Soror Underwood

Congratulations to Soror Sheryl Underwood for winning the BET Platinum Comedy Award!!!!

She gave an awesome thank you speech that nearly had me in tears. When she thanked sorors for supporting her I ran around my living room yelling Z-Phhhhiiiii. I know my neighbors were like what the...

I just want to say a lot of celebrities have Greek affiliation but NONE represent like soror Sheryl.

Oh and now that she got her a new car maybe she won't be canceling anymore shows here. :D

ZZZZZZZZ-PPHIIIIII SSSOOOO SWWEEEETTT

Gyrl7 09-28-2005 04:48 PM

If you ask me she pretty much made the show last night. That woman is so funny, she is my favorite female comedy person.

She was entertaining and humble. If that's possible.

She's also the host of the new season of "Comic View."

I look forward to tuning in to see her and what handbag she's rocking that day. :D

DC_Zeta1920 10-07-2005 08:14 AM

I finally watched it last night and I had to ZZZ-PHIII the tv screen.

She represented very well! :)

Does it ever bother you when she does a really foul-mouthed routine, then shout y'all out?

My Soror has a business...its called stand up-comedy. In her line of business, there are all types of routines that move audiences. She is paid for her work as an entertainer . Her particular routine is not PG. Is it my brand of humor? No. But do I respect her as an entertainer who has gained an enormous amount of respect for the thought provoking commentary that she weaves into her adult routine? Yes, absolutely.

Are you embarrassed by your Sorors who use foul-mouthed language just because they are foul-mouthed women and then in the next breath shout you out?

You see there is a difference ;).

Yes, I do get embarassed when a soror does such things. She is usually taken aside and given a sisterly talk, too.

I understand that she is an entertainer and gets paid for her humor. I enjoy some of her routines. (It's her politics I can't get with, but that's another story.) A group of us were discussing this once, because one of your sorors was talking about being a finer woman, while wearing letters and representing herself as a Zeta. And there's nothing wrong with that. I think we should all represent with class and be ladylike when repping our orgs. One of the guys asked her how was Sheryl Underwood representing finer womanhood, when she does a vulgar routine, then throws up your sign. I found the conversation interesting, but refrained from making too many comments. BTW, this was before I was a Delta.

I see. But again you missed my point. And as sister Greek it would best serve you to reserve comment further at this junction. Your question/comment does not appear to serve to gain a greater understanding of who Ms. Underwood is...but more for you to pass judgement on who you think she is and what you think she does not represent. It's pretty obvious, you don't know Ms. Underwood. Since you are not a Finer Woman of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. I truly don't understand why this would be of any concern to you in the first place. But I digress.

THIS thread is a POSITIVE SHOUT OUT to my Soror Sheryl Underwood...not one for you or anyone else for that matter, to personally question her representation of my Sorority's concept of Finer Womanhood.

If you are not here to say something positive and/or related to the topic of the thread...do the grown up thing...K.I.M. (keep it moving... for the less web savvy)

Thank you.

I am not questioning her representation of your sorority. I questioned how you felt about it. I am not passing judgment on her. If that's what you got out of it, then just wow.

As far as what would "best serve" me, I am free to ask what I wish. If you choose not to answer, then fine.

As mentioned before, I reserved my comments during my real life discussion. And I also reserved my comments here, because what she does has no reflection on me, other than her being a Black woman. THAT'S where her personal politics come into play, and if you'll re-read, I also reserved my comments on that, as well.

At any rate, I see that her conduct is a sore spot with you, and I will bow out gracefully.

First of all, I don't know why you here again on this topic. Separating business from the person was my initial point. I understand it went over your head. It happens. I have seen MY Soror Sheryl Underwood in both settings. It's not the same...she is not the same. I feel no need to defend her. SHE is a FINER WOMAN.

And certainly, you have to know that's definitely NOT for you to define. Your instincts were right the FIRST TIME in reserving your comments in real life...life OFF the internet...don't let internet courage "e-courage" continue to allow you to post statements you knew were WRONG to make in public the first time.

Be a good Greek and KEEP IT MOVING ...That is the graceful thing to do. You are not adding to the topic at hand.

