DiamondK's Fall 05 RUSH!!!!!!

Ok! So I'm about a month early but have been getting pretty excited about rushing at a California school this coming up Fall! I'm going to try to be very careful about not giving away too much info, because I want this experience to be totally fun for me and not have any drama. :) I had enough drama in high school. Anyways, where I am going to school there are five sororities that I know of (I could be off by one) and I love the idea of naming them after crazy different things, so here I go!!

MAKE-UP BRANDS-- YIPPEE!
1. MAC
2. Stila
3. Clinique
4. Lancome
5. Dior

smiley21 08-01-2005 05:30 PM

When does it start??

The second week of September..... its 5 days long. I'm getting super-excited about college in general too!!! I found out who my roommate is a few days ago and that just made me more excited. I think joining a soroity wil be the perfect start!

epchick 08-01-2005 06:53 PM

The makeup idea IS really good! lol. Best wishes...college is much more interesting than high school--and depending on the school more "drama free."

efcheerBB 08-02-2005 07:55 AM

Best of luck during recruitment!!

JenMarie 08-03-2005 12:36 PM

Ooooh... another Cali thread.

I thought for a moment you were at my school... but then realized that there are 6 sororities in NPC; 7 if you include us. My bad.

Good luck to you!

Jill1228 08-03-2005 12:38 PM

This MAC diva loves the Makeup names

DiamondK 08-03-2005 02:44 PM

Hi! Thanks for all of your support! I can't be too sure if there are five or six, because the greek life website is having issues right now :) But hey, if there is another one I can add another make-up brand... yay!

honeychile 08-03-2005 03:08 PM

CUTE idea for sorority names!! May your mascara be running with happiness as you make new friends! :)

ADPi Conniebama 08-03-2005 07:32 PM

GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!

I don't know what school you are going to and I don't intend to guess therefore I don't know what sororities are at your school, but, for my own entertainment I like to pick a favorite.

I PICK Lancome. GO LANCOME. Lemme give you a song for Lancome.

L - A - N - C - O - M - E
Who Loves you the most it is we
at the best sorority
L - A - N - C - O - M - E
Yea Lancome

Ok let recruitment begin

DiamondK 08-04-2005 01:07 PM

So... I have been reading a lot of recruitment stories from the past to ease my anxiety and Curlygurlys (I think that's her name.... something curly) story was wonderful! Reading her story made any doubts I had abut rush fly out the window... now I can stress out about other stuff like my roommate, moving into the dorms, and how to handle the dining hall food. I am a girl who relies on home-cooked meals. Anyways, does anyone know any other awesome recruitment stories that I can feast my eyes on? I am a writer myself, so when my recruitment time comes along, I will try to make my story a beautiful one to read!!! Thanks everyone for all of your help!!!

ALSO-- I have been reading a lot of stuff about getting recommendations, but I am really the first person in my family to consider going greek, besides my Uncle, but that doesn't really help much. My school isn't very big..... do u think not having a rec. will hurt my chances of getting in a sorority at all?

adpiucf 08-04-2005 04:27 PM

Get recommendations.

Ask your friends, family, clergy, parents of friends, etc.-- you never know who is Greek. Go online to npcwomen.org and call the phone number provided. Request contact information for your hometown's Alumnae Panhellenic. Contact the Alumnae Panhellenic President by phone and tell her you are a PNM from her town and looking for assistance with recommendations; can she help you? Alumnae Panhellenics have representatives of all the sororities and these women can write informational recs on your behalf.

Not having recs can hurt. Having recs can help or not do anything at all.

Getting recs will make you feel like you've done "one more thing" in your control to put yourself out there in a positive and proactice way.

Hi fellow Cali girl!! I'm rushing at a Cali school too this fall and I'm super excited about it! I adore your idea of using cosmetic names-- I looove all those makeup brands so I really can't be biased one way or the other. Good luck!!

DiamondK 08-04-2005 10:51 PM

Thank you so much adpiucf... I went to the NPC website and was given an e-mail address.. so that should be underway!!!! And I have some good news.... I was talking to my roommate today and she is going to go through rush too!!! Yay! So now I'll have two stories to yell you all about! I hope we both have an awesome time!

honeychile 08-04-2005 11:03 PM

Two for the price of one - Woo Hoo!!!! ;)

Buttonz 08-05-2005 02:46 PM

Good luck! I got to root for MAC, lol!

