Jimmy Carter's druggy son may run for Senate in NV

"President Carter's eldest son, Jack, is fueling hopes that Democrats can knock off first-termer Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) next year," reports the Hill. Among the young Carter's qualifications:

• He was discharged from the Navy in 1970 for drug use.

• He used to run a grain elevator business, which, according to columnst Jane Ann Morrison, "closed."

• He spent seven years trading commodities in the tax haven of Bermuda.

We're tempted to scoff, but we'll resist the urge. After all, underachieving sons of one-term presidents have been known to accomplish great things in American politics.

In all fairness, George Bush was the king of cocaine and he is president.

Why did I think that Amy Carter was an only child?

As Jimmy and Roselyn have said, they had two boys (I think), and then they had a 15-year fight. Then Amy was conceived and born.

So in their White House years, they had two grown sons, and a young Amy.

In 1970 they were sending kids to 20 years in the maximum security Ohio Pen for simple possession of marijuana. It probably didn't take much to get kicked out of the Navy.

FYI, Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter had four children: three sons (Jack, Chip, Jeff) and Amy. My mother's cousins lived next door to the Carters when they were both stationed in San Diego, and we got to know them a bit.

Funny, I wouldn't expect Jack to have been the son with a drug bust!

Some of the most successful and admired leaders in the world have been "substance abusers."

I call bullshit.

I've seen movie clip after movie clip of kids and hippies smoking weed in that decade. You would all dance, do mushrooms, and smoke weed in the rain. And then have hippy sex in tents.

Oh man, I totally forgot about Chip Carter. I guess that is why we have all those "I Love the 70's" shows.

Damn. I'm busted.

It was exactly like you described. Every day was like Woodstock. That's probably why I don't remember it all that well.

They say that if you remember the sixties (which blur into the early seventies), you probably didn't live through them.

Besides, we know that life is always exactly like the movies.

Actually, according to my brother, it was all a matter of where you were and who saw you. For each person you saw getting away with murder, there were two "normal" people, and another being busted.

I forgot about him, too.

But this whole discussion reminds me of a great humor/philosophy (well, OK, philosophy is a little shaky) book I read in high school called "My Brother Was An Only Child."

Hhahah. Good one.

Hoosier, I am absolutely dying to see what your tax returns looked like last year. For somone who talks so much right wing rhetoric, it ALMOST seems like you are trying too hard. We knwo who the conservatives (Rudy) are on here and we know who the liberals are (the one called TKE). No one seems to be as blatant about stuff as you are. Expresss who you are dude, but I'd love to see what you make a year. Cause to me, you just seem like a wannabe republican.

I bet you pull down like $42K a year and just talk smack to look affluent.

I dont mind disagreeing with someone, but thats not the issue here. Cant we ban people for just being choads?

-Cause its all about impressing peeps online.....

I dont know for sure. It just seems in some of your posts that you have a conservative slant. Not that there is anything wrong with that... lol.

I'd love to post a copy, but that would blow my cover and reveal my name. Will never happen.

For somone who talks so much right wing rhetoric, it ALMOST seems like you are trying too hard.

I try hard to post facts and opinions of people who have earned respect. Probably people who don't agree would dislike that.

No one seems to be as blatant about stuff as you are.

Yea, sometimes facts are blatantly correct and annoy non-believers. Nicknaming the mass media as the 'media wing of the Democratic party' is, of course, true and anoying to those who have CBS, NBC, ABC, NYTimes, Time mag., etc. as their major source of news and opinion.

Cause to me, you just seem like a wannabe republican.

My to-be mother-in-law brought an absentee ballot to the house when I turned 21, and watched to be sure I voted GOP. She doesn't watch anymore, but I haven't let her down. I did divorce her daughter after the kids were out of college.

I bet you pull down like $42K a year and just talk smack to look affluent.

I don't talk smack, and it doesn't make one look affluent or smart.

I dont mind disagreeing with someone, but thats not the issue here. Cant we ban people for just being choads?

Had to check the Urban Dictionary for that word. Among the 71 definitions is one I like:

"choad: The fine line between right and wrong"

-Cause its all about impressing peeps online.....

No, it's not. I just like to present news and opinions that some of the undergrads and young alumni (and even a few of the old farts) aren't likely to see. Hopefully it will at least make them know that the garbage they get daily from campus profs and the mass media (sometimes known as the MWODP) is one-sided and incomplete.

Best wishes to y'all. Thanks for asking. I'm retired, and I got plenty. My parents are both still alive, and they got plenty too. I'm still working my ass off, though.

If you say so, it must be true. Particularly since the topics for your threads are always so logical and to the point.

Earth to Hoosier -- is anybody out there?
