New Colonies or Re-establishments?

Has anyone heard if AXiD is going to open at a new school or re-establish? I've seen that other GLO's are I'm just wondering about us.

New Colony at Monmouth University (NJ)

From the website:

10/27/2005 - Alpha Xi Delta to Colonize at Monmouth University

Alpha Xi Delta is thrilled to accept the invitation to colonize at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Princeton Review named Monmouth one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education, in its 2006 The Best 361 Colleges Guide. Alpha Xi Delta will join the Monmouth Panhellenic Council along with five other NPC sororities. Colonization for the Monmouth colony will begin mid November 2005. If you desire more information about our colonization efforts or how you can assist with the colony please contact Gretchen Knight, Extension/Marketing Manager at gknight@alphaxidelta.org.

ETA: According to their Greek Life webpage, the current NPC groups are AST, DFE, FSS, TFA and ZTA.

MonmouthSIG 11-01-2005 01:27 PM

I'm from there :)

Hey everyone!

I've been watching the posts for awhile, but I just signed up today. I'm one of the leaders of the interest group at Monmouth. We're SO excited to have Alpha Xi Delta coming to campus!!! Has anyone here started an AZD colony that may like to give us some pointers? We have interviews and stuff coming up and are getting pretty nervous because we've worked so hard to have this happen!!!! Thanks :)

flirt5721 11-01-2005 10:10 PM

I haven't started a colony or anything but the ladies that make the best AXiDs are ladies that are just themselves and don't try to be something that they are not. So my suggestion is just be yourself. Have fun and hopeful you will become a sister.

AXiDTrish 11-02-2005 12:45 AM

Calling Amanda!

I bet you have some good encouraging advice!!!

AZ-AlphaXi 04-04-2006 12:51 PM

Here's the link to the announcement on the WPI Panhellenic web page for the newest Alpha Xi Delta colony

http://users.wpi.edu/~panhel/

Yeah for the newest colony of Alpha Xi Delta!!!!

MonmouthSIG 04-04-2006 01:59 PM

Aww yay for them!!! Kinda sad that we're not gonna be the babies anymore! haha

flirt5721 04-04-2006 10:07 PM

Yeah we get another chapter:D

AZ-AlphaXi 04-06-2006 12:55 PM

And here's the fraternity's official announcement about the WPI colonization - posted on www.alphaxidelta.org

4/5/2006 - Alpha Xi Delta Invited to Colonize at Worcester Polytechnic Institute
National Council is proud to announce that Alpha Xi Delta has been invited to colonize at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1865, WPI was one of the nation's earliest technological universities with where females make up roughly 25% of the nearly 3,000 student body.
Alpha Xi Delta will join a strong Greek community that includes two NPC sororities, Alpha Gamma Delta and Phi Sigma Sigma, and eleven national fraternities. Alpha Xi Delta volunteers and staff will conduct the colonization recruitment beginning in late fall 2006. A campus public relations campaign to generate excitement and interest in Alpha Xi Delta will be conducted just prior to recruitment.

As with all successful colonizations, WPI will need support from our members—both collegiate and alumnae. From serving in a volunteer capacity to providing financial support, there will be many opportunities to be a part of this wonderful opening! Alumnae interested in more information about our colonization efforts or how you can assist with the colony can contact
headquarters.

flirt5721 09-24-2006 01:59 AM

Any one heard anything about the colonization at Worcester Polytechnic Institute? According to the panhellenic website recruitment started on the 23rd (yesterday).

According to the WPI web site recruitment starts 11/2 (http://users.wpi.edu/~panhel/recruitment.html)

and according to the Alpha Xi Delta site (http://www.alphaxidelta.org/wpi/join.asp)
we will be participating in the first round of recruitment events and then recruiting colony members after that.

WCUgirl 10-16-2006 09:17 AM

Ladies,

It looks like we've been invited to present at Northwestern! That would be an AWESOME university for an Alpha Xi chapter. :) I started a thread in Greek Life w/ a link to the article. Sigma Delta Tau and Zeta Tau Alpha will also be presenting. They will be done sometime in the next thirty days.

Speaking of WPI, I LOVE the section on our national website for info about the colonization (AZ-AlphaXi posted the link above).

amanda6035 10-17-2006 11:30 PM

I'm doing some dirty work on here...for a friend....

Ya'll dont have to answer in public if you dont want to....but what are the chances of a colony never getting installed? Has that ever happened before? where the colony just...fell apart? I know some colonies take much longer than others, and HQ would probably keep info on the down-lo if that ever happened....but what are the chances of that actually happening?

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 10-18-2006 01:46 AM

Amanda,

Thinking through our colonizations in recent years, none spring to mind as just having "fallen apart." I can think of an interest group that approached us that unfortunately could not get to what we felt was a viable size to allow us to pledge them, but when we do decide to colonize somewhere, that generally has gone very well -- as I said, can't think of an exception. Hope that helps your friend!

