R. Kelly Joins Lineup at MTV Awards

NEW YORK - The MTV Video Music Awards have been defined by stirring performances, shocking surprises and sexual shenanigans. Now the network has booked an act that might provide all three elements in one performance
— R. Kelly.

The chart-topping R&B singer was named Tuesday as one of the performers at Sunday's awards show in Miami. Kelly, whose latest album, "TP.3 Reloaded," has sold more than 1 million copies, created buzz this summer with his five-part song, "Trapped in the Closet," a mini soap opera about infidelity.

The 38-year-old singer, known for his sexually charged material, also faces multiple child pornography charges in his native Chicago stemming from a three-year-old case that allegedly involves a teenage girl. The case, which has yet to go to trial, hasn't hurt Kelly's recording career: In the interim, he has released four albums that have sold more than 1 million copies each and charted several hits.

Still, the MTV Video Music Awards may be Kelly's most mainstream performance since his 2002 arrest.

Kelly is set to join a lineup of performers that includes Kelly Clarkson, Green Day, 50 Cent, Shakira, Mariah Carey, The Killers, Kanye West and others. The hip-hop mogul formerly known as P. Diddy — now just Diddy — will be the host.

The performers, presenters and Diddy will each receive a $26,000 gift basket courtesy of the network. Included in the goody bag: an iPod shuffle, a two-night stay at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina courtesy of Auberge Resorts, a two-year VIP Blockbuster Online membership, a Dooney & Bourke travel bag, Jose Cuervo limited-edition tequila and an Americana Couture T-shirt bejeweled with Swarovski crystals.

I didn't realize how SHORT Bow-Wow is compared to Ciara. I personally think her dress could have been a little longer.

A few thoughts...

How in the devil did Snoop won best dressed? Even Joe Camel (Jay) and tore-up 50 was looking better than him! Even Lil' John!

Dear Mase: I saw you showing up with 50 and now you're with G-Unit. You had a lot brownie points when I was in college and you were with Diddy. Whatever ones you had left are gone now. I'll give them to Kayne.

To me, Rrr was looking kind of retarded doing all of the parts by himself ! Mama Jitterbug said he looked funny when he was doing Kathy's part. What he did, was that part 6?

Dear Ashely and Paris: Why did ya'll let you sisters (Jessica and Nicky) come out the house like that? They looked bad and they will be getting clowned by People when I get my issue on Saturday.

Dear Diddy: Were there some stipulations on you hosting the awards-my girlfriend be a part of the preshow, Biggie tribute, constant change in Sean John clothes?

Was it me or when Grandmaster Flash started playing Atomic Dog that Diddy was going to start hopping or that Shaq was going to appear hopping? Also, wasn't Kelly Clarkson rocking it out on the end?

For the first time in i don't know when Lil Kim didn't look that bad (for her)....


RRr looked like he needed to be having that convo by himself in a white padded room with a designer straight jacket perhaps.

Diddy, Sean whatever the hell your name is beat it already...he was irritating. Biggie is gone let it go man.


I did kinda enjoy them bringing Uncle Luke & Hammer out. Never liked Hammer's music but gave him credit for his high energy dancing.

Ashley and Jessica....skankelous. Jessica grates and now i can add her sister to the mix.


Loved Kanye and Jamie..."She' gives me money..when I'm in need.." I think this was my only fave part. I would watch again just to see this and I am done.

and I concur with Jitterbug on giving Snoop best dressed..please Jay or Usher should have gotten that one.

Alright..I have some chit to say about this year's WHACK VMA's.

I fell asleep before the end. It wasn't worth being tired this morning.

Diddy: That ni$$a is gettin' too old to be prancing around the stage. The fireworks display was lame and so were his jokes and dancing. I was LMAO when Diddy was doing his little dancing thing with Omarion. It was WHACK. Then, the camera cut to Michelle of Destiny's Child saying to Beyonce "WHAT ARE THEY DOING?" You could see the entire crowd was like WTF. It's time for Diddy to retire. I think that Kim Porter is really pretty, but that's the first time I had heard her open her mouth and speak. She usually is quiet and standing behind Diddy cuz I figure she just goes with the flow knowing she's collecting them checks $$$ every month. Well she opened her mouth at the pre-awards show and sounded more ghetto than I could have imagined. Was that Biggie's daughter sitting next to Mrs. Wallace? She must be a teenager by now. Unfortunately, she's not exactly the cutest child.

Ciara & Bow Wow: When is Bow Wow going to get to hang out with some people his own size?

R. Kelly: Him acting out the Chuck parts was HILLARIOUS. So that was a preview of the next chapter. Rufus stays with his wife. Eeewwww on her for wanting the gay husband back.

Jessica Simpson - Eeewwww.

Lil Kim: I actually thought she looked better last night. I could see the tracks in her weave, but I liked the highlights. The guy who was up there with her dogged her out and you could see that she was pissed.

Jay Z: That suit was fly. I think I've seen him wear that same suit before though.

Eva Longoria: What exactly was the point in her walking out on stage in a bathing suit?

Suge Knight: LMAO at him getting shot in the leg on Saturday night at a pre-awards party.

Awards, of course, are only part of the story at the VMAs. Performances tend to be the water-cooler talk in the week following, and this year offered plenty of candidates for discussion. 50 Cent will certainly get people talking for ripping into Fat Joe after his medley of "Disco Inferno," "Outta Control" and "So Seductive." "Fat Joe's a pu---," screamed the rapper in a tirade that was pumped over the PA in-house but which was bleeped out for the broadcast. "F--- Joe. F--- Terror Squad." Earlier, 50 jumped onstage (off camera) after Joe joked about G-Unit's security presence while presenting. :eek:

was it just me or did anyone else find the exchange between paris hilton and bow wow extremely tacky--comparing ice and price was so YUCK

dang, i thought she looked hella cute last night in that little dress she was wearing.

i have to agree with MD. i did not like alicia's dress either. the color was blah and it did nothing for her... but her hair was cute.

as for jessica white and john legend, i know she was in his "so high" video. i wonder if they're dating now?

Watched part of it til I could not take anymore but neither Gwen nor Snoop were best dressed from the 30 minutes that I viewed.

THANK YOU!! I thought I had missed something. There were so many more people that were better dressed. I LOL at Snoop for giving the money to his OWN foundation!
