Jill1228 10-03-2005 09:42 PM

Pack me in your luggage please :)
Where are ya staying?

Is this your first Vegas trip?

AlphaSigOU 10-03-2005 11:04 PM

About a month before I head to Sin City Veteran's Day weekend... gonna go see the Nellis AFB air show.

sigmadiva 10-03-2005 11:49 PM

I've been to Vegas and if you want fun and excitement stay on 'The Strip', otherwise Vegas is pretty much like any other town.

AOX81 10-08-2005 03:34 PM

19 days until I go to Vegas. I believe we are staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites...definitely a step up from the Tropicana, lol.

Unregistered- 10-08-2005 05:21 PM

Wow, you're out of a job and yet you can still afford to go to Vegas?

Because, see..I'm unemployed too -- and I really wanted to go to Disneyland with squirrely girl and greeklawgirl this week, but I knew that was out of the question, being that I'm unemployed and looking for a job and all.

Buttonz 10-08-2005 05:37 PM

I wanted to go to Vegas in Dec for my 21st birthday, but I couldn't find two other people to go and it was to expensive just for two of us :(

tinydancer 10-08-2005 05:58 PM

I probably won't get back to Vegas until summer.:(

UKTriDelt 10-08-2005 06:08 PM

I looove Vegas. I went there this past Spring Break and stayed at the Bellagio and had an absolute blast! I might go back again this year, but stay at the new Wynn hotel. From what I've heard it's amazing. You'll love the shopping in Vegas!

My Vegas trip was paid for months ago. Plus I still have one more check coming from work. :)

AChiOAlumna 10-10-2005 12:56 PM

We're also going to Vegas for Thanksgiving weekend. We've got tickets to see "Avenue Q" at the Wynn and have reservations for the Golden Nugget in Downtown Vegas...

Can't wait!!!

BetteDavisEyes 10-10-2005 01:50 PM

I'm going to Vegas this Friday & coming home Sunday. Staying at Excaliber & pissed b/c I wanted to see Thunder From Down Under but apparenly, they're not playing this weekend. WTH???

Tip from a former Vegas resident... always check the show schedule online or in many of the freebie entertainment magazines... if the schedule says 'dark [insert day]' it means it's their day off. Many shows also go dark between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thanks! I just checked the website & there are tickets now available but for the 10:30 pm shows. It's weird b/c when I first booked the trip, there were no shows & now there are. Pretty cool.

ms_gwyn 10-10-2005 03:26 PM

I'm going to vegas at the beginning of the month....an annual trip for me and my bookclub girls....

this is the first time I was able to afford it....I haven't been to vegas in ages and I am looking forward to it...I think we are staying at the Venetian Hotel

BetteDavisEyes 10-10-2005 03:43 PM

The last time I went to Vegas was 11 years ago. Now that I'm over 21 *hem hem* I'll finally get to enjoy it for what it's worth instead of being a surly teenager pissed b/c I can't do anything fun.

When the hotel (Wynn) first opened, it did not receive raving reviews and was called overrated. Just to let you know. I personally have not been there, even though I live here because I have never been a fan of Steve Wynn and really have no interest in seeing the place. You are right we do have some excellent shopping.

Jill1228 10-10-2005 08:43 PM

We checked out the Wynn when we were there in August. Mr. 1228 wasn't too impressed with it. I thought it was okay. I would stay there if I got one hell of a deal. The kid liked the Maserati dealer (he is 15 and a car fanatic)

On the other hand, I love the Venentian...gywn ya will love it

I gotta agree with sueali... Wynn's hotels lately exude an in-your-face opulence... if you ain't got the $ and the class to play, you're not welcome there. Locals not welcome, unless you pack a wad of cash. I do miss the DI (Desert Inn, where the Wynn stands now), though...

At least my brother finally got the 'power of the pen' - he got promoted to full-time floorman at the Palace Station. He's looking to transfer to Red Rock when it opens. (Fifteen years in the same joint... it's time to move! :D)

So I guess back to the Bellagio? It was pretty nice, but I'd like to see some other hotels... any suggestions?

How's this for a deal? Twelve hours from now my flight will be half over as I fly to Vegas.

Where am I staying? WYNN

How much am I paying for my room? NOTHING

I signed up for their Red card (slot club) when I was there last month. Played less than $20 and they gave me two complimentary nights! :D No sales pitch even!

AChiOAlumna 10-11-2005 11:13 PM

Triple schweeeeet! :D It's usually also the time when the convention season starts to taper off (ever since COMDEX kicked the bucket) before the holiday season.

But then, never turn down an offer for a free room! :D

Jill1228 10-12-2005 12:25 AM

Oh hell yeah! SOLD! Free is almost always good.
Except Circus Circus and Boardwalk...no way in hell!

I knew you'd understand. I agree with you whole heartedly I miss the DI. That's awesome for your brother. My step-dad worked for the stations for years. He is now a pit boss at the excalibur.

