All Local Campuses

My brother is heading off to Tiffin Univ. (OH) this fall. Their campus has all local orgs. That got me thinking, are there many others?

Here in Ohio:

Tiffin
Heidelburg
Otterbein
Univ. of Rio Grande

SirHornyToad 08-09-2005 05:25 AM

University of Redlands in CA
Whittier College in Ca

33girl 08-09-2005 08:10 AM

I would just like to state that I really like the sound of the word Tiffin. :)

Grove City in PA, Cornell College in Iowa and Hope College in Michigan are also all local.

pssst..Otterbein College ;). We dropped the University sometime in the early 1900's .

oh, and here we go
Otterbein College Greek Life info page
There are some groups that have websites, most are horribly out of date...I'm sad to say that mine does not have one.

Rio_Kohitsuji 08-09-2005 01:08 PM

I am here!!! :D

We have all local SORORITIES :)

We have 2 National Fraternities, Tau Kappa Epsilon (Rho Pi) and Alpha Sigma Phi (Delta Epsilon).

We do have 2 Local Fraternities.

:D

alphaxikt 08-09-2005 03:15 PM

Pacific University in Oregon has all local organizations; there are four sororities and two fraternities. One of my friends from high school went to Pacific, but I don't think she joined a sorority.

Here's a link to their "Intergreek Council." website:

http://www.pacificu.edu/studentlife/igc/going.htm

It appears that they have veeerrrry informal recruitment! :)

SmartBlondeGPhB 08-09-2005 06:11 PM

One of the smaller Universities here in WA has all locals as well (unfortunately, they made the news). But I can't information at either of the ones I'm thinking of (Evergreen State College & St. Martin's).

g41965 08-09-2005 06:21 PM

Texas Locals

Trinty and Austin College are all local. Some locals are quite old I had a good friend at Austin College in Gamma Gamma Gamma which was founded in the early 1960's.

I think St. Martin's University used to have local sororities/fraternities, but it appears that the university forced them to disband (or at least refuses to recognize them). I searched "sororities" and "Greek Life" at their webpage and found some old articles, etc...

I grew up just a little bit south of Olympia, so I'm a geek for all things PNW. Evergreen definitely doesn't have Greek Life... ;)

My older sister went to Belmont Abbey College near Charlotte, NC, and all the sororities are local there. I think they had one or two national fraternities. They used to have Pi Kapp (I think), but they lost their charter not long before she graduated (in 1998). Something about a fire in the chapter house. (I would believe a story like that. I went to visit her when I was in high school, and those Belmont Abbey kids are crazy! Fun crazy, but still crazy!) My sister was a Zeta Delta Phi, and I went Zeta Tau Alpha, so we had a fun time, both of us being "Zetas."

I actually go to Cornell, am a member of Kappa Delta Chi here, and am on the exec council for our locals :)

D.0.7 08-29-2005 08:35 PM

We have all locals

We have all locals at Olivet College, in Olivet, Michigan.... locals rule...

PeakSP03 08-31-2005 08:53 PM

Alfred State in Alfred NY, with 7 active GLO's

ADPiAkron 08-31-2005 11:12 PM

I believe the College of Wooster in Ohio has all locals...

PhoenixAzul 09-01-2005 10:22 AM

Yep, Wooster is all-local. It's a beautiful campus, too. My fabulous roommate is from Wooster!

Here's their orgs.
Men-Sections
Beta Kappa Phi
Phi Delta Sigma
Phi Omega Sigma
Phi Sigma Alpha
Xi Chi Psi

Alpha Gamma Phi
Delta Phi Alpha
Delta Theta Psi
Epsilon Kappa Omicron
Pi Kappa
Zeta Phi Gamma

KXOisMe 11-16-2005 04:23 PM

I actually kind of confused as to it... I'm pretty sure that we are all locals, but a couple of the frats/sororities say they are natioanl (or um international for that matter).

these are who we have:

Frats:
Theta Gamma
Zeta Alpha Phi
Omega Chi
Delta Kappa Sigma

Sororities:
Pi Nu Episilon
Alpha Chi Omicron
Kappa Xi Omega (MINE!)
Delta Sigma Tau
And... Sigma Lambda Psi ( A new sorority pending approvial as of 4 pm today) Most people oppose them. But oh well.

