Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire
Who else besides me already has tickets for the midnight showing next Thursday night/Friday morning? I know one of my sisterd does for her, her boyfriend, and her whole family
|
I would totally buy tickets for the midnight showing if I didn't have to work the next morning. My husband and I did go to the first showing (12:00 a.m.) of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when that came out two years ago. It was really cool to see all the hardcore HP fans out there!!
I did get together 20+ friends to go see Goblet of Fire next Friday night, when we all don't have to work the next morning. :) I can't wait to see this one!! |
My absolutely favorite HP book; cannot wait to see the movie!
|
You will all go to hell for watching this satanic movie.
On a side note, I'll be buying the DVD when I'm in Indonesia. :) |

I can't wait to see it! Unfortunately, I have to attend a conference out of town the weekend that it opens. :( I'm sad, because going to the Harry Potter movie on opening night has been my birthday thing for a couple years (whenever the new Harry Potter comes out in November). I guess I'll have to wait until the next week to see it, but maybe it's better that way...at least I won't have to throw screeching rugrats out of my way as I try to wrangle the best seat in the theater. |
I'm going Friday night... later. Hopefully (though I doubt it) all the tweens will have seen it the night before. When I saw POA, every time an actor would come on, the girls in the front would start SCREAMING!
We'll see. But I'm still excited. |
I'm hoping to go Friday - I have class at night, but maybe I'll get out early (or others will want to go to a late showing with me :)), and then I have class the next morning, too :p
As long as I see it next weekend, I will be happy. |
I cannot wait for this movie to come out. The preview looks really good! I probably won't see it until I go to VA for Thanksgiving though. That's the kind of movie I want to see with my family.

I have tickets for 4:30 Friday afternoon. I've seen all the HPs on opening day.
|
Not to brag... but I saw the movie on Sunday! (It was a sneak preview in Miami... that's one of the perks of being friends with the local TV station's movie critic!) It was absolutely AMAZING- and definitely my favorite HP movie so far (which is funny, since Goblet of Fire is my favorite book of the series)!
So yeah, the new director rocks... and the movie is SO funny in some parts, and really sad in others. You guys won't be disappointed :) |

I think we're going to see a matinee on Saturday. Yikes, that sounds like perfect "rugrat" timing. That might suck. :(
|
The husband's making me go to a birthday party for a coworker of his on Friday night and then a Ultimate Fight Club PPV party on Saturday night, so I'm making him take me to the late show on Sunday night. I hope there won't be as many kiddies at that show.

My friends and I left work a little early today to catch a 3:15 showing. We had to sit in the 3rd row and crane our necks the whole time because we got there after the previews started, but it was so worth it! HP4 is my favorite book, and now it is my favorite movie. It was awesome! And it did stay pretty true to the book. Of course they had to leave some things out, or else the movie would have been WAY too long, but I think pretty much everything important was kept in. I liked it much better than the 3rd movie! One weird thing, though, for me was that Sirius talking to Harry via the fireplace was not at ALL how I had pictured it! But... minor detail. Oh, another thing is that Dobby and Winky are completely missing from the movie. I liked how they did Voldemort, and he was pretty much how I pictured him. I might actually see it again with Mr. SSS, and sit further back so I can see better!
|
Just got back from seeing it about an hour ago. I really liked it and I didn't really miss anything that was left out. I'm also one of those who read it such a long time ago that I had forgotten a lot of it.
For some reason, I was thinking that Victor Krum was supposed to be some handsome hunk, but he wasn't. |
I'm taking my screeching rugrats to see it tomorrow at 4 pm. I bought the tickets tonight. My kids don't screech though.. they're really good at the movies and always have been.

Saw HP4 at the 11am show this morning and i gotta say....
this film series keeps getting better and better..... One of the best films of the year..... |
Saw it last night! Loved it!:D
|
I saw the Midnight showing of it. I really enjoyed the movie. There were a few people dressed up, but nothing crazy. When the lights went down, people started applauding, but then everyone got quiet and just watched the movie. Everyone was so into it. It was an enjoyable viewing expierence.
I did not like how they took the first like 10 chapters and made it into like 5 minutes. The first part just really fast for me, but that could just be because I have just started to reread the book. I know that they had to limit the material, but I wanted to see more Quidditch. Voldemort looked like how I imagined he would. I loved the fact, that they kept what he would look like a secret for as long as they did. I didn't look that hard, but I didn't see any production pictures of him. So seeing him appear in the flesh was cool. The scene with Voldemort returning and the little battle with Harry was done well IMO. But yeah, overall, it was the best in the series for me. There was humor (the bathtub scene with Moaning Myrtle), drama, and suspense. |
saw it last night - and loved it!