AXiDTrish 10-23-2006 10:48 PM

AZD, well all sororities for that matter, does an incredible amount of research and preparation prior to colonizing a chapter, so they rarely fail. If its a large school, such as AOII at Univ of Arkansas where the investment for the the house alone is $4-5 million....it took/will take many many thousands to colonize and get that group off the ground. God knows your chapter took thousands and you were small!

I'd think if you are going to lose a chapter, it would be in the first few years. You have to build a strong base and hope they "stay alive" and passionate after the newness wears off. And pray you get NM's who are just as passonate. A good rule of thumb....it takes a minimum of 5 years for a chapter to really get off their feet, no matter the size or the school...some can take longer than that. What I think is important is you not only have a strong chapter, but also a strong alumnae and advisor base who will stick with the chapter for more than the regular 1-2 year term. New chapters need to have consistancy from an advisor level.

I know when I took on Iota Theta, I made a personal commitment of 4-5 years...to graduate that first class and make sure the chapter was strong. We're in year 3, but I don't see myself going anywhere anytime soon. LOL! I know you're thrilled right Amanda? HA, maybe I should ask how thrilled your new members are! :D

Sorry I rambled....I'm getting tired.;)

amanda6035 10-23-2006 11:04 PM

My new members think I'm the bomb, thank you very much. The thing that worries me, is that these new members dont have the exposure to the alumnae and advisors like I did, or our current president, since we were still "babies" back then. And even when elections roll around, the only ones who are "probably" going to develop a good relationship with the advisors are those on exec.

I'm suffering hard core from not only senior-itis, but colony member syndrome. I'm terrified of graduating. I'm terrified that I've done so much, picked up so much slack for things that weren't necessarily my job, (but then again whose job was it - for example, who's supposed to place T-shirt orders? I've always done it cause I'm the one with the check book!) that if someone doesnt come step up to the plate, that what I've worked so hard for is suddenly going to fall to hell. I'm not trying to sound snooty, or stuck up, so I really dont need any of the cattier members of GC coming in here and blasting me for these concerns - because that's all they are - are concerns. I just....I dont want my chapter to fall to pieces. And I know that's colony member anxiety. I wish I knew how to get over it.

Should be interesting when elections results come out. At least I know that this year I wont have to the heartbreak from last year. One of my last official duties to my chapter - I am on NomCom. No surprises.

But yeah - totally off track......then again, I cant really say anything else about the situation I was referring to above. I think they'll be just fine...

AXiDTrish 10-23-2006 11:12 PM

Your chapter will be fine....it's the best it has been in 3 years. Don't worry, I always call for alumnae and advisor support.

AXiDGrl 10-24-2006 02:13 AM

I see that happening in the sisters of our chapter right now too. We have been a chapter for only a year and a half and twenty of our colony members are graduating, leaving only a few left. It seems as though it has been hard on them and they are having the same concerns as you. But there is no need to worry because things will turn out fine, whether it seems it will now or not.

ForeverRoses 10-25-2006 04:01 PM

I'm sorry to crash...

But I just wanted to say that when I was initiated into my sorority, I was a member of the 6th new member class (2 years removed from the last of the colony members graduating). Did our chapter struggle? Yes-- we were no longer the "newest" chapter so we didn't have as much help from HQ (help yes, someone around all the time, no), and we also didn't have an established alumnae base to draw from for help. So what helped? We had a WONDERFUL alumna who stepped up to the plate even though she herself was only 24. Without her, who knows? So if you are worried, stay involved. Be an advisor, or write encouraging notes. Send $ (even if it is only $10). Volunteer to write an alumna newsletter to keep other alumnae up to date. Make sure the new women know they are apreciated and loved. End crash.

Any one hear anything about the WPI recruitment?

and

How is the Monmouths colony doing?

MonmouthSIG 11-14-2006 11:31 AM

Monmouth Colony is doing really well. We had some ups and downs this semester, but everything seems to be smoothing itself out and getting back on track. As many of you probably heard, we lost one of our original 16 girls who were pinned. She passed away on Halloween. It was a really tough time for all of us and we're still trying to take it day by day. I hope the new colony is doing well and if any of them are on here and need advice or anything, feel free to contact me!!!! :D

flirt5721 12-04-2006 01:09 PM

According to the website set up for the WPI colony pledging was yesterday. Any one have any news about them.

saraski 12-04-2006 06:41 PM

Crashing your board. I'm on the Greek Alumni Council at WPI and we got a communication this morning from the Greek Advisor that the new AZD Colony at WPI pledged 51 girls yesterday. Amazing job an congratulations on your success!

This is going to be a great thing for the Greek System at WPI!

Way to go!