Don't count out your uncle for help. He may know sorority women from his undergraduate days that he can put you in touch with who may may be willing to write you a recommendation. If they are unable, or unwilling, to do so, then hopefully they would be able to steer you to someone who can and will. Or perhaps a contact person for the sorority who will be able to help.

DiamondK 08-08-2005 02:55 PM

Thanks for the tip...I will call my uncle and see if he can help me out!!! Also-- I am going shopping for recruitment and school clothes this Sunday...any advice on what to wear in sweltering heat???

I don't want to walk around meeting all of my potential sisters with giant sweat stains....

DiamondK 08-10-2005 01:44 PM

What I am SOOOO thankful for....

So I'm leaving for school in about two weeks..and then rush is about two weeks after that...the excitement is building. I just wanted to take a moment to say how thankful I am for a few things: 1. My family...they are being so supportive of all of my decisions about college..rush included! 2. My friends and boyfriend for being happy for the decsions I've made and am making 3. The opportunity to go to college and have a chance at joining a sorority. Many of my friends are not as lucky as me and do not have the money, time or support to go to college....least of all join a sorority. This is helping me put the whole college and rush thing into perspective so I don't get so nervous!!!!

ASUADPi 08-13-2005 07:47 PM

Good luck at rush. Just remember to be yourself and everyone will love you :)

Have fun and keep us posted!!!

DiamondK 08-17-2005 08:40 PM

UpDaTeS!!!!!

Ok! So today my roomie and I both registered for recruitment online...so it is official...yay! I'm so excited that I get to go through the whole experience with her...my roommate is so cool. I have heard all these roommate horror stories and that just isn't happening for me!!!! ALSO! I BOUGHT MY PREF DRESS! If you can't tell I'm a little obsessed with clothes. I actually brought it to work today to show everyone there. It is unique and sparkly and definitley shows the social, outgoing side of my personality.

ASUADPi 08-17-2005 08:56 PM

Yeah I'm thinking gold sounds good. If you can't find gold I would go with some really cute (but comfortable) black ones strappy thingys (LOL)

Good luck with recruitment!!!!

thetygerlily 08-19-2005 10:48 PM

Just a note about the recs- since your school's Greek system is on the smaller side (although I don't know how many women are in it altoghether, of course- I'm just going off of the number of groups) recs may not be as big of a deal as at other schools. My school had a pretty small Greek system (just three sororities) and getting a rec was always exciting- we got maybe one every other year (that I know of). It definitely helped highlight that person (after all, there was usually only one at a time!) in a positive light- if someone knows enough to get a rec, then she probably has a better understanding of the Greek system than some of the other women going through recruitment. Just thought I'd throw that out there!

Oh, and that's awesome about you and your roommate going through together. It can be really helpful to know someone else going through a similar experience- and you can have someone to talk to at night when you can't sleep because you're so excited! Maybe she can start a new thread for her own experience, too? ;-) Anyway, good luck with everything- have fun with it and be yourself!

DiamondK 08-22-2005 06:19 PM

Tomorrow I move into the dorms!!! Nervous and excited! Then rush is only two weeks away. Yay!

DiamondK 08-25-2005 11:44 PM

Tucked away in my dorm!!!!!

Ok...here I am on my own for the first time in my life....AHHHH...good thing I have an awesome roomie! I moved in a few days ago and have been soooo busy with orientation stuff! Today I went to an orientation meeting about greek life and they had sisters from each sorority introduce themselves (they couldn't say which sorority they were in because I guess they have to be quiet about it???? I guess you greekchatters know about that) and be in a sort of panel and answer all of our questions. They all seemed sooo nice and down to earth. They all talked about their individual rush experiences and what was going through their heads. Going to that meeting made me so EXCITED! Rush is in just under two weeks and my roomie and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

pinkyphimu 08-25-2005 11:51 PM

the women you met tonight were probably rho gammas and that is why they couldn't tell you where they are from. they will be the people who will help you thru recruitment.

congrats on being on your own!!! i remember that night like it was yesterday...and it was a long time ago.

myersm 08-26-2005 12:27 AM

Good luck once rush starts! I'm going through it now, and it's a wonderful experience!

