The story of Greekchat:
The Creation In the beginning John created the Chatboard. It was formless and void and darkness was over the threads of the deep, and the Spirit of John was moving over the surface of the bandwith. Then John said, "Let there be Forums"; and there was Forums. John saw that the Forums were good; and God separated the Greek-Talk from the Other. John called the Greek-Talk "Greek Life", and the Other He called ChitChat And there was evening and there was morning, one day. Then John said, "Let there be a Search funtion in the midst of the chaos to come, and let it separate the regulars from the newbies." And John saw that it was good. Then John said, "Let the Forum have Members"; and it was so. And John saw that it was good. Then John saw all that he had made was good. Then the Trolls began to fill the board and tempted the good members to eat from the tree, so they could be like John... And thus we have GC as it is today. PS...I know I'm going to hell for this |

BAAAA HAAA HAAAA! I love this thread! :)

A plague of perps would enter the board every so often claiming to be a pmn, active, alumna, alumnus, or pnai. The members and moderators would out them and pluck them from the garden like weeds.

AlphaFrog and wrigley, I seriously love you both.

Really? I heard John was a Phi Mu.
|
Well to dispell Rumors, I am not a SX!
Nice Try though!:D |
Was this a serious question?
Before 1999 there was a site called www.greeksource.com . In fact if you type that in, it will bring you here. It was a really old format, like maybe one giant thread with changing topics that used to have a lot of arguments about APO if I remember correctly. For the longest time it was advertised on the site that it was for sale. John bought the site from the original owners. I believe the original owners were Greeks from florida. I wonder what ever became of them? Or whether they ever check this out? Anyway. John took the site down for a while until he put this bulletin board format into place. The server location has changed from time to time also. Greekchat grew from there. Slowly at first and then it took off in leaps and bounds. Another site that was conntemporary to greeksource.com was http://mcrae.ca/greek/ . I believe Duncan was a Canadian Lambda Chi? 33girl help me out? Its a shame that site died completely because there were some nice posts and resources on it. Anyway, thats the basics of Greekchat. |

I was a regular on Duncan's Greek Pages, along with PenguinTrax. Sad to see the site go, but parts of it live on in GreekChat. |
I remember first visiting Duncan's when I was toying with the idea of becoming Greek. It was through Duncan's that I found my way to GC the semester I pledged. I think I may have had a few posts on there.
We all know John Hammell's really 13 years old, wears glasses, something comparable to that of a Harry Potter. |
I think it was because of KSigRC I ended up on the board; I was on e-board at the time, and was looking for some new ideas on how to help run the chapter. James in particular had some good ideas which helped with some things, especially when I became President. I came on here and ended up sticking around.
I think I post more now than I did when I was in college, which is actually kind of funny. |