Ok, I admit it- I cried.
Anyone else? |

I would just like to say that this was my favorite movie out of series so far. My favorite book out of the series is Prisoner of Azkaban. While they did leave out parts, who wouldn't when the book is over 700 pages, I think they did an EXCELLENT job leaving all the important parts in. I didn't leave the theater feeling like they were missing important parts as I did in Prisoner of Azkaban. Just a great all around great job they did with this one!! |
Ok... someone help me out here. So I'm reading the Yahoo user reviews (yeah I know...) and all the people dissing the movie keep mentioning the fact that Rita Skeeter's animagus form wasn't revealed.
Didn't that not occur until the 5th book? I mean I remember them shoo-ing away a bug in the 4th book, but I don't remember that tidbit being revealed for sure until the 5th. It just seemed REALLY nitpicky. I liked it. I felt like I was going through a Cliff Notes version of GOF in some parts. But good visuals and action sequences. Better acting on the boys' parts. (Awesome facial expressions.) And Voldemort didn't look as scary as I imagined him to be. But it was still well done. On a side note, I think we were sitting in front of people that had never read the books before. When Voldie removed Malfoy's mask in the graveyard, I heard a collective *GASP.* It was so funny. ETA: Barty Crouch Jr. was a FREAK! The actor was awesome. Same goes for Mad-Eye. Loved the "gum under the table" scene. |

I saw it this morning... There were maybe 10 or 15 people in the theatre. Wow. I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely wonderful!!!!! The way they did the Quidditch World Cup (the arena) was so impressive! There were a couple of minor details that I missed (like Sirius not being in it very much and not placing as much emphasis on Harry's crush on Cho), but I was so pleased with it. Fred and George's characters really stood out, I thought they were great. I wished the scene with Voldemort had lasted longer, but it's understandable. And OMG, NO LUDO BAGMAN?!?!? Did anyone else think that Dumbledore was much more "on edge" and kinda angry in this movie? I always imagine him as forceful, but never anything but gentle and kind. He just seemed very tough. *shrug* I can't wait to see it again. It had me laughing a lot (actually everyone in the theatre was cracking up). |
I thought Dumbledore was also more harsh than usual. It was a striking difference. I thought maybe it was because he was genuinely anxious and concerned about the events going on. At the end, he was more gentle and caring again.
I didn't read the books but wasn't surprised to see Malfoy there at all. At the end of this one, you don't feel the joyous victorious happy feeling, which makes it very different from the others. It was definitely more sad. I really need to read the books because I was very confused at times and was asking my daughter questions and she got very irritated with me..lol. "You talk too much!" |
I have tikets to see it Monday afternoon because of my husband's crazy work schedule. I'm excited because this will be the first time that I've seen a Harry Potter movie in Imax. Lets just hope that it live up to all the expectations I have. The one thing I'm not looking forward to seeing is the Death Eaters at the World Cup - they look like freaky KKK uniforms with skull masks.
|
I thought this was the best HP movie of all. There was no need to reveal Rita Skeeter's animagus - they didn't focus on that. The movie was already 2 1/2 hrs long. The World Quidditch Cup was just like I imagined it (with the tents) - even better when I saw the stadium. The Dark Mark was illustrated alot better than I imagined.
I didn't cry, though (but it was sad....) worse spoiler did anyone else hear Dumbledore's speech about remembering the friendships that were established? I wonder if the 3 schools will have to eventually combine in order to fight Voldemort? |

One thing that I didn't really like was that they had Beauxbatons as an all-girls' school and Durmstrang as an all-boys' school. I guess I understand the reasoning for the film story, but I wasn't crazy about it. |
i've been following harry potter since april '00 and i have to say i was extremely disappointed in this movie. there were some details important to future movies that were definitely left out. at the risk of spoiling i am going to refrain from saying anything further.

