Live in Japan and climbed Mt. Fuji

ZTAMich 07-21-2005 01:54 PM

I was part of a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetary in DC when I was in Middle School. Only 4 of us were chosen out of the whole 6th grade class. Thinking about that day still gives me goosey bumps!

I've climbed Masada; floated in the dead sea, parasailed in the Red Sea seeing three countries at once, hiked in the Negev, climbed the Golan Heights, and walked the streets of Old Jerusalem.

While serving in the military on a supply ship, got to write nasty messeges to Bin Laden and Osama on the bombs with sharpee markers before we sent the bombs to the air craft carrier....

AGDee 07-21-2005 07:32 PM

I was at the 5th game of the World Series in 1984 when the Tigers won it. That was a trip!

White water rafting was one of the most fun experiences I ever had.

I saw Bill Clinton speak at a local library during the 1996 campaign. Just seeing the amount of security that they went through for such an event was amazing to me.

My life has been pretty mundane other than that (which is fine with me!)

jb1617 07-21-2005 07:37 PM

When I was 6months old I led the grand march on the Bozo Show (with my mother, no I wasnt walking yet) In case you dont know, the Bozo Show as a local children's TV show in the Chicagoland area.

And I met Orville Redenbacher, back when he was alive, after you shook his hand, his people gave you a sticker that said "I met Orville Redenbacher"

I have...

...studied abroad at Oxford University.
...held an "Advanced Internship" at Walt Disney World.
...competed at Winter Guard International world championships.
...stayed in an overwater bungalow in Tahiti.

I was featured on a medical talk show when I was 6 years old. I don't know if anyone who lived in the bay area in the 80s remembers when Dr. Dean Edell had his own show. They did a feature on diabetics.

DeltAlum 07-21-2005 07:41 PM

Directed (for television) the world wide pool feed of a Papal Mass.

Quite a few other things, but that's the most memorable.

Been to five SuperBowls.

Then-President Clinton was one of the commencement speakers when I received my master's degree (1998). Security was insane. We had to take off our caps because the metal in the tassel was sufficient to trigger the metal detectors.

So, cool stuff I've done...

- Heard then-Pres. Clinton speak in person (see above)
- Performed at Lincoln Center
- Traveled all over the world

And other stuff...

docetboy 07-21-2005 08:42 PM

I've also heard Hank Aaron speak at my brother's commencement from Bradley University.

I spent most of my summer last year in Italy and went to all the famous places in Venice, Rome, Pisa, Florence, etc. Even got to see David about two weeks after he got cleaned, it was awesome.

And in 6th grade my parents bought raffle tickets at a school fundraiser and put my brother's name on one ticket and mine on the other. Guess who won $2500? ;) :D My brother was PISSED hahaha.

But other than that, not much cool stuff happening here.

When you jumped, did you do it from that tall building in Aukland? When I was there they wouldn't shutup about it. I don't have the cajonas to do it anyway. I fell in love with the sail boats there instead.

He came to my high school my freshmen year and security was out of control. they shut down the school for the day before the event so we got out that day adn then we all went and watched him sign the education bill or something that he was doing so we got out of school that day as well. Yeah we weren't complaining.

Ron Harper bought my drinks one night at a bar.

Politically, I've
-had my picture taken with 2 Presidents, one Vice-President.
-had my picture taken with 1 astronaut (Sen. John Glenn), met countless more senators & families (esp. Kennedys).
-Got to hear Sen. Byrd play his fiddle!
-Went out (once) with one former president's son.
-Made out in the East Room (not with the above).
-Was on the Presidential Advance Team.

Otherwise:
-Met Walter Cronkite.
-Lived in a building which was structurally damaged by the fall of the WTC, and have great photos from its deck of our deck & vice versa.
-Had Michael Keaton & Steve Martin's mothers as geriatric clients. Michael Keaton's mother was awesome! Her RN said, "You have such a wonderful son!" and she responded, "I have nine wonderful children!" Classy lady, she.
-Am mentioned in a somewhat well-known song.
-Was interviewed by the BBC on genealogy.
-Met Simon Wiesenthal.
-Unknowingly gave sexual "advice" to a former prostitute!

Seems like there's a lot more, but my list isn't here. Life is as fun as you make it.

ADPiZXalum 07-21-2005 10:45 PM

I received a private tour of the Parliament building of Canada in Ottawa. In the Senate Chamber I got to sit in the throne chair that the queen sits in when she's here.

And I met Mike Tyson. It's kinda hard to shake someone's hand while covering your ears.

I've met a good amount of famous people: Darius McCrary (from Family Matters), Lori Beth Denburg (from All That), Lil' Zane, Chico (Spencer on Half & Half), New Edition (sorry, Bobby wasn't there), Brandi Chastain...there's some I've never met, but was within touching distance of: John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Al Sharpton, 98 degrees (back when they were still cool:) )...

Probably a few others, but I don't remember anymore than that at the moment.

docetboy 07-22-2005 01:55 AM

I went to the victory celebration for the 2005 National Basketball Association Champion San Antonio Spurs held at the Alamodome and watched the city and the team celebrate a third championship from upper deck, first row center, then honked my way down commerce street with friends on the way home.

I debated about whether saying giving birth to my two kids. While it was, personally, the two most amazing days of my life, I wasn't sure whether it fit this type of list (and so many women end up doing it!). However, on a personal level, the two births are the most important things I've ever done.

Walter Cronkite spoke at my brother's graduation from the U of Michigan. He was a great speaker and I thought at the time that he should run for President.

When I saw Clinton, it was on the lawn of a library. The area around the library was closed off for two days preceding the event, all trash dumpsters in nearby apartments were scoured for explosives, no cars could park anywhere near it. While he talked, there were Secret Service with machine guns in every window of the library and on the roof. There were Secret Service all over the audience (the only ones dressed in suits in 95 degree weather and talking into their ties). The biggie was the helicopter with a soldier hanging down, M-16 in his hands. I was so preoccupied with watching all the Secret Service that I barely remember what was said! I can't imagine what the security is like Post 9/11 when the President speaks!

---performed with Mark Jones, "Grandpa" Jones' son (I sang and played guitar, he played banjo)

The 2 shape-note songs are in the movie, Idumea in the battle scene at the beginning, and I'm Going Home in the church scene before the boys go to war....

---met Nicole C. Mullen while working a concert venue in college

---have met all members of IIIrd Tyme Out, and have sung with Greg Luck, former fiddle player(now with the Circuit Riders), who also wrote The Healing Kind for LeAnn Womack.

I was on 2 Play-Doh boxes when I was little and a Play-Doh Catalog. I was also in commercials for like Lazarus and McAlpins, and a couple random catalogs.
One of the commercials I did, was shot on my 5th birthday and they had hired carolers (sp?) b/c it was a Christmas commercial, and they all sang Happy Birthday to me. Not really a big deal, but it meant a lot to me.
ETA: Here is one of my Play Doh Boxes... the other one, I can't get to scan.
