Sorority Girls that Smoke Cigs while wearing letters
trashy or not?
|
I think it's trashy...but then again I think smoking is trashy....
|
We weren't supposed to smoke in our letters. While I was an active, our exec went so far as to tell people not to smoke in their cars that had letters on them.:p
I'm not gonna pass judgement on people who smoke in general, but I suppose it's probably better not to do it while wearing letters. |
I see nothing wrong with it. As with drinking, if you think it's so wrong you shouldn't do it in letters or out.

Maybe up north where people are a little more trashy would it be acceptable but not in the South or in Texas. Ever notice how women up north smoke cigs ALL the time? I've always wondered if lipstick sales are higher in northern states from all the lipstick wasted on cig butts. |
I don't think overall trashiness is restricted to one part of the country.
|
We had to be off property and cover our letters if we smoked.
|
I think ALL smoking is trashy. This isn't really an issue for us because we only have one or 2 girls who smoke, and they agreed not to do so in letters on their own. We as a chapter, however could not force them. We discourage smoking in letters, but don't forbid it. Smoking IS prohibited on our property, unless you are on the back patio.
|
We had a problem in school with our house mom smoking. She would sit on the front porch of our house smoking, in our letters. We asked her not to do it in the letters or near the house.
She might have gotten offended, but she wasn't a very nice lady to begin with. |
Trashy- and we had it as a rule that we could not smoke in letters.

I think hypocrisy is trashy.
|
I wondered if houses discouraged it or not. Take ZTA @ UF for example; every time you walk by their house there are at least 4 of them smoking cigarettes in front. I don't know if its just because I'm only in that town during football games or if its a regular things for them to smoke in front of their house, but I just think its a little trashy.

Chicks in texas always have missing teeth, ever notice that? Some of them try to fool you by having fake teeth put in. First time I met a hot chick who had 2 fake teeth I freaked out when one of her teeth came out and she had a big hole there. I started screaming. |
I do think MOST houses would discourage members from smoking in their letters. But, I can't really comment on what the rules are at other schools. I just know what the norm was at mine.

Though, I did have an ex who had one fake tooth.... His got knocked out playing soccer or something in high school. |
smoking is trashy... and I am a smoker... and well, then I would never be allowed to wear my letters... although it would be a good tactic to help quit...
|
When i was going through rush I distinctly remember walking by one house on my way home and saw about 10 of the actives still in their rush outfits...smoking. I had dropped that house the same night for other reasons, but it just looked SO tacky that I was really glad I had already dropped them. I don't think there's ever really anything attractive about smoking...and it's certainly still not attractive when you're representing an entire group of people. I would have been pissed if I had ever seen someone smoking in my letters.
|
Tackiness is not something many of you have a right to speak on unless you're willing to finally admit you're speaking from experience.

We weren't allowed to smoke while wearing letters nor were we allowed to smoke in front of the house. We had a back patio on the first floor & a deck on the second floor of the house where sisters were allowed to smoke.
As for recruitment-you weren't allowed to smoke all day since we didn't want any of the girls smelling like smoke. When I smoked (I've since quit smoking regularly) it was torture on lunch breaks to look outside our back door & see girls from other sororities lighting up cigarettes on their porches while we couldn't smoke! |
I think smoking is disgusting, but I don't think that smoking while wearing letters is any worse than just smoking in general. I've seen lots of girls smoking in their letters, and it doesn't make me think less of them. Like 33girl said, if you think it's so bad, you shouldn't be doing it, in letters or not.

I didn't do it in my letters, and I can see how some people would be bothered by it. But truth is, there is someone out there who will be bothered by just about anything. Truth be told, I suppose I would rather not see someone smoking wearing my letters, but I don't think it makes TOO much of a difference. |

People around here don't particularly care about smoking--many do it, just as many don't
It's northern Virginia though--right between your "trashy" north and "classy" south |