Now, if anyone else would like to add to the topic which is a "Shout out to My Soror Sheryl Underwood" please free to continue posting.

Thank you!

Obviously she has not met Soror Underwood....Sheryl always states that what she does is her job. That is what everyone needs to remember.

I was on the topic again, because I felt like it.

I understand the seperation. It is she who muddles the seperation, when she throws up the sign and gives her shout-outs. I just thank God it's your sign and call that she is connecting to all that vulgarity and not mine. (Read her interview in The Diving Nine, and see what she wanted first. I'm just glad that my sorors weren't having it.)

E-courage does not play a part in my life, so try again.

*WOW* @ folks trying to take it there off of a question.

Actually I have met her a few times, hence my stating that I can't get with her politics.

Intense1920 10-11-2005 12:21 PM

ANYWAY! Back on topic. Congrats Soror Underwood.

Finer Woman10-A-91 10-11-2005 01:24 PM

For the love of God, GO AWAY! You are really are now in the pest zone. Nobody cares about your underlying reasons for posting. Your digs are pretty obnoxious and certainly baseless. Your intentions were not honorable.

We know you don't know Ms. Underwood. Show some respect for your fellow Greeks. This is not about you. You don't see any of your Sorors on the Zeta board being so rude. It's not a good look. Where is LG when you need her...tap this one PLEASE.

Sorors, I apologize for giving the Quack any attention...but you know that whole e-courage thing just grates my nerves...and I don't understand how any self respecting Greek could be so obviously out of order.

Now let us get back to shouting out our lovely Soror Sheryl Underwood! For those who were at the 2000 boule, do you remember that fly fur she donated to one of the silent auctions...got to love her sisterly love ;)

CrimsonTide4 10-11-2005 01:45 PM

I read the thread yesterday several times and I did not see where my Soror Boom Quack came on here disrespecting Zeta, this forum, or Sheryl Underwood. I saw it as natural curiosity in terms of Sheryl Underwood being a very vocal person about her membership in Zeta Phi Beta as well as how members of ZPB viewed her doing her job as a comedian with some of the jokes that Sheryl tells.

When she asked, it was not, IMO, an attempt to cast Zeta or Sheryl Underwood in a negative light. Again, I saw it as just I wonder how you all feel.

People ask me all the time how do I feel about my Soror Kym Whitley in terms of the parts she had played in the past.

I view Kym and other Sorors who don't always portray themselves in the best light as still a member of DST. Not all of my Sorors are perfect. We all have flaws. Just like we all have some crazy, or not so positive family members. In Delta, we have some Sorors who are not necessarily ALWAYS positive or best represent Delta with their words and deeds, but they are still my Sorors.

I did not see my Soror Boom Quack as exhibiting e-courage. She simply asked a question. I saw your comments, Finer Woman 10-A-91 as harsh and mean spirited to her inquiries that were not mean spirited at all.

So no, I will not be pulling my Soror's coattails about "her conduct." She was curious and asked a question. You did not like her question. Fine, but your response, IMO, painted you in an unflattering manner. Not Zeta Phi Beta, but you.

ladylike 10-11-2005 02:08 PM

Anyone catch Sheryl as the host of Comic View? She brings her own flavor to the show. The "episode" with Cat Williams was hilarious!:)

Listen, CT4 its all fine and good that you are defending your Soror...but you have been here long enough to know YOU COME IN ROOM>>>YOU STICK TO THE TOPIC! Plain and simple. The question was answered the FIRST time I posted....and nicely at that.

An unflattering manner, you think I am painted? I care not about your assessment based on my responses. I care more about the level of integrity in which my Sorority sisters are afforded and DESERVE. If I wanted to just be disrespectful, please believe me I could have brought out some nasty remarks directed at your Sorors. But WHY? What purpose would it really serve? You brought up Kym Whitley I don't know who she is...nor do I care. She is NOT the topic of THIS thread.

Some topics just do not warrant being entertained on the net or OFF the net. Keep on believing that the question was out of simple curiosity. Your Soror stated she did not entertain the discussion in a real life situation...SO WHY BRING IT HERE???? I am NOT falling for the okie doke on this. E-Courage...OH YEAH...its in there!

