My days of Sonic and braums while in college in the south .....ahhhh good times....good times ....hehehe They have sonic right near the park .....Disneyland that is. Two words ... ROAD TRIP

I agree that In-n-Out is good ... but, it is no Sonic or Braums. Did you ever eat the hamburgers at Braums? Oh my gosh!

Oh heck yeah with grilled onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMM! If we had more than 1 Sonic and had braums and cracker barrel here life would be good!

gogoaphi 10-10-2005 12:05 AM

Well ... Sonic and Braums aside, life here in the West is pretty darn good, don't you think? After all, you know what they... when it comes to Alpha Phi ... WEST IS BEST!!!! (not to start a west coast / east coast feud or anything!) ;)

Jill1228 10-10-2005 04:08 PM

I am from the East and love the West. I prefer to be further south on the West Coast

I remember Sonic from back East. I am looking at the site and didn't realize they had some in Las Vegas...I coulda had some Sonic and didn't know it :(

a CA in CA 10-10-2005 11:03 PM

mmmmm....I had In-N-Out for dinner. My husband cooked! :D

Jill1228 10-10-2005 11:10 PM

One of my other fave places :)

I'll probably get flamed for this. But I hate In-n-Out. Relax I kind of have good reason, I don't eat beef but I think the fries are awful. Never been to Sonic but we have them up in Northern California too, I think closest to me (Chico) is Sacramento. My roomates who are die hard In-n-Out fans think Sonic isn't as good. But these kinds of restaurants vary by region. :)

cutiepatootie 10-11-2005 10:14 PM

Ok this is realllllly freaky because i never created a thread called an ode to in n out and sonic.....

bruinaphi 10-12-2005 02:38 AM

You are right. I split the extension thread in two b/c the Sonic posts had taken over and yours was the first post I split out. Then it wouldn't let me go back and add the other two, so I left it as it was.
:-)

MissOh2Cute 10-12-2005 08:33 AM

We have Sonic here in VA....but I would WALK back to California for an IN 'N OUT BURGER!!!!!!

Sistermadly 10-12-2005 12:00 PM

Am I crazy or a freak because I don't eat at any of these places? I never ate at Sonic when I lived in Georgia, and even on road trips through Cali, I never pulled over to an In-N-Out burger. A Fatburger opened in Vancouver and my co-workers RAVE about it, but I just don't have any desire to go.

I guess Weight Watchers has fully and completely brainwashed me. :D

midwesterngirl 10-12-2005 01:35 PM

I'm not a big fast food person either. Mainly because for a few dollars more,I can go to a real sit down restaurant. However,if I do get a fast food burger it is usually Sonic and I love their strawberry limeades.

valkyrie 10-13-2005 01:35 PM

I've never seen an In and Out and I don't eat at Sonic or any of these other places -- they're not really appealing to a picky, food-snobby vegetarian.

lauralaylin 10-13-2005 02:13 PM

I must say this thread has been very interesting to me. I've never seen a Sonic, never even heard of In and Out, but on my drive to FL next week, I will look for both. Maybe I'll even skip one of my many Waffle House meals to try one if they are off 95.

Sistermadly 10-13-2005 02:25 PM

Now, Waffle House is something I can get behind! They have the best grits. Yum. :)

lauralaylin 10-13-2005 04:45 PM

I can't get used to grits. Probably because I only have them at Waffle House twice a year, but the consistancy is too weird for me. Of course, I now eat tofu all the time, so I'm sure if I ever move to the south (hopefully in the next two years), I'll get used to them. I'm totally in love with the hash browns though: scattered, smothered, covered, and diced. And the waffles with pecans too (although I always forget which was I'm supposed to pronounce pecans down there!).

Sistermadly 10-13-2005 07:16 PM

The thing to remember about Grits is that they're just an excuse to eat butter and salt. :D

Also, some people like to put sugar and milk in them (BLEAH!) but my favorite way to eat them is with bacon crumbles and some scrambled eggs with a little black pepper sprinkled on the top.

*drool*

Oh, and my family (from Georgia) all says "pe-CAWHN", but MisterMadly's family (from Saskatchewan, Canada) all say "pe-CAN". But I've known some people who say "PEE-can" or "PEE-cawhn". Who cares what the right way is - just enjoy some good (and not too gooey) pecan pie!

In 'N Out is only in California (did you know there's one in Redding now, very exciting for I-5 drivers), Arizona and Nevada.

My favorite place to eat in Redding (heck, along the I-5 corridor in Northern Cal) is the Black Bear Cafe. YUM!

Ok, that makes sense then. I've never been farther west than Chicago!

Just like grits are only in the south, and frankly that's where they should stay. How can anyone talk about In 'N Out and grits in the same thread? That's sacrilege.

Sistermadly 10-14-2005 04:59 PM

You've just never had good grits. ;)

midwesterngirl 10-14-2005 05:01 PM

I can't believe this thread has been viewed 2731 times. I never knew Sonic was so interesting.

bruinaphi 10-16-2005 03:25 AM

I think that's a false count based on the extension thread, which it started as a part of and took the count from when they were split.

Just a theory though.

midwesterngirl 10-16-2005 07:20 AM

I'm sure you're right. :) I was just giving them a hard time.

Are griits the same thing as cream of wheat?

Sistermadly 10-16-2005 12:16 PM

NOOOOOOOOOO! Cream of Wheat - BLECH! Grits are made from corn and have a more coarse texture than Cream of Cat Sick, I mean Cream of Wheat. ;)

If you've ever eaten polenta, you've eaten grits. Polenta is just grits that have cooled.

midwesterngirl 10-16-2005 12:32 PM

Didn't mean to offend! Didn't know you were so touchy about your grits.:p I'm an instant oatmeal kind of gal myself. (variety pack or cinnamon roll)

valkyrie 10-18-2005 01:35 AM

I love polenta. A lot. I've only had cheese grits -- the ones at Wishbone in Chicago are DIVINE.

I've never had cream of wheat, but I'm kind of afraid of it. However, I do love TOFU, which I'm sure will horrify everyone. ;)
