It's confirmed! Check out Canadians Go Greek site!

CIFC 2005

Lady Pi Phi 08-10-2005 12:04 PM

That is awsome. And so perfectly convenient.

I will definitly be attending this year.

Taualumna 08-10-2005 07:04 PM

I'm probably going.

MooseGirl 08-13-2005 09:48 AM

I'll be going - already marked down the dates in my calendar.

I actually emailed shelley last week to ask about it, when she replied she said the site was almost up! And so it is.

the link was off yesterday when i looked,
so here it is (although, they're still finishing it, so it's lacking info):

Lady Pi Phi 09-12-2005 07:01 PM

Does anyone know when the registration info will be available?

MooseGirl 09-12-2005 07:35 PM

I haven't heard - I did hear that Chantal is out of the country and she usually does the web stuff, doesn't she?

AGDee 09-12-2005 07:38 PM

While I think it's great that it will be at U of T, I find it kind of ironic that the University will host this, but won't recognize our organizations.

I'm sure they'll host just about anything for the right price :p

I emailed CIFA president to see if there was any news. I'll let ya know if/when I hear anything.

Any not live in Toronto who wants to share a hotel room? I usually stay at the HI hostel, but if I could split a room with someone, I certainly would - As I get older I recognize the value of a hotel room over a hostel :p

AngelPhiSig 09-15-2005 10:49 PM

I LOVE CANADA!

I have started singing 'O Canada' to my one student - Olivia. It just fits. I dont have any other words but "O-Livia" but its great and she looks at me like Im nuts. (remember shes 4)

Where is Brooke for this?

Go Canada! Our friendly neighbor to the north!

I have a friend named Jan, and somehow we called her Janada, so, yeah, whenever I talk to her I will sing "Ooooooh Janada!"

Sorry, so on the topic, that's cool that you all have your own conferences and stuff. Have fun!

MooseGirl 10-03-2005 10:38 PM

the registration form is up - but the mailing address is still incomplete!

RACooper 10-04-2005 03:14 AM

I have sent an email to ask if they need any help - and/or special tours or what not around campus (I'm a guide at the Soldiers Tower). But as of yet no replies... I'm of course hoping that means everything is a-okay ;)

Yeah, i emailed a week or two ago saying i could help out - well not with tours since I certainly don't know the campus - but with anything else.

My dilemma is that my home chapter is having initiation that weekend. I told them a long time ago that this was going on and they should take advantage of it while it's back in Ontario, but nope, none of them are interested. I'd feel bad missing initiation but at the same time i think i'd get more out of CIFC...

and again, to anyone out there not from TO going, I really would like to share a hotel room with someone...I don't mind the hostel, but yeah, not really feeling like it lately. Unless of course there's some Torontonian who'd like to put me up :p
hmmm, i think i have a friend who just moved there....have to ask her.

Taualumna 10-07-2005 05:31 PM

Hi!

Just to let everyone know that the mailing address for registration has been updated and posted on the site.

Taualumna 10-19-2005 09:15 AM

I'm just wondering who is going. I'm planning to attend Saturday's events (well, most of it, anyway) and the formal.

RACooper 10-19-2005 01:21 PM

I still have to decide - unfortunately the conference falls on the exact same times and dates as an academic conference at UofT as well (Orange Order in Canada - History and Practices)...

I'd love to go and get a better idea of the current state of GLOs in Canada, as well as any expansion plans/rumours etc. Besides I do know of some who said they would go if I'm going - so there is some added pressure.

IF I can juggle the important times for both the CIFC and the academic conference I may just pick and choose what events and talks to make it to for both - of course depending on how close the two events are to each other on campus...

MooseGirl 10-22-2005 02:09 PM

Well, I sent in my registration last week. So i'll be there. Any hotel recommendations? Something cheap but not a dive. (if i had a car this wouldn't be such a problem - i need to get one of those)

I know i have friends and sisters in TO but i hate to inconvenience them, esp since I won't have much time to spend with them.

My chapter changed inish date so hopefully one or 2 will also come :)

RACooper 10-28-2005 04:14 PM

:( <sigh>

Well I won't be able to attend the conference - well the full conference anyways. I'm going to be at the Celtic Studies Academic Conference on campus from 8am to 9pm-ish on Saturday...

I'll still swing by for the Friday night stuff (and marvel at the classier Brunny) as well as try and work out a way to meet-up after the formal dinner ;)

On that note - If anyone is interested I can open-up the Soldiers Tower on Campus to give a greek related tour of it on Sunday just after lunch...

Taualumna 10-28-2005 09:21 PM

The list of attendees is up on the CIFC site. Looks like it's mostly sororities.

Also, does anyone know where Sigma Delta Rho is?

ETA: Never mind...found out the answer...it's a local at McMaster...not up on the Canadian Greeks site yet though

RACooper 11-05-2005 11:33 PM

The friday night meet and greet was interesting - but sorry I couldn't make the dinner after todays workshops... it's 10:32pm and my other conference just wrapped up - I'm seriously beat so I'm heading home to crash.

No worries...most of us left by 10 (except for Randy)

CanadianZete 11-06-2005 02:40 PM

Its pretty disapointing that we (Zeta Psi) has nobody there, considering we are the largest plus oldest in Canada.

I was generally disappointed in the turn out of UofT/Toronto GLO members in general - we were litterally a block from 6 different houses, with another 13 being in a three block radius, yet only 1 active from any of them (at least on the Friday)... and yet I saw many of them out at the bar afterwards...

CanadianZete 11-06-2005 03:44 PM

That is the way things are though. The CIFC being Canadian, is not something advertized by our National organizations. If I didnt frequent internet sites I would have no idea there was a CIFC. So I can understand why many people would not know the event was going on. However, at least organizations at the UofT should have known this time around.

Oh they knew - they just didn't care...

An apathy for anything beyond the chapter is a trait here - one of the reasons why there is no IFC, or really a greek week, or all that much campus involvement - but then again this only reflects the student body which is, believe it or not, even more apathetic.

For the sake of an example I'm involved on the social committe of the Celtic Studies Department (350 undergrads) and the social chair of the Medieaval Studies Department (350 grads and undergrads) - yet getting people out to events is like getting blood from a stone...

Case in point there was a Wine & Cheese recption/welcome for the students and faculty, advertised for two weeks prior - by posters and by faculty - but only 30 students showed over the 3 hours for free food and drink.

Ironically though I have to admit that the student body's apathy is actually helping GLOs with recruitment and getting more acceptance from the school - if student life sucks so much, the GLOs are really the only game in town for any fun; likewise because of the lack or students participating in intramurals, the Faculty of Physical Education opened up some intramural sports to GLO teams (despite the official policy of the school not to have any ties with GLOs).

First Time I read this Post!

Am sure many if not all were disapointed in the turn out.

It is a shame when Few Care!:( But, The Few Can Be Mighty and Hang in there and work harder.

I would have loved to been there and met so many wonderful People from Canada!:)

MooseGirl 11-06-2005 06:06 PM

I had a good time. Nice to see RACooper and Taualumna and everyone else there.

I would've stayed out later last night, but I was wearing heels, and darn it, I still can't torture myself like that!

I think I'm going to save up and go to BC next year. I've never been out west so I might as well take the week off and go!

And here is a pic of two unnamed participants (for the sake of imagined anonymity) :p

I was so disappointed I could not attend! Panhellenic sent me to WRGLC, so we sent two different delegates to CIFC, and third paid her own way. She said it was great though!

I know without a doubt that we are really hoping to have the conference at UBC next year, we have great support from the sororities and the university, so fingers are crossed!
