Rock Star INXS

Has anyone been watching this? What are your thoughts?

AOIIalum 08-03-2005 07:19 AM

I'm addicted, but I've been a fan since the day "our band, INXS" orignally hit the US. Counting down the days until MiG is pronounced as "right for our band, INXS".

Yes, I've been reading way too much of the TWoP board for this show :)

DZHBrown 08-03-2005 01:05 PM

I've been watching the last couple of episodes. I like Jordis as a musician, but not for INXS. I think I'm leaning towards JD.

VH1Classic showed a bunch of live INXS clips with interview footage tonight on "Classic in Concert". I'd forgotten just how much I really adored them until I saw the live stuff.

The live stuff reinforced (in my mind) that MiG will be the one singing "Don't Change" to close out RS:INXS. Jordis is just too good for OB:INXS, especially after her performances this week. Even so, I hope she stays around until the end just so I can watch her for free. Maybe she can hire the house band and go on tour with them after the show. I'd seriously pay to see that. I'll put the long shot on Marty to win-place-show.

FYI--the Monday night shows are no longer on CBS due to ratings. The Monday night show will be on VH1 on Sunday nights now. Clear as mud, right? Tuesday and Wednesdays will remain (for now) on CBS. Also, the show is scheduled to end two weeks earlier than originally planned. Guess we should expect another double elim at some point?

dzandiloo 08-09-2005 12:58 PM

Jordis is my fave, but I agree that she's too good for OB:INXS. I would buy her rendition of "The Man Who Sold the World" today if it were available.

I am torn between MiG, Marty & Ty...but I know Ty is not right for OB:INXS. The Aussie thing may just push MiG over the top b/c I think talent-wise they are pretty similar.

I missed the mansion ep this week (TIVO didn't catch the switch to VH1), but heard JD was his usual manipulative freak self. Does he seriously not realize he is one of the tooliest tools who ever tooled? He's so full of himself... (Sorry Heather!!! I can't stand him!!!)

I'm watching live tonight so I can vote (haven't voted before, but think I need to now that it's getting down to the wire!)

It's available (as are most of the other songs from the show)

Oh, he was overly toolish. Words cannot even describe it. Too bad you didn't see the whole Human Being/Being Human tattoo insanity.

Thanks! I will be downloading it as soon as I get home!

smiley21 08-09-2005 06:49 PM

I have been watching. I want JD to win because he is hot.;)

BGKdLady 08-09-2005 08:27 PM

I'm not a Jordis fan for the INXS spot, but she will have a great career on her own. I love her version of "The Man Who...". So is Monday night always going to be on VH1 from now on? We didn't get to catch it.

AOIIalum 08-09-2005 08:31 PM

Yes, the Monday night show has moved to Sunday nights on VH1. It's repeated a few times each week, and worth watching the rerun just to see what an ultra maroon JD is (sorry, girls, but I can't stand him).

If you're in Canada, I hear the Monday night show is still on Mondays. Not sure on details though.

dzandiloo 08-09-2005 11:19 PM

So who's going to get the encore tomorrow night? I liked Marty's unplugged "Mr. Brightside" and Ty's "No Woman, No Cry." The level of talent on this show constantly amazes me. Jordis was off her game--she looked like she was looking for something in the crowd the whole time & not really focused. But still good...

I think the bottom 3 will be Jessica, Brandon and ???
Deanna wasn't the worst, but I'm growing tired of her... Jessica's going home, and it looked like she knows it. From OB:INXS' comments, it sounds like they've made up their minds about Brandon & Jessica not being right...I wonder if tomorrow will be another 2 person elimination?

Tippiechick 08-09-2005 11:27 PM

Probably.

They've just reduced the show by two weeks or two eliminations. One of those extra eliminations can from Daphna/Heather and the other will most likely be tomorrow night with Brandon/Jessica. That would solve their problem completely.

butterfly2001nc 08-09-2005 11:43 PM

love this show! Ty's performance was soooo good! I also really like Mig's performance. Jordis was a little off but she's still bad ass

AOIIalum 08-10-2005 07:15 AM

For some reason, I'm thinking the bottom three will be Jessica, Brandon and Deanna. It wouldn't surprise me if Deanna isn't in the bottom three and someone else was. Expect the double elim for tonight, unless Mark Burnett wants the "drama" of doing a double-elim towards the end of the series. He'd be the type to take 3 rawkers into the final week instead of only two.

Suzie is definitely upping her game at the right time. She's still not roit for OB:INXS, but I'm enjoying her performances more and more.

