Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and rock star Sheryl Crow are engaged. The cyclist announced the engagement in a statement Monday, and said he asked Crow on Wednesday while they were in Sun Valley, Idaho.

No wedding date has been set, although it could be a spring wedding, Armstrong spokesman Mark Higgins said.

Armstrong retired in July after winning his seventh straight Tour.

The marriage will be the second for Armstrong, who has three children with ex-wife Kristin. It will be the first for Crow.

It is kinda weird, but I heard about this last Friday! Before it was even out in the news! Lance and Cheryl were here in Austin last Thursday night, and one of the DJs from the morning show I listen to saw them. He mentioned the next morning that he had seen them at Hula Hut and that she was wearing a BIG ring!!!

It was kinda cool to hear about it before it was in the news! Hehehe.

Personal opinion- I don't really like her all that much but I LOVE Lance! Apparently he said not too long ago that if they ever got married, that they would make Austin their home, mainly because this is where his kids live. Awwww. :)

I LOOOOOVE Lance...not so much a fan of Sheryl though.

I don't know...I have a hard time seeing the connection between them. However, since he's "retired" from competitive cycling, I think his demeanor and personality will change a bit...so I wonder how that will change things.

And I will be SOOO pissed at him if he goes on tour with her. He retired from cycling to spend more time with his kids...going on tour is NOT spending more time with the kids.

That's cool you got to hear it first...I'm jealous because you're in Austin and I'm not!!!

Why is anyone surprised to hear this news? I'm not. Apparently they were going to get engaged last year, but decided against it so he could go for his seventh Tour victory.

They said today during the announcement on the news here that he is considering unretiring to go for an eight Tour victory. I guess to stick it to those who believe he had "enhancement" for his victories. I say GO LANCE!

When the news was talking about it they were making this big old deal saying "celebrity couple engaged" then when they announced it I was like "duh". I read it in like People or InTouch or some celebrity magazine LAST WEEK!

Yep, not surprising at all. The commentators on the Tour said the same thing about how they had talked about doing it a year ago.

I got a chuckle out of his comment about un-retiring. Didn't hear it, just saw the caption while I was at the gym that he wanted to tick off the French.

Well, I hope they are very happy together...I personally cannot stand either one of them! But, it looks like we'll be seeing more of them...ick

I don't like Sheryl Crow at all.... But whatever.

I do however, LOVE Lance!!! He is just too cool. Of course, I do live in Austin so it's kind of a requirement here. I think if you live here and say you don't like Lance, the city asks you to move to San Antonio. :)

Maybe now that she's getting married, Sheryl Crow will, like, EAT something.

That would be a GREAT idea for her!

But, Lance is a pretty slim guy, so I don't think that's in the cards for her. She's gotta make sure he doesn't make her look fat. :p

ETA: Just found out that Lance's birthday is coming up!!! He will be 34 on September 18th! :)

I think they are a REALLY cute couple... hopefully if the have kids there names wont be like named apple or pair or mango....

I got to see Lance cycle the football into the stadium for the kickoff at a UT game a couple of years ago.
