Kanye West Rips Into Bush during live feed
Any thoughts on this? I'm on the West Coast so we got the edited version since it wasn't live for us but if you check out the link, you can check out what he said.
Kanye West's Comments. Right or Wrong? |
Deservedly so.
Probably not professional, but deserved. |
It's on bittorent already. Loved Mike Myer's expression when Kayne West said it.

I think there is a time and place for expressing those types of opinions and that wasn't the time and place. Our local NBC station delayed the concert an hour but I saw it live on MSNBC. I thought, when they replayed it on the local station, it would be cut out, but it wasn't. When the Dixie Chicks did something similar (spoke against Bush during a concert), radio stations cut their air time and a big deal was made about it. We'll see what happens this time.
Prior to this hurricane, Bush's approval rating was the lowest it has ever been. |
I don't like Kanye West, but tonight he said something that a lot of black folks have thought about the GOP in general, and this President in particular, for a long time.
I applaud him for saying it, though I can't imagine what this will do to his album sales. |
Video's here: http://media.putfile.com/Kanye79
Mike Myers face at that moment - hell, during West's whole spiel - is priceless. So polite. So Canadian! And yeah, even though I agree with what he said, time and place much, Kanye? |
Wow! Thanks for that link. I missed the whole thing so it was hard to picture exactly how it happened.
|
It definitely wasn't the time or place for it but I agree with Kanye.
LOL...Mike Myers' face is priceless. He looks like a mix between a deer caught in headlights and shock. |
lots of frustration out there...

I posted about this in the Katrina thread last night and I'm sorry but he really made me sick. This wasn't a time or place to bring up political things. If he cared so much about bringing aid to "his people", then he should have shut his mouth and followed the teleprompter.
I hate the way they portray us in the media. We see a black family that says they're looting. We see a white family that says they're looking for food & you know it's been five days because most of the people are black & even for me to complain about I would be a hyprocrite because I try to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what's the biggest amount that I can give. And just to imagine if I was down there, those are my people down there, so anybody out there that wants to do anything with the setup the way America is setup to help the poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. I mean the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize that a lot of the people that can help are at war right now fighting another way andthey've given them permission to go down & shoot us." That's the whole "speech" thingy he did, some of it isn't in that clip. I'm sorry I'm tired of hearing about this. Yes, the poor black AND WHITE people stranded on the highways and Super Dome and convention center needed aid first. Actually I'd say that the HOSPITAL needed aid first. But there are so many people who are stranded, not just the poor and black. Since Kanye is such a pro on Jesus to make a song about him, maybe he should think about what Jesus would do and help EVERYONE, not just "his people". |

The hurricane, flooding, and destruction are not political. How the relief efforts are being handled certainly appear to be. |
I'm not saying that I agree with the way everything is being handled, because I'm not there and I don't see it. So perhaps my opinion on this isn't very valid because I'm not there.
I think ALL hospitals, families with young children/babies, elderly and those with medical needs should have been first. |
I don't think this will affect Kanye's album sales THAT much. His audience is quite a bit different from the Dixie Chicks. I imagine they're far less conservative on the whole.

I can understand Kanye's frustration--he was just saying what a lot of people are thinking. When you look at who was unable to evacuate...well, it tells you a lot about the divide in this country. If you're observant you've always known it was there, but this was the first time in a few years that the divide has been so blatant and in your face.
The whole situation is heartbreaking. |
The race card is played out.
West is just another idiot trying to capitalize on this tragedy. It's pretty messed up to see someone doing that when their efforst and energy should be used in other more helpful means. Maybe if the rescue workers could go into these area's without being mobbed or shot at by the people they are trying to help it wouldn't be the tragic situation it is right now. I have a few friends down there that luckily I have heard from and their stories of how things are going are just sick. If you don't have a weapon to protect yourself, chances are you are going to be robbed of whatever you have. People are shooting at electric company workers, red cross personel bringing in aid, medics, etc. The national guard can't concentrate on what's important b/c they are escorting people out of the area so they don't get carjacked and killed. Kanye is bitching about how it's the gov'ts fault but ignoring the real situation of how it is there. |