Jordis was definitely off, but even an off Jordis was great. Hope MiG does something slow and pretty next week, and gets his first choice to boot. Ty was incredible. Loved his performance top to bottom. It was clear from the OB:INXS shots that they really liked it. That made me smile.

Live show spoilers pretty much said that Marty's rehearsal was with the full OB:House, and was the single best performance of the series to date. Period. Wish we could see that! Maybe he'll get the encore and do it with OB:House instead of acoustic. Love Love LOVE Kirk's idea to have next week acoustic. Wonder if that would really happen?

blueangel 08-11-2005 06:56 AM

I LOVE this show!!! I just wish they would show a bit more "behind the scenes" stuff from the mansion.

My favorites (in order) are:

1. Jordis
2. Mig
3. Marty
4. Suzie

As fabulous as Jordis is, somehow, I can't see INXS with a female lead-- because it would totally change their look and sound. (But, in my opinon.. it would be an improvement!) She's absolutely hynotic when she sings.

I have a feeling Mig is going to win.

I don't get why Ty is still there. I think he's pretty bad, and definately not right for the band. He's a bit pompous too-- can't take constructive criticism.

FHwku 08-11-2005 02:20 PM

i think Mig is the best fit for the band.

brandon was like a poor version of Chris Robinson.

AOIIalum 08-23-2005 11:17 PM

If Susie is in the bottom three again after tonight, I'll cry. She was better than everyone else on the stage (with the exception of Our Band, House during Dream On and Proud Mary.)

That is all.

blueangel 08-24-2005 09:02 AM

She's good, but I really like Jordas the best.

I like Mig and Marty about equal. I think those will be the top four.

I don't get why Ty is there. He's just not a good fit for the band.

blueangel 08-26-2005 09:21 PM

OK, I've now changed my mind. I think Marty is awesome! He really grows on you. I like Mig too. Wow.. it would be tough to choose between the two, but right now, I'm giving the edge to Marty.

blueangel 08-28-2005 11:30 AM

Either I'm the only one watching this show, or I'm just talking to myself! :)

I just wanted to share that due to low ratings, they only run the show on Tues. and Wednesdays now-- HOWEVER-- I discovered that they show the Mansion stuff on VHS. Check your listings.

I love the mansion parts-- they had Mig's wife flown in from London to surprise him as a reward for getting to do the encore. You can tell he's SO in love with her.. he's really a sweet guy.

I hope they show more of Marty next time. I really like him and am rooting for him. But I do like Mig too... wish they could have co-lead singers! :D But, I still have to give the edge to Marty.

AOIIalum 08-28-2005 01:12 PM

You're not the only one watching.

The Save Suzie campaign worked, hurrah! Now, if you read Andrew's most recent blog entry, I'd say it looks like Ty will be the next out. We'll see from there. Don't rule out co-lead singers either. I think it's going to break down like this over the next few weeks:

5. Ty
Best singer in the competition. I'd pay to see him on stage any day. But I'm sorry, he's just not right our O'BINXS.

4. JD
Sure, RS:INXS is a TV show and is edited to death. Even so, I just can't see O'BINXS wanting to deal with drama again. They did it once, and I just don't expect them to knowingly ask for more. Personally, I adore INXS and hope to high heaven he's gone soon. IMHO, JD is just not right for MY band INXS!

3. Suzie
I love her. I do, and I'd be pleased if she won the whole enchilada, or even "tied" with either of the next 2 competitors. She kicks serious ass on INXS tunes and has been consistently improving each week. O'BINXS have repeatedly said that they are open to having a female lead singer. She'd do well.

2. Marty
If I wasn't on the Marty train before last Wednesday, I am now. His version of Don't Change was brilliant in so many ways. Is he a perfect singer? Nope, not even close. Is he incredibly mesmerizing on stage? Heck yeah!!! If INXS really wants to move forward, he's their man. (I have to admit, I really really want to see Marty's interpretation of This Time one of these days.) Regardless of the outcome, I think we'll see a lot more of Marty Casey in the future.

1. MiG
Nope, no conspiracy theories here, although they are out there. He's the whole package, he's an experienced pro, he's comfortable on stage and knows what it takes. I love to watch him perform. I'd kill to see him do something like Simple Simon or Send a Message or even Hear That Sound just to see what he could do with them. I think he's ultimate right for my band, INXS. I hope O'BINXS agrees with me :D

I just don't want this one to end, and I never thought I'd EVER say that about a reality TV show. I thought it was ridiculous when I heard that INXS was doing the show, because how on earth would you replace MH? Now, I'm hooked beyond belief. I've been replacing my vinyl for CDs, scoping out the videos online, and enjoying every glimpse of Garry Gary and Jon our producers give us.