BetteDavisEyes 08-29-2005 03:29 PM

Lots of luck to you! :) I hope you find a home where you'll be happy & belong.

Jill1228 08-29-2005 08:33 PM

Hey girl, it is coming up fast huh?

DiamondK 08-31-2005 07:17 PM

Rush is in one week!

Woo hoo! Rush is in one week! School has started and all of the soroities have tables out and the girls are soooo sweet! I am getting majorly excited! I'll keep you all updated!

copacabana 09-05-2005 06:01 PM

Hey there! Your rush is coming up pretty soon, isn't it? I'm totally excited for ya, good luck!!

yay cali girls:D

DiamondK 09-08-2005 02:21 PM

Rush starts tonight!!!!!!

Yay! Rush begins tonite at 5pm. I went to a meeting last nite where we met our Sigma Rho Chi's (mine are the most awesome girls ever!) and met some of the other girls in our rush group. MY ROOMIE AND I ARE IN THE SAME GROUP! We were both majorly excited about that, since like 300 girls signed up for recruitment. So, we go to five parties tonight, and we will be done at around 11pm, so I will update when I get back....which I realize is ridiculously late for some people on the East Coast... (sorry, this thread will probably torture you guys!) Well, I'm really excited and am picking out my outfit right now. Thank you all for your insight into this whole process...I feel much more prepared than I ever could have been if I hadn't stumbled upon this site! TTYL!

peanutttu 09-08-2005 02:37 PM

Good Luck tonight!!! HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

epchick 09-08-2005 04:07 PM

Good Luck tonight! I hope you have lots and lots of fun!!!

Yay for having someone you know in your rush group! Lol. None of my friends are rushing with me, but I'm grateful to have a great group of girls in my rush group---they are all becoming my friends! lol

mmcat 09-08-2005 11:43 PM

Jill1228 09-09-2005 02:22 AM

Crossing fingers for ya girlfriend! :)

DiamondK 09-09-2005 03:32 AM

Diamond K's rush DAY 1!!!! How exciting!

I am officially the happiest rushee ever. I had an amazing night-- all that I expected and more...much more. So here it goes because it is midnight and I know you don't want to listen to my babble....I'll cut to the chase:

STILA-- This was the first house I went to so I had no idea what to expect. Their decorations were so cute and there were so many smiling faces that I couldn't help but be swept away. Conversation with these girls came so naturally....when the 45 minutes was up I was shocked. Definitley one of my top choices for the night! Excellent way to start the night!!!!

DIOR-- These girls were so down to earth and I could tell they all really loved each other. I actually got a chance to ask a lot of questions....and felt empowered. It was here that I finally got the hang of the whole recruitment thing!!!! I'm keeping an open mind-- but I don't know if I really see myself in this house. We'll see what happens.

LANCOME-- I knew a bunch of sweet girls from this sorority and they all were so excited to see me and told their sisters about me. It really feels nice to have people know your name when the whole process is so anonymous sometimes. Their room was decorated with beautiful balloon arches and I could tell they spent a lot of time decorating. I felt comfortable here, but I might want more socially than what this sorority can give.

MAC-- My favorite so far. These girls had an awesome, energetic cheer as we al walked in and the decorations were beautiful. We got to sit down in comfy chairs, which was a big relief for my aching feet. I talked to a girl who is in one of my classes for a long time, and we totally got off topic, but it was AWESOME to talk to her so openly. The 45 minutes seemed like 10 in this group....the feeling....maybe...I will wait to tomorrow to see.

and finally, CLINIQUE-- the last house, and I was TIRED and so were the sorority girls (obviously) but they didn't let it show. This group shines with diversity and I love that. They are definitley not the cookie-cutter type. I talked to girls from all different backgrounds and interests...they all had one thing in common though...they loved their CLINIQUE sisters with all of their hearts. This made a very lasting impression for me. A definite fav. as well!

Tonight we only had to cut one house (which was hard enough)....so this is what I chose to do....I chose to cut DIOR and keep all the others. My roommate is leaning towards CLINIQUE and STILA, so we'll see what happens tomorrow! I'll update you guys probably a little earlier tomorrow bc the max. parties we can get invited back to is four. So....you will probably have an update tomorrow by 11. BYE!!!!!
