favorite happy meal toy
Ok all these 70 and 80s memory lane trips are to getting me :) ....it got me researching favorite toys of the past and one i have searched endlessly for i cannot find.. it was a McDonald Happy meal toy in the 70s.....i was in kindegarten or 1st grade it was 1974 and it was a plastic wrist band , looked like a watch, but you flip the lid and you put your coins in there.....i used it for school lunches when i was eating at the cafetria....... CANNOT find it even on ebay anywhere :(
anyhow.....what was your fav happy meal toy? |
*ANY of the Barbie ones.
*The stuffed holiday Muppets (Miss Piggy, Fozzie, or Kermit)- circa 1989. |
Actually, a recent toy...
Last year's Disney Madame Alexander dolls... My favorite McDondald's game was the 70's and 80's Olympics game. You scratched off a team and a medal; if the USA won that event, you got a prize. You would go to the store each week for the postings on a big cardboard cutout. Mr. Silver thinks this game was too variable for a major company to offer.... Good thread! Silver |
I always loved the Teenie Beanie Babies!! In high school I would buy all of these Happy Meals just to get them. Who knew years later I would marry someone who works for McDonalds and have Happy Meal Toys coming out of my ears. Including all those Teenie Beannie Babies!!
|
Love the thread!
My favorite was in 2003 for the 100 years of Walt Disney. One hundred characters were produced in colorful plastic "statues" standing on a base with the name of the character and the year of the film.
I've collected around 90 of them. (Thank ya eBay!) |

Stuffed muppets were good... Was mildly obsessed with the first batch of "Teenie Beanie Babies" when I was a freshman in h.s.
|
My favs were the teenie beanie babies :)
|
Definitely the Teenie Beanies, I spent a good deal of time trying to get a Teenie Beanie to match a regular-sized one that each of our children had. Thought I'd lose my mind until I was finally able to get a little goldfish for Baby Berry!
|
ohhhhhh, i liked the teanie beanies! stuffed muppits - good memory! those are seriously old school. what do they have out now? chicken little stuff - which looks like it's going to be super cute, btw :) as i've said many a-time before, i heart zach braff.
|
I'm liking the Madame Alexanders Mickey-D's is presently offering. So far I have the hopscotch girl, the soccer girl and the equestrienne girl.
I'm not kidding; I like Happy Meals as much as the next guy! :) |
McDonalds' (at least i think it was McD's) had Pound Puppies and Pound Kitty stuffed animals in the Happy meals one year. Also, I remember when around Halloween time, instead of your happy meal coming in a box, it would come in a plastic bucket that was decorated as either a ghost or pumpkin and you could use it to trick or treat with.
Happy meals were so much cooler in the 80s and early 90s! |
I remember the transformer thingys that looked like McDonald's food but turned into dinosaurs or robots or something. I loved them for some reason! I also loved the Mario 3 toys with the jumping turtles and the flipping Goomba.
|
I always liked the Kid's Meals at Burger King more because they always had the deals with Disney back in the day! :D

As for the Teenie Beanie Babies, I lucked out both times they had em because my cousin worked for McDonalds' at the time and she ended up buying both sets for me in full so I didn't have to keep on going back and buying and eating! I wonder how much they're all worth now...? |

Here is what you were looking for, I think...
"McDonald's thought the boxes would be the must-have item. The first Happy Meals came in boxes that -- when combined -- formed a circus train. The toys inside included a stencil, puzzle book, wrist wallet, top and erasers. They learned kids wanted the toys, not the boxes." That was June 1979. ETA: My favorite was the Halloween buckets that the meal came in. There was a green one that looked like Frankenstein's head, an orange pumpkin, and a glow-in-the-dark ghost. Also, this Happy Meal website said that McDonald's is the largest toy distributor in the world. |
I love their Halloween pails too. Definitely their teeny beenies and the Barbie toys!
Oh yeah, I also LOVED their Disney princess accessories that they offered last year (a tiara, a mirror, etc.). I wanted that magic wand so bad but never could get my hands on it. :( |
Oooh, the Halloween pails were great. So were the gardening things that came with real seeds, like the terrerium and gardening tools. I had my own little garden that summer :)

OOOHHH...I had forgotten about the Halloween pails. They were wonderful. Does anyone remember the Barbie snowglobe that was advertised but pulled for some reason? I waited weeks to get that toy! Also, I really loved the "Babe" movie toys. I wish they would have American Girl dolls/toys! Silver |
I have this collections of toys that were the McDonalds characters, but in disguise.
Like a happy meal that transforms into ronald mcdonald or fries that change into a character. I know I have those up in my attic, but I remember how much I loved playing with them as a kid. |