AOIIalum 08-28-2005 08:51 PM

FINALLY! A mansion show worth watching. The highlights:

1. The RS:hamsters listening to a Deanna track after her Timination this week. Certainly seems they think highly of her. More tears.

2. It's a good thing to actually prepare before going into the studio to lay down vocals for a new INXS song. The five who were shown on camera practicing sounded good to great. The one who was shown sleeping and admitted he didn't practice at all sounded like it. Andrew and Jon were not pleased. If the editing is any indication then maybe it's finally GOOD BYE JD!

3. Nothing about the City Walk performance from Friday night. Maybe next time?

4. Someone is spending some serious dinero for song rights this week. Lennon, McCartney, QUEEN, Stones, Elvis and FLOYD. Even better, 2 of the songs will be done with a choir. Seriously. (Monkey.)

5. MiG and Suzie both want QUEEN, JD wants Elvis, Jordis' eyes are huge at the song choices. After much deliberation (and Ty reminding MiG that QUEEN just may not be the right choice for him at this point.)

Jordis-- Imagine (Sigh. She should be brilliant with this, but who knows what will happen.)

MiG-- Live & Let Die (Be still my heart, please do the Sir Paul and not the GNR version Miggy.)

Suzie - Bohemian Rhapsody (First song w/ choir. They focused on her OB:H rehearsal, it's either going to be bloody brilliant or the worst train wreck of the show.)

TY - Can't Always Get What You Want (Oooh! Ty with the choir!)

JD--Suspicious Minds (can you say Elvis Impersonation Part 2? Thought you could.)

and

Marty--WISH YOU WERE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

blueangel 08-30-2005 06:43 AM

I can't wait.. it's on again tonight!

I really wish I had been taping the performances from the beginning. I would love to have those from Jordis, Mig and Marty.(ESPECIALLY Marty! He's quite easy on the eyes!)

AOIIalum 08-30-2005 10:57 AM

FYI--you can get videos of most if not all performance clips at the official site. Dave's site (6767.com) also links to performance archives as well.

Get prepared to be shocked folks, I agree with blueangel. Marty rocks, nuff said. He reminds me of another lead singer I adore, one Mr. Robin Zander. Sigh. </fangirl>

Although, if INXS is getting ready to put out dreck like "Us" then I think Marty should come in 2nd. Come on Andrew, you've GOT to have better stuff than that for us. We've waited so many years now. Please, pretty please.

blueangel 08-31-2005 11:50 AM

Marty definately rules. He showed yet more range last night with his rendition of "Wish You Were Here". That man is amazing. He's a mixture of Kurt Cobain, Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger. I can't get enough of him.

Not only is his voice incredible, but his stage presence. And.. just look in to his eyes.. they haunt.

Mig was good, but just doesn't have the voice range of Marty. He missed quite a few notes last night.

Susie did a fine rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, but still didn't stir any passion.

Jordis was excellent as usual.. but belongs more as a solist than a front to a band. She was my early favorite, but over the weeks, I have just been truly won over by Marty.

Sorry Ty fans, but I have to turn the sound down when he's on. I just don't like him.

One thing that disturbs me, is the voting. You can vote as many times as you want. Is that fair? So, it's not who the fans like the best, but who has a DSL line, and who has the patience to sit for the most time in the four hour window and click your choice over and over again.

P.S. Thanks for the download sites. Unfortunately, I'm still on a dial-up and can't download.

AOIIalum 08-31-2005 04:13 PM

Well, since it just looks like it's the two of us on this thread :) Now that I've watched...

Jordis-- Imagine (Sigh. She should be brilliant with this, but who knows what will happen.)

Nope, sorry honey, that wasn't all that and a box of chocolates. I do like her, but it just wasn't worth that level of Binxie worship. YMMV. Daddy Unga rocks.

MiG-- Live & Let Die (Be still my heart, please do the Sir Paul and not the GNR version Miggy.)

Oh Miggy, Miggy. I love you, and if spoilerage is true then you were the new deal before the show ever began. So close, but darn it, he just didn't quite pull it off. I think we need to see him singing INXS from here on out, if for no other reason than I want him to.

Suzie - Bohemian Rhapsody (First song w/ choir. They focused on her OB:H rehearsal, it's either going to be bloody brilliant or the worst train wreck of the show.)

