Miss Seventeen on MTV - GLOs

It premiers tonight and I believe there are members of NPHC organizations on there. How come none of the contestants are 17?

AXWhoah 10-17-2005 10:11 PM

Because it's for Seventeen Magazine, not Miss Seventeen as in the age.

duh. I just don't understand why they don't have more contestants who are teens or in HS since that is who the magazine is geared towards.

lyrica9 10-17-2005 10:36 PM

there's an NPC girl!!!

Savannah, is an ADPi from my chapter!

It's a lot harder to get girls who are under 18 to be on reality shows, since they need their parents' consent too, not just the girls. Parents tend to be less permissive of this kind of thing -- especially parents of girls who are highly focused on academic/extracurricular success.

Also, I have no idea when this show was filmed (maybe it was over the summer), but if it overlapped with the school year at all, the "living in New York City" thing would be difficult for anyone in high school.

Ok, now I'm so much less impressed by these girls. There were a few that I was thinking, "Wow, she's soo mature for only 17." Others I felt were right on par for a HS senior. Now that I realize these are grown azz women, I'm a bit let down.

33girl 10-18-2005 09:52 AM

Seventeen tries to appeal to college age women as well, but in a day & age where 12 year olds read Cosmo I don't know how they are doing.

Do you know which orgs they are members of?

I see there is a Univ. of Minnesota student. I'll be rooting for her!

TheEpitome1920 10-18-2005 02:40 PM

Leah is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. I'm not sure about the other girls.

Off topic.. but I remember it was my dad who got me a subsription to seventeen when I was in middle school, bc I was such a tomboy. Do you think he was trying to tell me something..

But I find it odd too that these girls would be in college.. ? With a name like seventeen its kind of hard to appeal to an older audience.

starang21 10-19-2005 12:49 PM

can someone post pics please?

Taualumna 10-19-2005 02:32 PM

Has this taken the place of Seventeen's cover model contest ? I remember that younger girls could take part in that. I think the required age in the 90s was between 13-21.

epchick 10-21-2005 12:21 PM

I remember that when i was younger I always thought that you could only read Seventeen magazine once you turned 17...lol.

But I guess now it seems u can read it however old u are...lol, it still seems kinda wierd, at least to me, for like a 20-29 year old to be reading 17 magazine, but whatever floats ur boat! lol.

PM_Mama00 10-21-2005 02:40 PM

I don't know if any others are in GLOs but my friend, who's mother owns and runs this pageant, told me that one of the girls mentioned she was Miss Cheerleader of America!

Phigirl04 10-21-2005 03:43 PM

Hmm, everyone I knew stopped reading Seventeen by the time they turned seventeen. Did they change who they geared the magazine toward, or is it still focused on high school students?

LOL

Good question and sugar and spice's answer makes sense. Before reading this thread, I thought the contestants on that show were in their teens. They seem to act like they're in their teens.

No. :)

Trust me, there aren't any "lookers" on that show.

The girls do look young and some of them act young. I agree with whomever said they are a bit disappointed in the show now that these are grown azz women.

I think she crossed the same time as my sister. Tenn. State and Vandy (where Leah goes) hadn't had lines in years so the alumane chapter in Nashville took both schools at the same time. I asked my sister yesterday and she'll come back with an answer soon.

SPersuasion 10-25-2005 11:25 PM

I had no idea they were "adults." I caught like ten minutes of the show last week and quickly turned the channel. Not interesting whatsoever and "The List" comedy. I still can't believe these are grown people, crazy.

a.e.B.O.T. 10-26-2005 12:02 AM

well young people look up to that age group thats why...

p.s.
Jill is a witch and Brianne needs some booty and a reality chip!

TheEpitome1920 10-26-2005 01:10 AM

Dang Leah's gone. :(

Wow, this has got to be one of the stupidest reality shows out there. And I love pretty much any reality type show but this is straight up terrible. And boring. I love how that Editor chick does everything over video. Doesn't care enough to do it all in person? Or maybe MTV isn't paying enough.

Hard to feel sorry for the most recent chick to be booted. While the bitchy girl needs to go, you can't run around saying you don't want a job and you just want to do the fun stuff. Duh.

I agree.

This is worse than that MTV show "Power Girls."

Hah! The Camera's....what about when the host was like "and remember...I'll be watching at all times". Ummm, hello. Reality TV here...someone should've taken that as a warning.

Stupid show. 'nuff said.

Thank you. I tried watching the show and I just couldn't. I really don't think MTV's paying Atoosa enough. I mean, invite the girls over for their first dinner and all you can serve these girls are mini-burgers and french fries?

I'll admit that I still read Seventeen even till my early 20s. A few years ago, they came to my campus and featured it in an issue. Me and some of the Alpha Gams managed to make it into a few shots here and there.

This show is definitely straight up boring. When the biggest drama issue happens because somebody forgot to turn off the digital and the battery died...? WTF is MTV thinking? The List revealing also annoys the crap outta me. The girls sit around with their mouths open like salivating dogs while they read the names being slooooowly written on the screen.

Sorority Life was wayyyy better than this piece of shit.

Unregistered- 11-08-2005 07:38 PM

I don't know how this stupid show manages to suck me in every Monday -- probably because there's nothing else to watch on Monday nights.

I LOL-ed the most at Ashley, the one from UT-Austin. For some reason I got the whole "I can't stand being around these white chicks and that's why I'm cussin' like a sailor" vibe. WTF? You don't show up at a job swearing left and right, calling the rest of the girls "those hoez". LOL at the chick who confessed that she's "never been called a whore in her life". I bet the people who gave Ashley that Youth Leadership award feel good about their decision right about now.

Savannah the ADPi's also gone. While I do feel that she was trapped by the photographer to take those pix while the rest of her team was packing up to go, she should have known better -- especially since big brother Atoosa's watching every move! Too bad it earned her a ticket to go home!

I don't think there are any Greeks left. 6 remain: Connie, Jess, Jen, Julie, Jill, and Sasha.
