Baseball Playoff Predictions

What are your predictions for the playoffs?

Red Sox over White Sox in five
Yankees over Angels in four
Cardinals over Padres in three
Astros over Braves in four

Yankees over Red Sox in seven
Cardinals over Astros in six

Cardinals over Yankees in six

I would like to see the white sox win it but their hitters have been known to go cold over long periods.

Yankees over Red Sox in 7
Padres over Astros in 6

Yankees over Padres in 5 (in a semi-repeat of the last time Padres were in the World Series)

**Padres may have the worst record for a playoff team ever, but they have been playing some pretty strong ball these last few weeks of the season

Oops! Fixed. Thanks for calling that to my attention.

valkyrie 10-03-2005 06:06 PM

The only thing I'll predict so far is White Sox over Red Sox in 4.

Kevlar281 10-03-2005 06:13 PM

Interesting Fact...

The Astros are the second team to rebound from a 15 games under .500 record to make playoffs. The last team to do it was back in 1915.

74-43 since their 15-30 start is pretty amazing. More so is their road record since starting 2-20 on the road.

Re: Baseball Playoff Predictions

Astros over Braves in 4

Yankees over Red Sox in 7
Astros over Cardinals in 6

Astros over Yankees in 7; Clemens wins game 7 and announces his retirement.

BigCityStripper 10-03-2005 06:30 PM

You people need to quit picking the Astros to get so far, its making me nervous. I can see them beating the Braves, but I dont' think they have the offense to beat the Cards. (I hope I'm wrong) And whoever posted that the Padres will win the series against St. Louis (1 win would be the most optimistic I'd go with) must not either understand the sport of baseball or is on enough drugs to OD Mick Jagger.

Red Sox over White Sox in 5
Yanks over Angels in 4
Cards over Padres in 3
Astros over Braves in 5

Yanks do the world a favor and eliminate the Red Sox in 6
Cards over Astros in 7.

Yanks win Game 6 in the Bronx to hoist banner #27

BobbyTheDon 10-03-2005 06:48 PM

Red over White

Gods team over the Empire

Gods team over Red (although they will be pink after a long series with White)

Red birds over Spanish speaking peoples version of Gods team

Astros over Braves

Astros over Red birds

Gods team over Astros

well, that is how I hope it turns out atleast. I've found that I am too much of a homer to make any realistic predictions

ETA: OH SCREW IT.

WHITE OVER RED. I hate the Red Sox. DIE!

No, I understand the sport of baseball just fine, thanks :)

Reasons why I still say the Padres can beat the Cardinals:
1.) We won 3 out of 4 IN St. Louis this year (yes we lost 2 or 3 in SD, but that was also the month we went 8-18 :p)
2.) We have Woody Williams on the team, who has big game pitching experience (although I don't know why Bochy has not put him in the first three games of the rotation)
3.) We have Jake Peavy & Khalil Greene - enough said ;) :D

While this team doesn't have much in the way of playoff experience together, they've persevered through the "weak" NL West with a number of injuries to key players throughout the entire season (one of the Opening Day starters was out for two months BEGINNING opening day), managed to play over .700 baseball in the month of May (with those injuries), and beat contending teams (including the Nationals, Braves, and Houston) during the course of the entire season.

So they didn't go 95-67, or even 90-72 for that matter...they're still in the playoffs, like it or not, and everyone starts off with an even record. All San Diego has to do is win three games - and they've already shown they can go into St. Louis and win there.

[/end soapbox] :)

BobbyTheDon 10-04-2005 12:58 AM

Don't worry PolarPi. I'm pulling for the Fathers too. SoCal you know what I mean?