It still wouldn't surprise me if Suzie isn't still standing at the end, but it wasn't brilliant and it wasn't a train wreck. Let's see her sing some sexy INXS tune and see if we buy it or not.

TY - Can't Always Get What You Want (Oooh! Ty with the choir!)

Hey, you know what? (What?) I liked that! I did! Loved the little "what you need, what you need" toss in. Ty is JNRFOBINXS, but that's okay. Can't wait to find out what he really is right for.

JD--Suspicious Minds (can you say Elvis Impersonation Part 2? Thought you could.)

Hey! I got one right! Good bye JD.

Marty--WISH YOU WERE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see...if the Binxies just don't get it I'll cry. They want someone to move them into the future? CHECK! Someone who can perform and command a stage? CHECK! Someone who doesn't necessarily remind us of MH? CHECKMATE!

I mean, I voted for THREE FREAKING HOURS for that performance (yep, high speed here). That was brilliant. Marty's done virtually everything they've asked of him, he responds well to criticism, and he brings his A game every time.

I love Marty so much at this point that not only want him in the bottom 3, I want the Binxies to give him something like Beautiful Girl. Game, set, match.

BGKdLady 08-31-2005 04:30 PM

I'm still watching...love it! Last night's show was so good!

Ty...very steady consistant voice for me. But I can't see him being the front man for this band. He would do very well on Broadway

JD...didn't care for the Elvis song. Don't care for his attitude, but don't hate him either. Kind of 'eh...

Marty...did a great job on that song, and I do like him, but I'm tired of just watching him stand there. It was called for during that song, but he's done that for the past several weeks. Getting boring.

Jordis...over her... that's it...I'm just over her.

Mig...energetic enjoyable performance. Vocals weren't the best, but he made up for it in presentation.

Suzie...same as Mig.. I loved her performance. Watched it a couple more times today.

I see Suzie and Mig being in the final w/ Mig winning.

a.e.B.O.T. 08-31-2005 04:53 PM

Jordis made me cry last night... love her

but no one could steal suzie's thunder from last night... AWESOME

blueangel 09-01-2005 07:51 AM

Marty is running away with this competition. I so enjoyed his encore of "Wish You Were Here." Some of the INXS band members were wiping tears from their eyes-- it was so moving. From what I've read, what we didn't hear, is that on Tuesday night's show-- the crowd went so wild, they were clapping and cheering his performance for more than two straight minutes until David Navarro had to finally quiet everyone down. Marty owns this contest!

I have never made it a secret that I don't care for Ty's voice. But, I had thought he was a decent person. I was quite disappointed, however, in Ty's closing statements. He said, "It hurts me a little that as a people that I belong to that we’re not appreciated enough in rock n’ roll that I could put out the performances that I put out and wind up in the bottom three for this many weeks. Because I know what I did, and so that hurts me and I can’t pretend that I don’t know why it is.”

How dare he pull out the "race card?" That was just poor sportsmanship.. and he has probably now ruined any chances of getting work in the future. Come on... Jordis has only been in the bottom three ONCE (last night-- for the first time) and she is "a people you belong to."

Now, it's time for J.D. to go. He didn't learn the INXS lyrics in Tuesday's show, and he can't even take ownership for that. Instead, he puts blame on Susie for telling it like it was. He's an obnoxious person. I hope to see him eliminated next week.

For fellow Marty fans... great new interview:
http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/m...-home_features

ROCK ON, MARTY! :D

AOIIalum 09-01-2005 05:13 PM

Hopefully it was just frustration coming through in Ty's remarks. He did well on Tuesday and although he didn't remember "my", he was the best of the B3 performance wise last night.

For someone who dreams of being the last RS:INXS, JD blew my song. Yes, my song, thankyouverymuch. Sure, it's not a super hit but if you're a casual INXS fan you'll know This Time.

It's starting to look like you're B3 you stay there. Well, unless you're Suzie. Also, the grassy knollers noticed that whoever goes 2nd on Wednesdays goes home and that theory was supported again last night.

Marty's encore was so much better last night! I don't know if he's really right for the Binxies, but oh, that was glorious. No matter what happens, I think we're watching the birth of RS:MC.

I might get flamed for this post, But you know what? I tend to agree with him--and i'm not black. There has to be something MORE to why he was in the bottom 3 for a few weeks. I personally thought JD had to go...i didnt like him, and he wasnt a very strong performer (to me). I loved Ty, he was one of the only ones to show versatility in his performance. Yes, Jordis is black, I don't think that had anything to do with it though. Ty might not have looked like INXS material, but I am pretty dissapointed they would let him go. He was one of the strongest competitors. Even though I dont like when people assume, there had to be AT LEAST a little truth behind the fact that he was sent home b/c he was black. I had this discussion with my family (who also watch Rock Star: INXS) and they seem to think the same. We ALL were rooting for Ty...its sad.