ETA: Here's another source: http://www.pensitoreview.com/2005/08...orleans-floods :( :( |
Not to be a bitch, but is there a reliable source... not just opinion websites?
I'm not a fan of George Bush, but I really am curious what context this was taken out of. |
No matter if that picture is real or not...he was giving a speech for VJ Commemoration Day at Naval Base Coronado on August 30...and that is where the picture says he was. The picture posted by Sistermadly says September 1st because that is when the website published it.
Here is another picture of it... http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...apm10208301856 Hope that helps! :) (Not being a bitch either!!) |
Bush Aides Meet With Black Leaders
|
In my opinion, the time and place is CNN, MSNBC, FOX news network, ABC, NBC, CBS, every major news source in the country. The remarks were made during a benefit concert and I still believe that you attract more flies with honey (ie. can raise more money with a hopeful, positive, sympathetic attitude, rather than an angry one). Numerous people have made similar comments on all of the cable news shows, and I agree with the comments.
I think there is no excuse for not having provided a means of evacuation for all of those people. I think there is no excuse to not have had food and water ready to go in by Tuesday. I think there is no reason to have had hospitals trying to operate under those conditions. This was botched big time and lives were lost because of it. We can only hope that we've learned from this one and things will change in the future. ETA: And I don't buy the photo op propaganda of Bush's visit to Mississippi where he's hugging a young African American girl. How convenient to show that after those comments were made. "See, I care about African Americans, I even hugged one" being the message. |

As for me, I'm not buying it. He lost me a long time ago, but when I saw that photo of him playing guitar on vacation while the Gulf Coast was being inundated, I lost what ethereal wisps of respect I could have mustered for the man. |

But regardless of the date, everybody knew the hurricane was coming - a Category 5, catastrophic event, not just your run of the milll rainstorm. I think the man should have interrupted his photo op to, I don't know, return to Washington ahead of the storm just to make sure that Homeland Security lived up to its mission? But what do I know - maybe I expect too much from the leader of the free world. |
First Kanye, now Celine Dion:
"There's people still there waiting to be rescued. To me that is not acceptable," she yelled. "I know they have reasons for it. But I don't want to hear those reasons. ... How can it be so easy to send planes in another country to kill everybody in a second and destroy lives. We need to serve our country." Who knew she was an American citizen? (from http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/09/0...elp/index.html) |
I wanted to bow to Kanye when I heard about this. I was at work when this happened. He called folx out and it was well deserved.
I hope his CD sales skyrocket! I will be buying his latest on Friday. Right now I am listening to Vancouver's news 1130. My friend works for them. There is a poll asking Canadians if they plan on donating. Over 55 percent don't plan on it...I am fine with that. BUT the reasons were disgraceful. The main one was I don't like the US politics. WTF? This is SO not about politics! This is about people being stranded...there are quite a good number of Canadians stranded there too. The people who have this attitude should be ashamed of themselves /end vent Quote:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As blatant as the pictures were--live and up front on ALL MEDIA circuits the only point to Hurricane Katrina is to open a whole can of folks who basically kept swept under a rug. Then they got swept down Ole Man River... And I am NOT even close to joking... And as far as Mayor Nagin preparedness level goes, he has never done disaster relief and has little experience is managing one of the worst natural disasters in the Untied States. That in no way is an excuse. But he did trust the "FEDERAL authorities" to tell him what his city services will be capable of doing when Hurricane Katrina hit... And at best, are you folk pissed of at Kanye West's statements trying to tell me (and only me, not anyone else) that this is the BEST that the FEDS can do for disaster preparedness? How Mayor Nagin not know that the levees were only built to sustain a category 3 or 4 hurricane is beyond me. Nevertheless, hindsight is always 20/20... And the fingerpointing game will be continued after these few words by our commercial (spelled=BIG TICKETED IN THE BILLIONS CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS) sponsors... Oh, did I say that out loud... :rolleyes: |
