day after the BBQ. We want it to be fairly quick and informative. That way we can go ahead and get C.O.B committee to vote and get back to the "new members" that night to let them know the good news :D Any sisters out there with ideas???
PSLAM, "Grand Mastah" |
Hmmm... let's see.... See you can take COBing like informal rush, and still have those little parties and stuff with the themes. You can have a lil "garden party" theme after the BBQ, where you can have those lil veggie platters, etc and have your excellence binder out or facts or something on a table that they can flip through. We made a video about the things we do year round so that they can get the idea that we are serious about what we do, but have fun at the same time... (i think i love that video because of all the songs in it and hate the video since it has pics of me making a fool outta myself on the dance floor).
You can also invite girls to just chill with sisters, not at the house or anything like that because that might be a bit intimidating, but to the movies, dinner at the local hang out, wherever the PNM won't feel more uncomfy than she is already. Remember that the goal is to get the PNM relaxed and talking so that you can find our more about her, the PNM can find out more about you and the sorority, and to see if she'd meet the reqs of being Phi Sig. |
Rush
This fall informal recruitment at my school is being held September 24th-28th. When does everyone else have rush in the fall? Also, how do you guys all prepare for rush....our chapter holds a rush retreat every semester, I was just interested in seeing how other chapters prepare for rush. Thanks and good luck with recruitment!
|
Hey there,
My chapter does informal too. We haven't done a formal recruitment since 1999 spring since the only other group is DZ and neither of us are successful at it. The chapter is having a recruitment retreat Sept 1, theere are a couple members who can't make it, but most of them will be there. So first 2 weeks of school we have tables in the student centre. then the 2nd and 3rd weeks we have info parties. The 25 Sept. is pref/bid and a couple days later we pin. it's all pretty simple. the hardest part is getting girls who sign up at tables to actually come out to the info parties. We're usually pretty flexible so if someone can't make it we'll have a lunch date with her. Last Fall semester we had 2 classes, about 2-3 weeks apart. so the chapter is definitely willing to COB and pin when necessary...that's why Vision really fits us. That's about it...this year they're not even giving out grab bags at the tables...they're saving the money for bid day instead. But I'm leaving so this is the first recruitment I'll be missing since I joined :( oh well, I always hated sitting at tables (I'm not outgoing) |