But on that note, I do also think Marty is really strong! He's my mom's favorite, I think he has the look, but I dont think he's the best. Susie's performance was AWESOME!!!!! I loved it!

Hopefully they'll make the right choice (JD) for elimination next week!

Sistermadly 09-02-2005 11:43 AM

Is Jordis black? I thought she was pacific islander.

blueangel 09-02-2005 12:41 PM

Ty was not right for INXS, plain and simple. It had nothing to do with his race. It had all to do with his music style. He's a gospel/R&B singer. INXS is not a gospel/R&B band.

To use race as an excuse for why he was sent home was low and uncalled for. It was poor sportsmanship. It made him look like a baby, and he probably ruined any chances of getting hired in the near future anywhere else.

How DARE he imply that people didn't vote for him because of his skin color? I guess he forgot that he lasted a whole lot longer than the nine white people eliminated off before him.

I didn't vote for him because I don't like his voice. As I stated many times, I would turn down the sound whenever he came on. I don't care if he's black, green or purple... I don't like his voice. I didn't like Deanna's either, and turned down the sound for her performances too... and she's white. Race has nothing to do with it. Sound quality and being "right" for INXS does.

I like INXS and have a few of their CDs. I certainly would not buy one with Ty fronting the band. But I also wouldn't buy one with JD fronting the band either.. and he's white.

Maybe when JD gets voted out, he can now go on a tirade about being discriminated against because he's Canadian. And if Mig gets voted out, he can go on a tirade about being discriminated against because he's a minority from the Phillipines. If Suzie gets voted out, she can claim that it's because she's a woman... and if Marty gets voted out (gawd forbid!!!) , he can blame it on being a man.

Ty... you got voted out because you just weren't right for INXS. That's all.

Sistermadly 09-02-2005 01:18 PM

And if you know anything about the history of rock music, you'll know that rock and roll music got its start in the blues and R&B tradition. In other words, white rock stars heard the music that black musicians were making, loved it, and co-opted it for their own.

I'm not saying that what Ty said is right (cause I stopped watching this train wreck a few weeks ago), but just because someone sings R&B/gospel, it doesn't mean that this person can't make the leap to rock music. Little Richard, anyone? Ray Charles? Jimi Hendrix? Tina Turner? Can I get an amen?

My issue with Ty wasn't that he was an R&B singer, it was that he always felt a little... "show tunes" to me. It was in his phrasing and how he carried himself on stage. In that respect, I'll agree that while he was the best singer, he was wrong for INXS.

blueangel 09-02-2005 01:28 PM

That is absolutely correct, Sistermadly... rock had it's roots in blues and R&B. My favorite band of all time (The Beatles) often stated that they received their influence in blues and R&B.

However... the absolutely amazing Ray Charles, for example, certainly wouldn't be appropriate as front man to the Beatles (if all were alive). It is a different style and a different sound.

Ty was unsuccessful in his attempt to make that jump. In addition to his gospel background, he had too much of a "broadway" theatrical presence. He would smile through even the saddest songs. And that Mohawk... definately not right for INXS...nor was that wierd thing he kept doing with his tongue!

But to sum it up-- Gospel and Rock are different styles. Ty did not prove to Inxs that he could make the jump to rock. His style was not right for the band. It had nothing to do with race. I'm sure Pavorotti, one of the greatest Opera singers of all time, would be voted out as well! Great singer, but not right for INXS!

Well said! I still love his voice but he's just not roit :)

The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering if any of them are RFOBINXS.

If you missed the VH-1 show this week, oh boy, you missed a show. Here's the highlights of the reality show:

TyRiffic tribute, lots of sniffling around the table post Tylimination.

Levi's (product pimping) Rockstar modeling

"Eyes! Eyes!"

"Do I look too sexy?" "No!" (funniest line of series to date)

Happy birthday cake fight AND resulting shower scene.

Two songs on the Tuesday show this week, courtesy of Dell (product pimping). One is that viewer's choice encore, and everyone is doing the wildcard choice. The other song choice is an original tune, which means we get TREES on Tuesday night! TREES!

Do y'all want Tuesday night spoilers around here or not, since the Tuesday show tapes on Sunday nights?

We got one shot