Sara

AZ-AlphaXi 12-04-2006 10:08 PM

Don't worry about crashing .. with good news like that you're always welcome here .. thanks for the update ... its good to hear that the colony is off to a fine start.

hazelle 12-06-2006 08:32 PM

Hey howdy sisters!! Have been wondering how the reestablishment of Xi Chapter at Kentucky went?? Can't believe we had to give up our house due to low membership only to go to open bidding without our lovely home!! Meanwhile, congrats to the new sisters at WPI....Alpha Xi Delta sisterhood forever and friendship never ending!!

Xi love from an Xi initiate

AXiDSarahJ 12-07-2006 01:18 PM

What?

So I'm really confused with the last post. I was not aware there was any current reestablishment of Xi chapter. I was part of the reestablishment that was attempted in 2001 and I was there when we decided to close in Dec 2003 and I still have a few sisters still at the University of Kentucky. So if anyone knows something about this please PM me.

AXiD is not listed as a chapter on the Greek Life website http://www.uky.edu/StudentAffairs/Greek/chap.htm. But I wonder why Nationals still has the Xi chapter listed as active on the website.

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 12-07-2006 07:27 PM

Just Confusion...

There is no current attempt to re-establish Xi chapter. Not sure where that one came from. The chapter is listed on the website because National Council has not relinquished the chapter's charter. Any further discussion should be by PM.

And BTW, I'm told WPI has 52 now ... one NM just couldn't make the initial pledging. :)

hazelle 12-08-2006 02:44 AM

Hi you'all!! I am an Xi initiate from Kentucky and an alum in Louisville told me on line that Xi chapter was having some kind of open rush in the Student Center back in August. I emailed National to see if they needed alum help but heard nothing. So, I thought you'all would know the latest. Knew that 321 Columbia Terrace was another sorority's home now, but the thought of our chapter resurfacing took some of that pain away. Wonder why the rumor went all the way to Louisville?? Sorry for the confusion. But love having so many sisters on this site to share our sisterhood!!

flirt5721 03-04-2007 11:52 PM

Any updates on how our two colonies are doing?

MonmouthSIG 03-07-2007 12:10 PM

As a matter of fact :D

In an email received this morning...

Dear Monmouth Colony Members,

I apologize for this mass e-mail, however, there is some critical
information that needs to be relayed to you and I don't feel it can wait
until your next meeting. I am not certain if Beth has relayed to you
that National Council met this past weekend. As usual, the progress of
the Monmouth University Colony was discussed. It is clear that the time
has come to make a determination as to what the future of the colony
will be. As such a decision has been made...

...INSTALLATION has been approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Working within the confines of both the colony's schedule and our
National President's schedule, Installation has been set for April 22nd.
Pre-Initiation activities will begin on the evening of April 21st. Many
more details will follow as to times and locations. For now, however,
please block these two dates on your calendar. For Initiation, all of
you will need to wear white badge attire (including white shoes). I
only tell you this now because white "Quill clothes" can be a bit hard
to come by.

More details will come through Beth. Congratulations, ladies!

Fraternally,

Gretchen

flirt5721 03-07-2007 12:48 PM

Congratulations :D only a few more weeks til you get to wear our Quill.

AZ-AlphaXi 03-07-2007 02:30 PM

Congratulations !!! I've been to several installations ... an installation is so inspiring !! enjoy your special day, I know how hard you all have worked for this!!

amanda6035 03-07-2007 04:07 PM

YAHOOOOO! Good stuff! I'm so excited for you ;-) See, I told you you didnt have anything to worry about.

Eirbear 03-08-2007 12:13 PM

Yay! Congratulations to all the women of the Monmouth Colony!

amanda6035 03-31-2007 09:30 AM

What's the mailing address of the Monmouth Colony? FHQ hasnt posted it on the website yet.

MonmouthSIG 03-31-2007 09:43 AM

Rebecca Stafford Student Center
Box 49 (unless it changed since last year, but I don't think so)

flirt5721 04-09-2007 12:41 AM

AXiD choosen to present at University of Illnois - Urbana Champaign. Hopefully we can get our Kappa Chapter back.

Another post has that AXiD has been there twice but according to the Every Chapter thread we have only been there once. Which is correct? I tried looking for it but couldn't find the answer. Also do we have a house there?

axidhypotenuse 05-02-2008 07:28 PM

This thread hasn't been posted on in a while but I felt like everyone should know how AXiD at WPI is doing...

We were installed on October 6, 2007! I'm not postive how many women were initiated at this time but I would guess roughly 60. This was followed by our first COB!

Our first official Formal Recruitment (Gamma Class) brought in 19 pledges, myself included, and 17 were initiated on February 10, 2008. After our Spring COB, we initiated an additional 10 fabulous women on April 13, 2008 (Delta Class)!!

Our chapter is continuing to flourish and I am proud to be an Alpha Xi!!

AZ-AlphaXi 09-19-2008 01:39 PM

Alpha Xi Delta has been chosen to make presentations at Drake University in Iowa and at Temple University in PA. Both presentations will be in October.