I believe that Theta Gamma and Pi Nu are the ones who say they are national but it dosn't make sense because there is no NPC or NPHC or IFC. ::shrugs::

Theta Gamma and Pi Nu Epsilon can be considered national, even though the majority of active chapters is in NY, because they have more than one chapter and each has a national board. They are also considered international because of their Canadian chapters. Membership in NPC, NIC or NPHC is not a requirement for "national" designation.

Trivia - Pi Nu Epsilon is also an honorary music fraternity.

AOX81 11-16-2005 06:38 PM

Hope College in Michigan has all locals. :)

Ok, I'm retarded, 33girl already posted about Hope.

audaz49 11-16-2005 07:25 PM

Sigma Lambda Gamma (which is national) currently has a colony at Hope College in Michigan, so perhaps sometime soon their *all locals* status will change.

boots49EPY 11-30-2005 02:48 AM

we have 2 locals.. sigma rho upsilon (mine) and eta gamma chi... they only have 4 sisters.. hopefully they wont die... they had 2 pledges that quit during the process.. i dont know why they didnt try harder to keep them.. just curious

I'm a little confused because the website for keene has 3 local and 2 national sororities.

boots49EPY 11-30-2005 11:43 AM

these are the organizations on our campus.
Sororities
kappa gamma, which is a chapter of Kappa Delta Phi N.A.S
Sigma Rho Upsilon , mine which is disaffiliated so u wont find us on the website we have our own www.freewebs.com/sigmarhoupsilon
Eta Gamma Chi ,which is local
Phi Sigma Sigma nat'l
Delta Phi Epsilon nat'l
Tau Phi Xi local created by the TKE that died at our campus

Frats
Phi Mu Delta
Phi Kappa Omega used to be phi kappa theta
Alpha Pi Tau
Sigma Lambda Chi

Coed
Delta Nu Psi

since my organization is not affiliated with the school we will not be on there website so thats why we are the sixth sorority. we were the first sorority created at keene state in 1976, just months before Eta Gamma Chi... when i wrote my other post i forgot Tau Phi Psi was local

Question, is that the same as Rio Grande College? I know we had a Phi Sig chapter at Rio Grande College - dont know if its active or in active - but chartered in 1986. Delta Rho.

Yeparoo it is :) University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is indeed the same. I do believe we're the only school like this in the nation in which a public and private school is rolled up into one.

Yes, Phi Sigma Sigma was here, it is now the sorority Chi Omega Alpha. They started out as Athena, then to XOA, then PSS, then are now XOA. Some interesting facts about this organization and their relationship w/PSS is that the majority of their current members do not know about this information. Apparently something shady went down back in the PSS years and they gave up their charter. The two main stories are: 1. PSS Nat'l came down and disproved of the heavier members and took their charter. (I'm being serious here..heh) 2. Hazing. So pick whichever you like. :) The sorority now does not acknowledge their connection w/PSS and neither do a lot of the past members. I also know that when PSS was here the chapter was a healthy 40-50 members (which is HUGE) on this campus so I highly doubt it dealt w/numbers and we also don't have a quota system.

What is with Ohio and the locals? I'm not complaining, trust me!! but...it just seems strange that there are so many in Ohio.

(and I suppose I should mention that even Otterbein isn't "fully local", we have a chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi, and most of the NPHC groups have members here (most are city wide chapters)...but the size of the locals vs. size of the nationals is surprising. )

A lot of it has to do with Ohio having so many private universities. Way back in the past, many private universities either did not approve of having national groups or kick them off. Thus, local groups filled the need and still thrive today on many of those campuses!

tallgreekalum 02-13-2006 01:02 PM

Pomona

Pomona College in CA has only locals OFFICIALLY, but Zeta Psi has been there for a while, just not recognized by the college.

Quala67 02-13-2006 04:56 PM

Actually, several of the schools listed have at least one National GLO....Alpha Phi Omega!

For instance, Emory & Henry College has the Pi Omicron chapter of APO. Alfred has the Epsilon Gamma chapter of APO, Heidelberg has the Alpha Gamma Omicron chapter of APO, Bethany College just chartered an APO chapter. At least one other school not discussed, Ferrum College, has locals and the Phi Omicron chapter of APO.

MJo19 04-16-2006 07:49 PM

I know ths thread is old, but where I went to school, Capital University, in Ohio they had all local social GLOs. They did have APO and PMA, Sinfonia and SAI fraternities for music. They also had national honoraries, but only local socials.

*Hey PhoenixAzul ~from a grad of your "crosstown rival"!*

D.0.7 04-17-2006 03:20 PM

Olivet College has all local fraternities, and its very afforable...
