Middle Tennessee State U.

We have a daughter and several of her friends who are interested in this school. Does anybody have any insider tips on what it's like?

My Interior Decarator went to school at MTSU. I believe she was an AOPi ( not certain). I'll ask her about it.

ztawinthropgirl 08-23-2005 09:19 PM

It's known for its communications program. That's all I know.

Ask Crystal (MTSUgirl)! I don't know much about the Recruitment there, but I know that it's one of our "if you don't make quota, you will be called and asked why not" chapters!

(I am hoping so hard for that Azure Blue star on the Carnation Nation flag!! :D )

I looked there for grad school. I know one girl who graduated from there who absolutely loved it!

Tippiechick 08-24-2005 09:22 PM

I went there after Ole Miss. It's the second largest school in TN. (I believe that UT-Knoxville is the largest.)

I LOVE MTSU. Parking sucks. Let me repeat: Parking sucks.

DZHBrown, and Crystal (MTSUgurl) can answer questions, too.

They have a great Sigma Nu chapter, their Pres. was in my group at one of our national events back in my undergrad days.

They win national awards..

I love MTSU. We have a wonderful Mass Comm school, and I loved my department (education). Football champions we're not, but games are a blast. Parking sucks, but we have a wonderful library, more amazing professors than psychotic ones, only about 3000 people live on campus, with a huge percentage commuting and a most that live in the millions of apartment complexes around the school. I've always felt safe there whenever I've had to walk to my car after night classes, but of course you still need to be mindful about walking at night. I've heard rumors that they're in the process of changing recruitment around. I had a blast at recruitment there. All of the chapters seemed strong, and I loved being on Pan. We also have a new Greek Life Director (fairly new - I think about a year) that I haven't met yet. If you have any specific questions about the school, I'll try to answer them. What is your daughter planning to major in?

I'm from TN. Even though I didn't go to MTSU, several of my friends did. One of my friends was the President of Chi-O and several of our girls transferred and affiliated with that chapter. Another friend was KD. I knew of a girl (much older than me) who was an ADPi. All of these girls were classy and talked highly of their chapters.

MTSU has a wonderful aerospace program and is known for its recording industry program. It is one of the few universities still offering a Human Sciences (Home Economics) program. It also has a very strong Agriculture Department, especially its Horse Science studies. Students come from all over the nation for the Aerospace and Recording industry programs. MTSU began as a teacher's college in the early 1900's and continues to produce a large amount of the area's teachers.
There are seven national sororities located on campus. These sororities are housed in chapter rooms, but have been planning for several years to build small chapter houses on campus. When my daughter pledged in 2002, we heard they would be built by 2004, but as of now have not even been started. There are many fraternities on campus, and Greek life is quite strong.
The University, part of the Sun-belt conference, has not performed very well in football in the three years of membership in the conference. However, MTSU has always had very strong men's and women's basketball teams.
Murfreesboro is a beautiful town, and many who graduate from MTSU choose to make it their permanent residence. I began school there thirty years ago and have always loved the university. I hope this information is helpful to you. You and your family can check out their website at www.MTSU.edu.

How competitive/"hard" is it to get in the Masters program for Recording Arts and Technologies at MTSU?

Jobellesis 09-04-2005 09:21 PM

I have no idea.

Tippiechick 09-05-2005 12:16 AM

I doubt it's very competitive. MTSU has a great RIM/MC program. I used to work in it on scholarship. But, I seriously doubt the master's program is extremely competitive. The only extremely competitive program there is Nursing. Every other program is pretty open.

Thanks Tippiechick. BTW, I love your signature! :D

Tippiechick 09-05-2005 03:01 PM

ZTAWinthropgirl, if you need anything, let me know.

ztawinthropgirl 09-05-2005 08:58 PM

Thanks Tippiechick!

BTW, I looked on the MTSU website this afternoon while I was mass producing resumes so I can find a job that pays the bills.

The Mass Communication and Recording Arts Masters programs are not competative from what I gathered on the website. Ya'll I have finally made up my mind to go to MTSU to get my masters in mass communication and recording arts! :D

MTSU

I just graduated a couple of weeks ago from MTSU. I have a BBA in Finance.

I have lived in Murfreesboro for 10 years, so I know all about the city! Please PM me if you need me to answer any questions!!

Actually, MTSU is the LARGEST school in TN... We have beat out UT-K.. That is what the President said at graduation..

I loved going to college there.

Go BIG BLUE!!

Now is a great time to go, there are going to be tons of new and exciting things that are going to start happening on campus in the next couple of years...

chelly 07-27-2006 06:51 PM

My cousin was a founding sister of AXO at MTSU like 6 or 7 years ago!

shinerbock 07-27-2006 07:13 PM

Before I settled on law/politics I was very interested in recording, audio/studio engineering and music business. Before enrolling at Auburn, I had been leaning toward Belmont, which is known for its music programs. However, while visiting Belmont and talking about the industry, I often heard that MTSU had the best studios in the country (of universities).
