texasangel13's UT fall rush 05
So I am REALLY excited about rush starting on wed with our first convocation... i'm still deciding what to name my top choices but i am thinking that i'm gonna go with sex and the city characters... i mean there are definitely enough to go around... i am thinking the 4 i like best will be the four main characters... any thoughts, or advice about open house?

Yea, don't go into rush being dead set on what house you want to join............before you even go to a party. You might be surprised greatly and change your mind!! Have fun, UT has a great Greek system!

UT has an awesome greek system. Go into recruitment with an open mind to all the sororities. :) The best thing to remember is be yourself and you will end up where you belong,even if it isnt your top choice. Rush has a funny way of working outlike that. Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I'm getting ready for orienation which starts at 7. This killing time when you want it to hurry up and get here is a pain. I'll be wearing a green dress tonight that has orange and blue flowers on it with some white flipflops. Well, I'm going to try to kill some more time. I'll update after it.

rush update
Tonight is my first convocation to pick up schedules, meet my rush Rho, and meet the other girls in my rush group... i'm a little nervous, but mostly excited... i'm so happy to finally be getting this thing underway! I'll post and let you know how it all goes!:D

open house
well, yesterday was open house at UT Austin... 14 houses in one day... and I survived them all!!! It was a blast seeing all of the houses and even more fun seeing all of the girls cheering and being so happy to see us. I realized how special the whole rush process really is. I mean, I will NEVER experience anything like this ever again and I am so glad that I decided to go through with it. After open house, we went back and ranked our top 10 choices to submit for period two... I have decided to assign singer/band names to the houses according to what they remind me of...
1) Sara Evans- this house was AMAZING! They seemed sweet and fun, but also very genuine. I LOVED the feeling I got in this house. 2) Dolly Parton- all I can say about this house is how kind they were. I really believed that they were interested in getting to know me. Just like Dolly... they were just soooo nice and always smiling! 3)Hilary Duff- these girls were so sweet and nice, I don't see how anyone could dislike them. 4) Jessica Simpson- these girls were the whole package it seemes... beautiful, sweet, and funny... however they seemed a but too good to be true...something was missing. 5)Britney Spears- these girls were sweet, southern, and very hospitable... they were all sooo gorgeous- it was a little intimidating, and there all had VERY similar looks which, suffice it to say, is not my look. 6)Ashley Simpson- These girls were CRAZY FUN!!! It was so different from the other houses. They were really trying to stand out and break away from the norm. I liked it, though at first, it did make me a little uncomfortable. 7) Barbara Streisand- this house seemes VERY different from the other houses. They seemed focused and mature. They were about more than just chanting and cheering. They were professional, which I really liked. 8) Lindsey Lohan- this house seemed like they were trying way to hard. They had all their best cars parked out front, and it just seemed phony to me. The girls were nice but it just felt fake. I am willing to give them a second chance to prove to me they're genuine. 9) Mariah Carey- this house seemed SOOO diva-ish. They obviously are a very well-off group of girls, and it showed a little. I liked them well enough to keep them though. I want to see how much the money really matters to them. 10) Avril Lavigne- These girls seemed sweet... I just honestly wasn't interested. BUT I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they were one of our last houses of the day- so maybe I was just tired and hungry. The houses on my alternate list are: 1) Gwen Stefani- I liked this house, but I just got a feeling that I wouldn't fit in from the get go. It seemed too cool for me. I don't think I am edgy enough. 2) Paula Abdul- these girls were SUPER cool and VERY excited, but I just didn't feel anything warm and fuzzy. 3) Whitney Houston- this house was alright, and has potential to be great, but I just felt like they struggled with their identity. They couldn't really dicede what they stood for. 4) Lisa Loeb- this group was REALLY nice. BUT they didnt seem like they were very involved in the social aspect of the Greek community. They all seemed very close to one another, but not close to anyone outside. They seemed a little closed off to the world, and although that makes for a SUPER strong bond between sisters... I am just looking for a social outlet in addition to the bonds of my sisterhood. we pick up schedules for the next two days of philanthropy events today... 10 houses- 2 days- i can't wait to see who invited me back! post after this round! |
oh man TxAngel remember the Sarah Evans concert when she saved that special wave just for me..woot woot I know her!!! Yay I'll be singing Sarah Evans all week for you :)