It would be a major upset but it's not impossible. Just jack up Peavy and Eatman on balco and it will be all good. Get the game to grandpappy Hoffman and hope Seany boy can kick ass the way he did back in his little league days when he was a fat tub of lard.

valkyrie 10-04-2005 01:10 AM

JackMeioph (4:08:06 PM): i hope godzilla steps on boston so i don't have to hear about them ever again

Bobby, I just noticed your signature. It makes me happy. I hope that someone in Jersey, like, trips godzilla after he steps on Boston, causing him to fall on New York City and he'd be so surprised he'd fart at the same time, so anybody not killed by the vast, crushing weight of his lizardy body would die of the fumes.

And, um, oh yeah, go WHITE SOX!!

goldendelta 10-04-2005 08:54 AM

Angels over the Yankees in 3 (Oh please please please)

After that I don't care what happens but I wouldn't mind if the Red Sox won again.

BetteDavisEyes 10-04-2005 10:31 AM

I was just reminded of the year that the Angels won the World Series. I ended up winning a contest held by a sports radio station. My prize was the chance to party with the Angels & meet them when they arrived home after beating the Giants. I did not get to go & meet them b/c I didn't have a cell phone at the time & my mom and sister did not call me at work to give me the message. They told me later that same night when I was in pj's watching the news. It was already too late. I was supremely pissed at them for days.

Nah, actually I think the Pads have a VERY good chance - I just couldn't man up and commit to it on paper.

Peavy gets to throw twice - and because of the scheduling quirks, he'll throw games 1 and 4 on full rest. He's considerably better than any pitcher the Cardinals throw out there - including the decaying corpse of Chris Carpenter, who has looked positively awful in his last few starts. He's way over his average innings and usage pattern - the tank is empty.

The Padres have a MUCH better bullpen, which can help offset the Cardinals' biggest strength - top-to-bottom depth. Also, depth is considerably less important in the playoffs than in the regular season - your starters (offensive) make most of the difference.

The Cardinals are a team based upon two incredible players (Edmonds and Pujols), and a bunch of role players - Eckstein, Grudz, even Larry Walker? Not impressive at the plate, and not highly rated in terms of VORP or other statistical measures.

The Padres, meanwhile, counter with production from nearly every position - and their regular season was marred by a stretch in which they missed key position players (especially Greene and Hernandez, statistically two of their top players).

The Pads most certainly could pull this series out.

BobbyTheDon 10-04-2005 02:37 PM

Peavy is pitchin a hell of a game!

Man - if only Ramon hadn't swung at that last pitch, the Pads could've still been playing...:) ;)

We may be down one, but we're not out yet!

Nah, just a continuation of Clement's horrid second half. The Red Sox aren't going down that easily.

True, I hope Boston makes it to face the Yankees in the ALCS. Wells is playing hurt, Schilling is still recovering, and with Wakefield it just depends on how his knuckleball is that day. All these guys have plenty of playoff experence so hopefully they can kick it up a notch. If there is a game 5 with Clement pitching Boston is doomed.

Wow

I'm stunned speechless.

I wonder who'll pitch game 3 (since I had heard Eaton was going to be game 3 pitcher, but this article seems to think he'd be the pitcher for game 4...maybe Woody? :))

I'm still not counting my boys out yet, but damn. :(

As soon as I found out he was pitching yesterday, I knew it wouldn't be pretty. I'm hoping Wells has a good night tonight. Although I'll possibly be too drunk to notice.

Yes. Did it show me rubbing my nipples with my finger in my mouth?

PS. I hate you. I hate you more than a thousand suns. And don't you ever forget that. And if you somehow believe that I may possibly like you, just remember that you are wrong and that I hate you even worse than Otter hates you. Take that you overgrown hobbit with harrier feet than a sasquatch related to Kitso.

tinydancer 10-05-2005 02:59 PM

Well, not to get away from that charming conversation, but....
My Phillies almost made it, so I guess I'll just go on over to the Astros now. Really scientific reason.

honeychile 10-05-2005 03:04 PM

My predictions? That if the former mr. honeychile's beloved White Sox don't go all the way, he will get so angry that he will completely lose it, and I'll laugh so hard that I'll be committed to Hotel Silly.

Have I mentioned that I really hate baseball anymore?