If you or anyone else has ANYTHING THAT IS OFF TOPIC TO SAY to me about anything else ...SEND ME A PM...

Now everyone...BACK TO THE TOPIC. Thank you!

I refrained from commenting in real life, because the person who brought up the topic was bringing it up in a mean-spirited fashion, and I wanted no parts of that. I also wasn't Greek at the time, which I mentioned. When I was a non-Greek, I refrained from making ANY comments about Greekdom.

Unless you are in MY head, kill the e-courage comments. I am courageous, period. Anonymity on the internet does not bolster my already courageous spirit.

Please...just stop. This is silly. I know it's a hard pill to swallow, but you being Greek does not give you a pass card on being out of order. I was never out of order. You are just out of your mind, if you think that you can read mine.

Your E-INSECURITY is screaming LOUD and clear.

Intense1920 10-11-2005 03:08 PM

Since offense was taken at the way my Soror and Spec said what she said I will make a comment. I ask that this conversation be taken off of this thread. If it REALLY must be discussed then take it to another thread or PM. The thread is for congratulations and that is the path that I would hope it would stay on. Ladies of DST just as I know you have a certain "feel" that you want over at the BLVD respect that we too want a certain "feel" here. With that I AGAIN ask that this subject be dropped.

Finer Woman10-A-91 10-11-2005 03:20 PM

Back to how fly Sheryl Underwood is

Anyone remember when Sheryl was running for Grad @ Large...lol. Did she not have the flyest hats and suits you ever did see??? Sororz, she really showed out in New Orleans. I had so much fun there.

drcassandraa 10-11-2005 04:07 PM

i think what i loved most about Soror Underwood's acceptance/thank you speech was when she gave a big thank you to the fact that she is still allowed to do what she does how she does it and represent for Zeta... i was a big fan of Soror Underwood's before I became a Zeta or even knew she was a Zeta!

sometimes jokes are just funnier with a few cuss words thrown in for emphasis LOL LOL LOL

AUDACITY1920 10-11-2005 04:33 PM

Ladies,

I think that we all should just drop this. I believe Quack stated her opinon and she said that she did not mean for her statement to be disrespectful and that should be the end of it. Whether or not you believe her that is up to you. So to argue back and forth about what she meant is useless. We all know when writing e-mails (replies) that some times the writer's intentions might not come out the way it was meant to be when someone reads the email (reply)

As a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. I know and see what Underwood does for the Sorority on many levels. She is a finerwoman.

So lets keep this positive! Congrats to Soror Underwood once again.. I know that she has done well with Comci View.

Z-Phiii..!!!!!

Greek love to all NPHC org.

Kudos to Sheryl!!!

I have much respect for Sheryl Underwood. She is a funny comedienne and really embodies the spirit of what a sorority woman should be like.

I have checked out your org's website and she truly works for her sorority. Young women should really take a page from her book!

Well done!!!!

We have moved on from that part of the discussion. Like I said in my previous post, if you would like to discuss anything outside of the topic "Shout out to Sheryl Underwood" PM ME...thanks. Otherwise, let's K.I.M.

BlueBeauty1920 01-05-2006 09:44 PM

First off, PROPS to Finerwoman. I see you soror, telling it like it T-I-Z.

It always tickles me when people outside of Z-Phi-B attempt to define what finer womanhood is, when it is for Zetas to possess and understand what exactly being a 'finer woman' is... not for ANYONE else to.

Second, PROPS to Soror Underwood. She puts in WORK for our sorority, and has truly earned the right to give a shout out for Zeta whenever she pleases.

nonchalant 02-02-2006 02:37 AM

Congrats to Sheryl Underwood on her award. She is a great comedian. She makes my stomach and head hurt from laughing at her comedy acts. She does represent Zeta to the fullest. Based on what's been said in previous post, she also represents a Zeta woman properly. We as non-Zetas can only speculate on what finer womanhood is by standard definition. Only Zetas know their true meaning behind the phrase.