philanthropy period... day one
Hey yall,
Well I just got back from my first day of philanthropy events... I got invites from 6 houses total (not too bad considering i AM older)... i went to 4 today and visit the other 2 tomorrow... Ranked in order: 1) Barbara Streisand- she REALLY stood out today... I LOVE the girls, and i feel VERY welcomed and comfortable there. PLUS- they have a VERY extensive philanthropy commitment. Once again they were very professional, mature, and prepared to show me what they had to offer. This house seemed like the perfect place for me! 2)Paula Abdul- so I orginally prefed Paula at like 12th or something and orignally I wasn't very excited about being invited back BUT i had an AWESOME experience there today! Their philanthropy was VERY touching. The girl I talked with was so amazing... we really clicked and I hope they invite me back for skit night!!! I am really looking forward to going back..."Straight Up!";) 3) Whitney Houston- this house really impressed me today as well. They all seemed very athletic, which i really like. And it was just nice that they wanted to see me again. I was very impressed to learn about their events with other non Greek frats as well. Overall, I am glad I went back. 4) Lisa Loeb- "You say, I only hear what I want to..." well now hear this: i really liked the girl I spoke with today, but I still feel that it might be a bit too small, and still cut off from the rest of the Greek community. I don't want to kid myself, or anyone else, into thinking that I am rushing for different reasons than I am. I still feel this house doesn't have the social involvement that i am looking for. I am looking for a certain balance between social interaction and commitment, work and play... and I don't feel they have the balance I am personally looking for. I visit Sara Evans (YAY!!!) and Avril Lavigne tomorrow, then I pref tomorrow night... wish me luck!!! |

Period One- Day 2 (philanthropy)
GOOD LORD IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!!
I went back to Sara Evans and Avril Lavigne today and was blown away. Here are my 5 pref choices that I will me submitting at 2pm... 1) SARA EVANS!!!- these girls are sooo amazing. Smart, funny, dedicated, and very excited to see me every day! I met like 6-8 girls today and loved them all. They were soooo sweet and I pray I get to go to skit night! I am really beginning to believe THIS is the house for me! :) 2) A TIE B/w Barbara Streisand & Avril- Avril REALLY impressed me today. It was my very last house on open house day... I guess I was just tired and hungry b/c these girls had so much to offer the second time around. I hope they invite me back for sure! 3) Paula Abdul- the girl I spoke with yesterday really gave me a good feeling about their house. 4)Whitney Houston- I am still on the fence about these girls, but they really made an impression on me in period 1... I hope they want to show me more for period 2! the one house I won't be preffing (but could still end up with) was Lisa Loeb- and, to be honest, I wouldn't mind going back for skit night with these girls... they are honest, and very supportive of each other and rushees! LOOKS LIKE I CAN'T LOSE!!! Can't wait for skit night tomrw night!!! For now I'm off to pref and then taking the night off!!! Dinner with a friend I haven't seen in FOREVER... and meeting with my Rho Chis for a little snack at Gattis! -Love YALL... thanks for all yall's support! :D |

I think what is texasangel means is that she is off to rank the sororities in the order she likes them... not to attend preference ceremonies...

a little hitch
Well.... SARA EVANS (my legacy house) cut me today. I am really upset about all of this because I really felt at home there. They had to call my mom and tell her they cut me. So that was upsetting for both of us. But oh well, I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
I find out my schedule for skit night at 3pm... and then go straight into parties... so I'll let yall know how it turns out. As for me- I'm gonna go in early and talk to my Rho Chis about what I should do. MUCH LOVE... and Sara(the real one)- you are still my favorite singer girl. |

Wow, it sounds like even with a setback or two, you have some amazing houses to choose from! It's great that you had such wonderful experiences at the houses and are so open to giving people a second chance :-) I hope everything's going well for you!!
