Dixiegirl15's Rushes @ JSU
I posted in the "Who's Rushing in Fall 2005" that I was going to be rushing but that I had just had to talk to my parents. And I did that today! Its not that I need their permission, just wanted their approval (I suppose). And I am rushing!!!!!!!!!
I move back in on August 22 and then rush starts on the 23. There are 5 sororities, I shall call them: Birds, Dogs, Fish, Rabbits, and Cats. I'll post more later....... |
Yay! A JSU rush! This thread makes me happy. :D
Also, I love the pet names for the chapters. |
Also, we have at JSU, in no particular order, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, and Zeta Tau Alpha.
|
Good luck and have fun!
|
ditto the others...get ready to strut your stuff, have fun and let your inner beauty show.

|
Baby Berry sincerely hopes that it's not her chapter you'll refer to as the Dogs, lol.
|
carnation I was thinking the same thing.
Good luck and I can't wait to hear about the search for your new home! And congrats on starting college, make sure to relax and get to know your roommates. |
I should had done this within the first post but oh well. I will tell you alittle about myself, now! I am a returning Sophmore. I wanted to go through formal recruitment last year but wasn't able to because of lack of funds. When the Spring rolled around, they had an "open house" recruitment. I basically just went through hopping to gain information about each sororities. I did recieve one bid from one group, that I liked, but still because of the lack of funds I wasn't able to accept it. (I hope that didn't put any hard feeling to the girls because I didn't accept it--because I really really wanted, too.) And now since I have worked all summer long and been saving my money like a mad cow and the thinking of being able to get a job when I move back to J'ville, I am ready to go through recruitment with not just the intentions of gaining more information about the 5 groups but, also, a bid--hopefully!

Today, I started filling out my application. That much closer to the actually process. And I am going to get the money for it tomorrow! I have already decided which clothes I want to wear for each day and which shoes to wear, too. All I have to do now is decided what jewerly to wear and how to do my hair. I am excited! :D

Good Luck with rush. Have a great time.
|
You know the good thing about a school like JSU is that a sophomore should have no problem receiving a bid. If it is anything like UNA, sophomores are actually look upon as a positive, with your college grades already known the sororities know that you are actually in college for an education.
HAVE A GREAT TIME. And don't forget to tell that sorority that offered you a bid the story about your funds and that you are still interested in enjoying formal recruitment with them in mind. (in your own word of course.) A similar thing happened to one of my sorority sisters. She went through open rush and didn't accept a bid then went through formal rush and accepted a bid from us then. (I think she just wanted the full sorority experience with formal rush and all) I will pick the DOG's (seeing as how "I don't have a dog in your race") and I don't want the DOG sorority to get a complex. So, here is my Dog rush song . . . . D - O - G we are the sisters of dog sorority we want to sing hello to you we want to sing hello to you we want to sing hello to you. D - - - - - O - - - - -G (Wow that was funny) |
I have noticed that my picking "dogs" as one of my names for the sororities has gotten some great discussion. But just to let everyone know, I picked each animal because I have one (at least) of each animal. That should make everyone at ease, some.
About the sorority who offered me a bid through the open house, I have talked to a few of their sisters, right after it happened, about the whole situation and they all seemed to understand where I was coming from. They were and still are some great girls, but just because I have recieved a bid from them in the past doesn't mean I am going into formal recruitment thinking "Oh, I'm going to get a bid from XYZ so I don't care what the others sororities have to say." I am going into this with an open-mind, as if the open house thing never happened. And besides, if I did just go in there with the attuide of "oh I already know I have a bid coming to me from XYZ," I could end up not getting one from them at all. I'm opening up the meadows, each sorority has a equal chance to graize on the meadows. (WOW, what was that? I think a tad too much of the south, lol) |

Also, my chapter had a recruitment workshop this weekend, and our CCD told us that so far only about 40 girls have signed up for recruitment at last count. So I have my fingers crossed that more people will sign up! Of course, we hear rumors like that every year, and at the last minute, a whole bunch of girls sign up. Usually, somewhere around 70-100 girls go through. :) |

