Hahaha... I know what you mean... I don't exactly want to freak out at my 7th graders, but I just want them to sit down and be quiet for more than 30 seconds. I have them right after their lunch - I think that might be part of the problem.

trojangal 10-24-2005 08:03 PM

I <3 you, honeychile,

Definitely needed after a long day!

UofISigKap 10-24-2005 08:10 PM

Ah...what a good note to come home to. I had zombies for the first half of the day and then chatterboxes. I planned for 10 hours over the weekend, and I still don't have everything ready for the entire week....and don't even get me started on how much grading I have to do!!

Have you tried SSR for about 15 minutes? You have to do it too(that's the catcher)...we do that at the HS where I teach and it really calms them down. We didn't do it my first year, and we've been doing it now for 3...it's awesome. =) And it doesn't matter if you're not an English teacher...with all the Reading across the curriculum stuff just have them take out a good book and start reading...I also have my kids bring in books to keep on my shelves for others, they get one extra credit point per book and I have the ability to say no to their book so I don't get stuff like BSC and goosebumps.

PM me with questions.:)

You think working with 7th graders is bad , try working with 2 yrs all day like I do. :) I certainly feel your pain

eta: I love your signature line.

Usually, that's when most students begin to wind down. At least some HSers do.

Last year all disciplines, including PE at our school required SSR. Right now, Post-Katrina, we are kind of on auto-pilot.

cntryZTA5 10-27-2005 08:34 PM

Thanks for posting the cartoon! Sometimes I feel like freaking out on them, especially my 6th period!! Although today I had their attention when they were working in 95 degree heat on my "assembly line."

mmcat 10-28-2005 12:53 AM

a coop teacher floats into my classroom every other day first thing. the permanent sub is kind enough he lets me stay and work. those kids are just terrible. 75 percent of the class was late and it went down from there.
very sad. thank god they don't have me.