Book 4, page 267.... "A boy in paly blue robes jumped down from the carriage...." "Around a dozen boys and girls- all, by the look of them, in their late teens....." It seems to just call the students from Durnstrang "people". :) |

A.P.B. for: Dobby, Winky, Rita Skeeter's story, and WHAT THE HELL WAS BARTY, Jr. DOING IN THE RIDDLE HOUSE:confused:  I understand keeping it short but there was a lot of pertinent information in GoF that leads to OotP that is left out. I mean the only important fact left out of PoA was the origin of the Maurader's Map (i.e: How did Lupin know how to opporate the map, and why was Harry's patronus a stag?) I know the answers to these questions but someone who didn't read the book won't. (and believe me they ask). They left out SO much more. Or more to the point, they gave us a taste but we still don't know what we ate. I thought I'd get emotional when Cedric died but it happened so fast I didn't get a chance to. However, I must concide, it would have been too long for all the details to be there. |

Yeah - no SPEW. I like Dobby - it would've been comical seeing him with all the hats and mismatched socks. Looks like they changed actresses for Angelina, too. I was trying to figureout why Fred & George were in Harry, Ron, & Hermoine's potions class. If they're in a higher year, they wouldn't be in the same class, right? |
Saw the movie yesterday. Loved it, but I have some gripes.
Leaving space just in case. :D Gripe 1: The Quiddtich world cup, NOT NEARLY LONG ENOUGH!!! IMPO. I was bummed how short it was. Gripe 2: Sirious. You didn't see him as much as we should have. That sucked. Gripe 3: The end. Was really nothing like the book. They left out the fact that Sirious comes to see Harry. The fact that DD and Crouch and some other guy that I can't think of the name right now, are arguing about Voldemort being back. They don't believe DD. And then doesn't DD send Severus on his 'mission' at the end of GoF, because it didn't happen in the movie. They never explained the prize money (I don't even think it was mentioned) which is important to Fred and George. I guess they are going to leave the joke shop out of the next 3 movies all together. I really didn't understand the point of Barty being in the beginning but by the end I knew it was just so they didn't have to verbally have someone explain that he was given the task. By him being in the beginning and Voldemort giving him the task, bam, we know. My friend, who has never read the books, was only slightly confused at the beginning because it jumped around pretty quickly, but the rest of the movie (ie. after the world cup) she understood and she was fine. She's just going to read the first part of the book to understand (she would like to read the whole book but just doesn't have the time). I loved the scene in the graveyard. Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort was pretty cool. I'm sure I'll think of more later, once I've been awake for a bit more than 30 minutes. |
I've said this to everyone who's asked me what I thought of the movie: As the HP books seem to get progressively longer, I always wondered if there'd be a point where the books got so long and detailed that a movie just wouldn't cut it. I think we've reached that point.
Not that I thought the movie was bad. In fact, if I hadn't read the books I probably would've enjoyed it a lot more. However, I left feeling sort of disappointed for most of the reasons you all have mentioned, and it kind of depresses me knowing that that was probably the best they could do. |
I totally understand how people would be upset because they did leave alot out, but JK Rowling's from the beginning said that she did not want to make the movies so long that not everyone would not want to sit through them. I know true HP fans like myself would, but I believe she was also consentrating on people that haven't even read the books and never plan to, like my husband.
In that aspect you can't take a book that is over 700 pages long and fit all that into a 2 1/2 hour movie. So to take out SPEW or Rita Skitters animagi (I do admit that I would have liked to see more of the Quiditch World Cup) I did not take offence to because it wasn't pertinent to the story that they were explaining, but to take out Harry's Paronus or the explination of the Mauraders map in POA is just plan absurd to me. They might as well not have even had the Mauraders Map or the Patronus spell for that matter if they weren't going to explain it (this is just a radical statment, I am saying it sarcastically). In the POA my husband, who has not read one HP book, was truly confused as to, "What the hell was that horse doing across the pond," as he states it or who made the Mauraders Map? In GOF the only thing he was confused with was who was the fourth person that had to be saved underwater (ie. Fleur's sister). The reason I liked this movie is because in my opinion they took all the important parts of the book and took the time to explain them...instead of POA where they took the important parts of the book and didn't explain them (instead they put in stupid scenes where Harry, Ron and his sleep mates are chewing gum that makes them roar like lions or talk like monkeys) when that would have only took 5-10 more extra minutes of the movie to explain. While the end was not happy and abrupt I think it just left the door open and explained to the people that have not read the book that Voldy's back and they have alot of work ahead of them. |
