Looking the part
What do you think about people who say "Oh you look like/act like you would be an Alpha or Delta and so on." People tell me that all the time and I'm not even greek.
|
I just say and what does an Alpha, or Delta, etc. act or look like?

I use to get that during undergrad. b4 I pledged. Folks always narrowed it down to the same two organizations. I thought it was rather interesting. I would actually make people explain to me why they would think such a thing. As stated earlier, it was always from people who knew me the least...futhermore, my body rejects crimson.:D |
As an interest, people would tell me that a lot. I just took it as a compliment.

Yeah, honestly sometimes I do depending on why they said it. If they say something like "because you're so smart or do so many good things for people," how could you not take that as a compliment no matter if you want to do xyz or not. But if it's something ignorant then I basically ignore it. Either way, I always say I'm really not looking to become greek. But yes, if someone says the right thing, I am definitly cheezin on the inside thinking one day..... :D |

LOOKS for the BLACKMAN!
Hotep Brothers (Sisters-BLACKWOMEN only who too are peeping),
As an ANGRY BLACK MALE I do not give a DAMN about striving to look a certain way. My daily challenge of trying to do the right thing for my family and myself is forever being challenged by a wicked KKKriminal JUST-US system, self-hating KKKnee-grows who are always willing to showcase themselves as being an "agent/plant" for the enemy, etc. I am an ANGRY BLACK MALE and am not ashamed! I strive to look the part, because I am not HAPPY, I am not CAREFREE, and I definitely am not GAY! I was BORN this way! Chicago, old school "house music" heads are sure to relish to that thumping jam. Damn it, I am having a WBMX HOT-MIX attack....HELP! "Farley, Farley, Farley, Farley, Farley, Farley...Farley, Farley, Farley, Farley, Farley, Farley,...... You ain't a really down.... playing those games you do...." |
Sheesh, I wonder why this "looking the part inquiry" was posted in here? Mods, mods? Are people on vacation? ((whistling))

Re: SteelTrap Inquiry
Hotep Brothers (Sisters too BLACKWOMEN only).
Steeltrap, DJ Frankie Knuckles came out with the "Whistle Song" in the early 90s. Did you ever hear it? Time To Jack, Jack Your Body, CHICAGO HOUSE MUSIC CLASSICS! Damn, I am going to go find my Zodiacs and drive by the Warehouse, Candy Store, Medusas, and Mendel! |

Oh I'm a female so I have gotten a little bit of almost all the NPHC sororities. You should be a xyz because you...., you look like an qrs because you..., you act like an abc because you... and so on and so on. Someone said something the other day that really rubbed me the wrong way, that's why I posted this message. I wanted to see how other people replied to these type of comments.

For one, membership in an NPHC sorority or fraternity goes much, much deeper than "looking the part." I've been on GC for more than four years, and I think the ethos we're trying to create here is that membership is about service, contributing to the betterment of people and other meaty stuff, and that looks are very small in the scheme of things. |

..............
im not sure if you lurked on these and other boards before you posted. if you did then you would have figured out that any discussion of membership and stereotypes associated with membership would be frowned upon.
i dont see why you would have been bothered by such comments. its really childish and silly. take another look at the national websites. black sorority women come in all shapes, sizes, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds AND personal experiences. it is that which i think, brings them together. it is their love for their respective organization that keeps them devoted. by bringing such a question to a board like this gives an impression that you are perhaps are not serious and are indeed one of these silly little girls that thinks membership to a black sorority is all about appearance. devote your time more to discussions with members about what brought them to Delta Sigma Theta and what keeps them devoted to their organization. work on your personal/academic goals. you will be so focused on those things that pointless conversations will not be in your radar and mental rolodex. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Quote:

I feel like my GC NPHC D4's Sorority sisters... Now that was discreet... Question 2 for unfaltering: So are you behaving in a manner appropriate for the prospective sorority you wish to think you can be extended membership into? Others are watching you from afar and KNOW your interest although you have left it "maybe" unsaid, since it got erased... Wait! How Come this is in the Alpha thread? |
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Looking the part
Question 2 for unfaltering:
So are you behaving in a manner appropriate for the prospective sorority you wish to think you can be extended membership into? Well, I don't feel as though I have done or said anything disrespectful to anyone despite the fact that this post has been misconstrued and turned into something ugly. I do not now, nor have I ever, believed that membership into ANY organization was all about looking the part. How I "behave" on GC has nothing to do with real life. I always conduct myself as a lady. I respect myself and those around me. Not because I want to join some organization but because that's who I am. As far as asking others why they chose such and such organization - what for? Why they decided to do whatever has nothing to do with me. I know why I made the decision I made and it has nothing to do with looking, talking, walking or anything else crazy like that. Others are watching you from afar and KNOW your interest although you have left it "maybe" unsaid, since it got erased... If you mean other GC members they may well be watching but that's fine with me, I have nothing to hide. As far as my interest being known, that's also fine with me. I was under the impression that this was a safe place to express your interest since just about everyone is faceless. Wait! How Come this is in the Alpha thread? Come on now. Stop. Think about it. Since when is it a rule that you have to limit yourself to posting in just one thread? It was a simple question folks. Nothing more. To anyone who read more into it, well...that's not my problem. But I'll deal with it because like ladygreek said, "every now and again we need to be entertained";) |
I agree - this is entertainment at it finest. Besides, this thread may lead folk to read some of the more thought provoking threads.
Also, good luck seeking membership to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I have a feeling you may need the support. |