Rush is just one week away. Today, I got a package containing information about rush. It basically just stated the do's and dont's, a little information about each round, and a quick summary of each chapter, oh how could I forget about the Greek Glossary. I have decided what I want to wear about four different times, but I think what I have picked out this time is final! I'm so cited about it. I'm, also, beginning to feel a tad nervous--I don't know why, I mean, I have went through it somewhat with the Open House.
|
Dixiegirl15 (I just love your name!), just keep in mind that being nervous is NORMAL! The sorority members are just as nervous, hoping to impress y'all. If you get so nervous that you can't eat, try keeping some saltines or something around so that your tummy doesn't rumble at the wrong time!
EtaPhiZTA - we have talk about our Bichons someday! Buffy actually got an email last week, inviting him to a "Bichon Bash"! The proceeds go to Small Paws Rescue. |
Bumpity bump! Rush starts at JSU in only one week! I'll be moving up on Friday, and I didn't know how long I'd have my computer up at my house, so I wanted to post one last "good luck" to your thread. Silence starts on Friday, of course, so this will be this last time I post, but I will be sending good vibes your way all through rush. All the sororities at JSU have something wonderful to offer all PNMs, so keep an open mind, wear comfortable shoes, and have fun. Good luck in finding your home, girl! :D
|
ready...set...go.
turn on the charm and have some fun. who knows who let the dogs out...or the cats for that matter. |
best wishes dixiegirl that you find your home.
|
Cheers! To finding your home!
|
I move into the dorms in the morning so the actually process of rush can start. I need to be asleep right now, but I can't my mind keeps wondering off and its not heading in the direction of "mr. sandman." I'm excited about moving back in and rush starting yet I'm beginning to think "should I even be doing this?" I guess its just me having doubts about a decision that is going to be life-changing...in a good way, if I find a home. Tomorrow night is when orienation is going to be. I'll update after it, of course.
|
And thanks for all the comments, yall!
|
Well, I just got back in. It was ok. The girls were really funny, although I don't know if they were meaning to be funny, oh well. My day starts tomorrow at 2.
|
Good luck Dixiegirl15! As someone said in another thread, the sisters are just as nervous as the PNM. Hope you find what you are looking for.
|
Good luck and have fun!

JSU recruitment
Hi Dixiegirl,
I am an alumna from a JSU sorority... just wanted to say hello and good luck! Wear comfortable shoes between parties... you'll be walking all over campus. I'll never forget the blisters I got that week because I didn't bring any! Also, have an umbrella handy, because you just never know. It poured the entire week of rush for me. Are you staying in good ol' Sparkman? ;) I had the same room for 3 years... lol. Lots of fun times and memories! Good luck and have fun! |

Well, I just got in from the first round. It was all exciting but very nerve racking. I will start with each sorority as we went to them.
Fish-The girls I talked to were all nice but there wasn't really a click with them. Cats-That girls I talked to here were, also, very nice and very friendly. I believe I clicked with them some I just don't know how much. Rabbits-Here I felt like I was on a trane because as soon as we entered the room they showed us around in a circle one right behind one another. I was expecting alot more from them. There wasn't anything there. Birds-These girls were very nice, friendly, and just all around good. Instantsly I thought I connected with them. Dogs-These girls looked too much like robots. I know they have been practing and practing but even when they came to get us, they all walked the same way. I didn't like the way they came off to me. If I had to rank them as of tonight it would be: Birds Cats Fish Rabbits Dogs Well we'll see what happends tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last of open rounds. |
a good first day...
keep smiling |
well, have another great day tomorrow!!! i am sure that as the days go on, you will get a better feeling for each house. i don't know how long the parties were, but i am guessing they were pretty short. as the parties get longer, you will be able to see more of each chapter.
|
I hope you have another good day tomorrow.
|
best wishes for a great day today!!
|
great thread. i am learning what to tell my girls by what you are telling us you like about the various chapters.
Thanks again for the thread. And, have fun tomarrow |
Just a note about not clicking with people and people seeming like robots- the first night of recruitment is usually just as nerve-wracking and scary to the sorority women as it is to the PNMs! I'm sure you've heard that before, but I just thought I'd reiterate it ;-) I know it's definitely one of the things that my group struggled with- as time went on during recruitment week we got much more comfortable, and of course had better conversations with the women because of that. That may not be the issue- maybe they just aren't the right groups for you. Just be ready to be surprised later on down the road if you like them more than you did after the first night!
Recruitment kind of like extreme sports like sky diving or bungee jumping (for me, at least, not that I've done any of them!)- I felt totally anxious and panicked at first but once I got over that, I could just slow down and enjoy the ride and the exhiliration of meeting new people, having great conversations, and finding new sisters- if not sisters in my sorority, sisters in the Greek community! I know that probably sounds weird, but it's the best way I can describe the way I felt on the other side of recruitment, recruiting for new members. Anyway, good luck with everything! I hope that you are happy with your invites- go birds! |
