Congratulations to the Chicago White Sox for giving the city of Chicago its first World Series Appearance in one helluva long time.

May the true battle now begin. Houston vs. Chicago, for the ultimate crown in all of Baseball.

I actually watched the last couple innings of the game last night, and never really cared whether the Astros or Cardinals won. :p But that being said, now that Houston is going to the World Series, I will hope that they win. Doesn't make too much of a difference to me (I will ALWAYS be a Ranger's fan) but it would be great to see a Texas team win.

I'm conflicted; it would be great to see the Sox bring home a long-awaited title, as the franchise has been through a great deal the past few decades. On the other hand, it would be great for Bagwell and Biggio to top off their Hall of Fame careers with World Series titles.

Guillen, Pierzynski, Jenks, Garcia . . .

There are tons more reasons to root for the Astros.

I totally agree with this statement!! I know alot of Cubs fans that will cheer for the Sox (including me), but I don't know of any Sox fan that cheered for the Cubs two years ago in the world series (including my husband)!!

Actually, although Podsednik didn't hit a single homer in the regular season, this was his second of the postseason . . . not that it makes it much better, or anything, just saying.

I would never have thought Lidge would give up two big home runs in the postseason, but I guess we've learned that anyone can be a goat (look at Mo Rivera).

As a Cubs fan, I'm supposed to hate the Astros. They got the wild card from us two years in a row.

Yay! Sox fans! Don't see too many around here. My first "real game" was a sox game. My dad is super satisfied with the team this year. I just regret missing out on tickets, but hey...I tried, just like he did in 1959!

Can you believe he paid $20 for two tickets to the world series. He had to talk me out of paying 900 for one ticket just for him in Houston. Well, I really wasn't going to pay for it, I thought it was worth charging. ;)

Oh, I knew that. With his numbers, though, I was hoping someone else would have been elected. That's just one of the pitfalls of leaving voting up to the fans, though. Sometimes you'll get someone who's not quite so deserving.

Guillen apologizes to Biggio for fan Behavior

Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen apologized after Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio's wife was slapped by a male fan in Chicago.

The incident happened Sunday night in the stands at US Cellular Field, where the White Sox beat Houston in Game 2 of the World Series.

Biggio said his wife, Patty, wasn't hurt. He said the fan slapped his wife then tried to run away -- before the player's brother-in-law ended up "putting him against the wall."

Astros manager Phil Garner said that the fan had been bothering her for a while -- pulling Patty Biggio's hair and jostling her.

Guillen issued a public apology on behalf of his organization.

Chicago police say no criminal complaint has been filed.

Biggio played down an altercation.

"It was one guy who acted like a 12-year-old, who slapped her upside the head," said Biggio. "I'm not going to sit here and hold all the Chicago fans accountable for this for one guy who was acting like an idiot."

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Monday he was going to personally apologize to Biggio on Tuesday.

"I know the security in Chicago is doing a great job and when something happens so quickly, you can't blame anybody," Guillen said. "And the guy that did it, he should be brought to Biggio and he's the one who can hopefully get him back.

"I told the police, 'Don't put him in jail, bring him to me in the dugout,"' Guillen said. "Hopefully, that won't happen again."

GREAT RULING, Commis. Domes don't belong in baseball...if that's the only way you can get a home-team advantage, get better fans and better architects.

MLB orders roof open for Game 3

HOUSTON (AP) -- Major League Baseball pulled the roof out from over the Houston Astros' heads.

Over the objections of the Astros, the commissioner's office ordered the roof open at Minute Maid Park for Game 3 of the World Series on Tuesday night and said all games in Houston this week are likely to be played outdoors.

"I don't think Major League Baseball should have the right to tell us about the roof," Astros outfielder Lance Berkman said. "They're trying to take the home-field advantage from us. I don't think that's right."

Jimmie Lee Solomon, executive vice president of baseball operations in the commissioner's office, made the announcement on the field about four hours before the scheduled first pitch. The sky was cloudless when Solomon spoke.

"We've studied weather, winds, we've studied humidity. There isn't a cloud within 800 miles of here," baseball commissioner Bud Selig said. "In Milwaukee, you don't get a day like this until July Fourth."

The gametime temperature was 61 degrees, and Selig said it would not get too cold for fans later in the evening. He cited baseball's decision to order the roof be opened during the 2001 World Series at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix.

"I need to get a new life, because I sat and watched The Weather Channel all day determining about low temperatures, high temperatures, medium temperatures," Selig said.

The Astros like playing with the roof closed because, among other things, it increases the noise. They were not thrilled with the decision.

"It's almost like a road game for us now," Astros first baseman Mike Lamb said. "We're not used to playing with it open."

It didn't seem to hurt them at the start. There was a high decibel level at the beginning when Lance Berkman's first-inning single put them ahead.

Selig and Solomon said the commissioner's office followed the Astros' regular-season guidelines, which they said call for the roof to be open when the temperature is under 80 degrees and there is no rain. Astros spokeswoman Lisa Ramsperger said there are no specific guidelines.

"I think it's a disregard to our fans, the comfort of our fans," Astros manager Phil Garner said.

Solomon said that the forecast is favorable for the rest of the week and that the roof is likely to be open for all games in Houston. The Astros played their first five postseason games this year with the roof closed. Solomon said the temperature was over 80 degrees for all except Game 3 of the first-round series against Atlanta.

"By the time we got here to look at the roof it was already there and we could not change it in time," he said.

During the regular season, the Astros were 36-17 at home when the roof was closed, 15-11 when it was rolled back and 2-0 in games that began indoors and finished in fresh air. It was open just twice after May -- for a pair of games against the Chicago Cubs during the final series of the regular season.

"This is part of our home-field advantage and for major league baseball to try and change that is either a) ridiculous or b) they're American League fans," Astros catcher Brad Ausmus said.

Selig had a different view.

"The only factor that should determine it is weather," he said. "We don't do things to give teams competitive advantages in anything."

White Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand cited his experiences in the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

"When it's packed, that place is loud. I'd doubt if it's louder than that," he said. "Close the damn thing, it doesn't matter to us. Everybody is making a big deal about the roof. I don't think anybody cares whether it's closed or open."

I'm kind of surprised Ozzie publicly apologized for the fan's behavior. I'll agree though, it was a classy move.

All I can say is, I've been a lifelong, diehard White Sox fan, growing up in an entire family of Cubs fans. This season has been amazing, but watching this game tonight, I think I'm going to have a heart attack. This is getting ridiculous! We're now going into the top of the 13th, and it's tied 5-5!!!

This game needs to end so I can go to bed...I'll regret this tomorrow when I'm at work.
