My Rush at UCF
 

Heya I just found this site earlier in the week and figured I'd post how my recruitment goes.

I'm a junior but this is my first year at UCF. I just transfered and figured I'd try Rush and see how sorority life fits me. I figured I might as well give it a shot. I'm hoping to meet people and make friends and hopefully get out of my more reserved shy shell. I live with my sister, our two cats, and my dog, Kiera. She's adorable and my baby =) I spoil her. I like reading, shopping, sleeping, hanging with my boys (all my friends are guys which is another reason I'm rushing), comic books/graphic novels, and yoga. I'm also hoping to start a bellydancing class soon and maybe try horseback riding since I've always wanted to ever since I was little.

Yesterday was Greek Forum where we met our Rho Gamma Groups and it was really interesting. There were so many girls it was overwhelming but everyone was really nice so I didn't feel as nervous as I thought I would. Our Rho Gamma is great and very nice. I was really surprised by how nice everyone was. I'm trying to keep an open-mind through all of this and try to avoid thinking in stereotypes and going for a house because its "the best". I just want someplace I'll fit in and be comfortable.

Today we visited 6 out of the 11 houses and tomorrow we go to the next 5.

As I am kind of a comic dork, I decided to give each house the name of a different female Marvel comic book character. So I've got:

Psylocke
Nocturne
Sunfire
Jean Grey
Namora
Kitty Pryde
Mystique
Blink
Storm
Emma Frost

Ok so here goes my first two days of recruitment:

Day One
Today I wore this really cute but simple green scoop neck shirt and a pair of comfy but nice dark blue jeans I got on sale (I'm a complete sale-whore :p ) It was so much hotter than I was anticipating. I thought I was gonna just like melt outside. Thank god it didn't rain on top of that. I have a teensy sunburn I'm hoping will go away.

We visited Emma Frost, Psylocke, Mystique, Kitty Pryde, Blink and Sunfire today. Even though I'm kinda shy and was afraid I wouldn't be very good at talking to everyone, it was actually really easy. Everyone was so nice and I felt comfortable talking to just about all the girls. I realized it was gonna be really hard to choose between all these nice wonderful girls.

Day Two
Today I wore a pair of dark brown cutoff/capri pants and an aqua green-blue tank top. I was gonna pull my hair back to keep it out of the way but it was being disagreeable this morning. It seemed to be less hot today and there was more cloud cover so it wasn't as hard. That or I'm adapting to it hehe.

So today we visited the remaining houses: Rogue, Storm, Jean Grey, Nocturne, and Namora.

And then came the decision-making :confused:

We had to pick our top seven in any random order and then rank the remaining three in order that we would want them in case any of our top seven don't invite us back.

Now I had several that I knew I absolutely wanted to keep and then a few I was fine in but just couldn't really see myself fitting in with. And the remaining ones were all somewhere in between.

I definitely wanted to go back to Blink, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, and Psylocke. I really liked the girls and conversations I had at those houses, especially Blink and Emma Frost. I just felt really comfortable, like they might fit me well.

In the middle were Sunfire, Storm, and Jean Grey. And at the end were Nocturne and Mystique. I liked Storm but I wasn't sure if I saw myself there but I thought it was a possibility so I kept them. And Sunfire and Rogue were the same. I thought they had potential. I was really surprised though that Jean Grey was in this group. I was really intimidated by this house but when I got in there I had a really good conversation with the girl I talked to. But I still don't think I could see myself in this sorority as the girls are much more put-together then I ever could be. I'm more of a casual girl who likes to get all done up on occasion and when the mood hits me.

Mystique was also nice but I really didn't see myself there. And Nocturne was actually my least favorite. The conversation seemed to lull a lot and I don't think I really had much in common with the girls I talked to.

So in the end my list went (in no particular order)

Blink, Rogue, Psylocke, Emma Frost, Sunfire, Kitty Pryde, and Storm.

and as my ranked bottom three
1. Jean Grey
2. Mystique
3. Nocturne

I'm really nervous about tomorrow. I have like this horrible paranoid fear that like no will invite me back and I'll be devastated. Hoping for the best though =)

I'll try and be more detailed with my likes and dislikes of the different houses as the week goes on. It was just really hard this time since the visits were so short and everyone was so nice and personable.