What do you think of the New Red rock station. I'm still not sure how it is going to affect red rock in general. P.S I'm actually getting married out at red rock (well spring mountain ranch) on the 29th of this month.

Dunno yet... my brother's put in for a transfer there; at least he goes there with his seniority intact, since they're part of the Station Casinos family. I'll prolly drive out that neck o' the woods when I go there Vet's Day weekend.

I wouldn't be surprised if my brother knows your stepdad or worked with him... :D

Virtual Violet 10-12-2005 05:51 PM

Just got back at the end of September.

A few notables.

I do not like staying on the Las Vegas Hilton/Sahara/Stratosphere end of the strip.

There is more action (ie. more hotels) between the MGM/NY NY side.

Loved the Mirage buffet...try to go during late breakfast/early lunch (11:00 a.m.) to catch the changeover food (cooked to order pasta bar.....YUMMMY:) )

Went to OPM at Ceasar's Forum Shops. The club plays hip hop and remixes. I enjoyed it. Ate at the Voodoo Cafe and Lounge at the Rio. Its on the 51st Floor. The food was pricey, but the decor was cool, plus there is a view of LV and an outdoor patio. 5th

I think they are opening a Planet Hollywood Hotel near the strip in 2006, plus Mariott and Hilton are building hi-rise time shares within walking distance from the strip.

All in all, Vegas is a perennial (sp?) favorite of mine. I could go every 6 months.:D

Dayam! I don't even want to admit how much my room rate was there over Labor Day weekend. It was cool and retro, with nifty touches like flat screen t.v's in the bathrooms. I was impressed, but not as awed as I'd expected to be. The Venetian is still my favorite. (Better spa and fitness center, nicer pool layout, great shopping, and big, big rooms.)

The breakfast buffet at Wynn was absolutely amazing, though!

Kimmie1913 10-13-2005 03:28 PM

Over the summer we went to Vegas and stayed at the Wynn and THEHotel at Mandalay Bay. I liked the Wynn, got excellent service, enjoyed the food and bars and the basic room is very spacious for a hotel room. But we LOVED THEHotel. It is the all suite side of the Mandalay Bay, is more low key because the casino is not in that building and was perfect for our couples trip to hangout have fun and relax some. It is at the end of the strip but that did not bother us at all. I did shop around and got good prices at both.

I am going to Vegas tomorrow!!!! This will be my 6th (I think) trip since turning 21 (I will be 23 in december) and I can't get enough.

About Thunder....last time I went for a girlfriends 21st bday we went to the show, and yes a bit cheesy but who cares the guys are flippin HOT, although we got invited to hang out with them later on and while I doubt they are gay they are definatley only into themselves and the slutty girls that fawn all over them. Kinda sleazy, but hey its entertaining and man I could listen to them talk ALL night.

Everyone should visit Vegas for New Years, its a surreal experience.

I am back from Vegas & it was fun & even better, I won $300.00! I won it on the Wheel Of Fortune slot machine. It only cost me $20 to play & I ended up winning. :)

On a bad note, there was some drunk ass redneck moron that started threatening my sister as we were walking through the casino to go to breakfast. This guy was stumbling around, bumped into me twice and when my sister called him on it, he started screaming obscenities & telling my sister that he was going to punch her teeth out. What a f****ing moron. He had a beer in his hand at 9:30 am & smelled of stale booze. Nasty.

That's Las Vegas for you... it's a 24-hour town where there are no restrictions on the sale of alcohol, if you are of age. Hopefully casino security took care of it and eighty-sixed 'em outta the place.

They did. Security kicked him out b/c he was harassing a lot of other people. You're not kidding about the alcohol thing. This was my first time in Vegas after 11 years. I did not know that you could walk around the streets holding your booze. :p I felt like such a loser pointing that out & having my sister laugh at me & tell me that it is perfectly legal to do that there.

My father in law cleared about $500 on WOF - I won around $180 off it.

Of course, my favorite activity was Circus/Circus 3/6 Hold 'em tables - won over $300 in two hours. Would have done even more, but had to leave to get our kids back to the condo we rented - kids in Vegas do have it tough, though they enjoyed the Circus shows and shopping, but when mom or dad want to do the "real" Vegas stuff, they can't do it together, because someone has to stay with the kids.

Last time we were out there we dropped $1.00 in a WOF machine at 5am just to get a free drink and made $80.00. :) When I was at Soaring Eagle Casino in Michigan with my mom I watched her drop her last $1.00 in the WOF machine and she won $100.00. Gotta love that game.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE!!!!! :D

And the laundromat, convenience store, bars... they actually make more money for the establishment than their intended use!
They haven't found a way to put 'em in the bathroom stalls... you'll never get 'em outta there!

Only place in Nevada where there are no casinos... Boulder City. (Technically, there are, but they are outside the city limits.)