Sorry I haven't updated. My internet has been really wishy-washy with all the rain.

Day Three
Got invited back to Blink, Sunfire, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, and Emma Frost. I know it was only 5 out of 7 possible but I'm really ok with that. I know its hard to Rush as a junior and I'm just glad someone wanted me back. I know some girls who got cut down much more and they were really upset. I'm just trying to keep an optimistic outlook. I figure it makes my decisions at the end of the day that much easier since I don't have to cut anyone and 4 of my favorites from yesterday kept me so that's good.

Emma Frost: These girls were still really nice but I just don't think I connected with girls today or had as much in common with them. I like them but I'm beginning to think it probably isn't for me. But we shall see.

Kitty Pryde: These girls were really cool and I liked they're philanthropy a lot since it's related to what I wanna do after college. I just didn't feel as good with this group though as I did before but I still like them and feelings can change in a day so we'll see.

Sunfire: I'm actually really glad I got invited back here. My visit on Tuesday was only so-so but I had a much better time today. I had a lot in common with the first girl I talked to and the other two girls were just a lot of fun.

Rogue: I like absolutely love this house and these girls. As of right now I'd say they are my favorites. And I think they're philanthropy is really cool. It's actually an issue that is important to me. And the girls are really down to earth and fun. I could see myself being comfortable enough to look scrubby around them without worrying about them judging me.

Blink: I still really really liek this house but today just wasn't as good as Tuesday. Kind of the opposite way things went with Sunfire. But I think that's just cause one of the girls I talked to on Monday had like a ton in common with me (we played the same instrument at our high schools, similar experiences, etc). They are still in my top three though.

So for tomorrow my list is:
Rogue
Sunfire
Blink
Kitty Pryde
Emma Frost

and since they have us rank the houses we didn't go back to anyway:
Storm
Psylocke
Jean Grey
Mystique
Nocturne

Went to Day Four (Video Day) already but really need to go buy Dayquil/Nyquil/anything to make me feel better cause I'm pretty sure I'm getting sick and I have to make it through the next two days. Will update again when I get back. Ciao :)

Ok back from my medication run and a short nap. I got Sudafed and Dayquil actually hehe and a whole bunch of throat lozenges. Thanks for the advice from everyone:) I think this week is gonna be the death of me.

Today I only went back to 3 out of 5: Blink, Sunfire, and Rogue. These were actually my favorite three though so that’s at least good. I’m getting a little nervous about the cuts but I’ve heard its happening to a lot of girls. I’m so nervous about tomorrow. I mean in the beginning I was still on the fence about joining a sorority but now I’m really kinda looking forward to it.

Blink: I still like these girls a lot. We click really well and I enjoyed my chats today. Nothing has really bothered me about them or anything
Sunfire: These girls seem like a lot of fun and I like them too. It’s really hard for me to choose between them and Blink. I think I like them about the same.
Rogue: I think this is my favorite. I’ve been really getting along with the girls I’ve been meeting and I had a really good conversation today. We had a lot of the same interests and meshed really well. They seem really fun and involved. I feel really at home with this group.

We had to pick three for today so I just kept those three and am hoping for the best. Ciao till Prefs is over tomorrow. :)

Day Five
Was only invited back to Rogue today. But they are my favorite so it works out well for me. I really like these girls and thought their ceremony was very sweet. They’re just really normal girls which I like a lot. We were only allowed to put down houses we went to today on our Bid Card and they also told us not to put down any houses we would definitely not accept a bid from. So I just have Rogue listed but in all honestly, it’s the only house I really want. So we shall what happens.

Looking forward to Bid Day tomorrow. Hoping I’ll be able to make it through since no matter how many pills and vitamins I take I only seem to be getting worse. My mom actually came over today to bring me some Elderberry extract (My family is very into homeopathic natural medicine). It’s supposed to work really well but I hate taking it cause I think it tastes really bad. She just thinks I’m overreacting. But at this point I’ll take anything to feel better and be able to make it to Bid Day tomorrow.

Bid Day
So I went to Bid Day today and I open my envelope to recieve a bid to Alpha Epsilon Phi. Woohoo :D So yay got into my "Rogue". Despite being sick and everything today was a great day and I'm really happy.
