Famous person you WISH was in your GLO

OK, just for fun, if you can think of any person, living or dead (as long as they lived while your GLO was in existence), who you would LOVE to have in your GLO, who would it be? No fair choosing people who really are/were in another GLO!

I would love to be able to say these women are AOIIs:

Vivien Leigh (Gone With the Wind)
Paula Deen (she's the southern lady on Food Network - I love how she talks!)
Janet Evans (Olympic swimmer)
Monica Seles (tennis player)

I'm sure there are others...

honeychile 07-07-2005 11:27 AM

Well, ADPi doesn't have Vivien Leigh, but we do have the actress who played Maybelle Maywether, Mary Anderson! :)

I'd also like to have the bragging rights for:

Shirley Temple (double threat, as an actress AND ambassador!)
Delta Burke (to go along with Jean Smart)
Rita Wilson (Mrs. Tom Hanks)
Meg Ryan (for When Harry Met Sally alone!)
Rosalyn Carter
Elizabeth (or Emily) Post
Maeve Binchy
Christine Whitman
Miss America 2006, 2007, 2008... ;)

There are a LOT of fine women who are already "taken", such as Elizabeth Dole, Anne Rivers Sidden, and the Bush ladies! I'd also LOVE to know which sorority Florence King was in!

sugar and spice 07-07-2005 11:59 AM

I kind of wish the rumors were true and we really DID have Grace Kelly.

Haha.

I thought at least one of the Post ladies is a Theta?
or is that one of those rumor ones

I just looked it up (internet is so handy). It seems like I had heard that when I was at LSU:(

PhrozenGod01 07-07-2005 01:44 PM

It would be really tight if Aaron McGruder (the creator of the Boondocks comic strip) was an Alpha... but I heard he's not too fond of Greek life all that much. I love all my bruhs, but it would be cool to have Homer Simpson or something. I'd make him an honorary... really, I would.

Homer Simpson??? Are you serious??Your founder's are rolling as you type

Anyway, I'd like to have Oprah and the William's sisters (we've already got one we just need the other two):D

WenD08 07-07-2005 03:29 PM

DST4A00,

which one of the 3 do you all have? i'm just curious...

non-greek newby 07-07-2005 03:36 PM

I'm not in a GLO, but I wouldn't mind being sisters with Maya Angelou. I think she's taken though. (AKA?)

PhiPsiRuss 07-07-2005 03:45 PM

The Beatles (all of them)
Winston Churchill
Arthur C. Clark
Miles Davis
Albert Einstein
Tom Hanks
Rudy Giuliani
Pink Floyd (all of them)
Colin Powell
J. R. R. Tolkien

Now I need to figure out why I put so many Englishmen on my list.

PhrozenGod01 07-07-2005 04:43 PM

Homer's not Black, but he's Gold. Plus, he got to go into space and was a monorail conductor. What more could you want? He is extremely intelligent, but there is a blue crayon lodged deep into his brain through his nose, clouding his gravitas. Don't hate on Homer. He doesn't hate anyone... except Flanders.

Frat, you're right, Aaron McGruder doesn't like Greeks too well, but he does "seem" like an Alpha to me.

Rudey 07-07-2005 06:53 PM

Justin Timberlake and the Wu-Tang Clan will be drafted by AEPi.

Over and over again it's been rumored that Madonna, Raquel Welch (Tejada? is her real name I think), Carly Simon, and Carole King were AGDs.

It would be cool to have those ladies in the Fraternity. They're all so wonderful in what they do!

SmartBlondeGPhB 07-07-2005 10:10 PM

No one, unless they are actually going to CONTRIBUTE after they get out of college............

James 07-07-2005 10:28 PM

The oldest one--can't think of her name. She MIPed in one of the DC alumnae chapters, two years ago I believe.

To be very honest, there isn't a famous person I wish was a Delta that isn't already. But there is at least one I wish wasn't - LOL.

SurfinDBeach 07-07-2005 11:40 PM

Caesar...

Yeah, that was a great idea! Julius Caesar!

Thomas Jefferson and George Washington would be nice...

Ulysses S. Grant definitely... :)

Some are connected to a (our) 'mother organization", but yeah...

We have so many dang famous and/or prominent people - it's hard to complain... Any more and ... well...

Are you referring to Venus? She has a degree?

PhoenixAzul 07-08-2005 12:02 AM

I'm very proud to say that several of our renowned music professors are Tau Delta alumnae!

I wish that I could claim my favorite art history professor, but she's allready claimed by Theta Nu ! Go figure, a Greenwhich Girl becoming an art professor...when your motto is "Artes Honorabit" (she shall honor the arts)...

I would like to have Sally Ride and Amber Neben as TD alumns too. Although Neben might have been in a GLO...she went to Univ. of Nebraska before becoming a kick ass cyclist.

No. There were two older than Venus and Serena. One was killed recently--remember. This is the eldest one.

msn4med1975 07-08-2005 10:07 AM

Yetunde Price was her name before she was killed in 2003, but there are like five sisters total, including Yetunde so if we are gonna collect em we got FOUR more to get. I think Venus and Serena are the babies of the group.

WenD08 07-08-2005 11:15 AM

oh, okay. as for Venus and Serena, aren't they Jehovah's Witnesses? i've read they were raised that way and JWs don't do the greek-thing. that being the case, no one will have them as Honorary members.

Taualumna 07-08-2005 11:23 AM

Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (aka the "Queen Mum")

lake 07-08-2005 11:32 AM

Laura Ingalls Wilder (love those Little House books!)
Priscilla Presley (she rocks!! - and Elvis rocked and rolled)
Nancy Drew (I know she's not real, but this IS just for fun!)

:)

They were raised JW but there are a whole host of things they have done that are in a bit of contradiction with the faith, from my knowledge of it which is limited I'll admit, so it could be a down the line thing for them but you may be right as well.

ROTFL

I hope it doesn't conflict with his membership in the Stonecutters. :D

Ditto on that front. I guess to me it doesn't matter if you have famous members or not if they don't do anything for the organization.

You two just enjoy sucking the fun out of EVERYTHING, don't you?

lake -- If some organization can fake-claim Betty Crocker, I think we should be able to claim Nancy Drew. I know Ned Nickerson was in a fraternity, at least in the earlier books -- did it ever have a name?

OMG!! I forgot about Ned Nickerson's fraternity!! I can't remember if it was ever mentioned by name, but I DO remember in one of the books that Nancy was kidnapped by some bad guys after a fraternity formal.

I'll have to see if I can find my dusty, musty old Nancy Drew books...

:D

You asked, we answered. Don't ask the question if you don't really want to know the answer.

irishpipes 07-08-2005 01:47 PM

OMG!!! I totally wanted to list Nancy Drew but I thought everyone would think I was nuts! I am an avid collector.

Ned Nickerson is a member of Omega Chi Epsilon at Emerson College (but, in some books it is Chi Omega Epsilon!!!.)

slayerzbt 07-08-2005 06:28 PM

I for one think this is absolute bulls***. I don't really wish that any one person in particular is/was a member of my GLO just because said person is famous, fictional or not. Hell the founders of H&R Block were members of my GLO but I don't go hitting up the local branch for donations.

Eh, it's just a thread, not a big deal. I don't think anyone should get all heated about it.

PhrozenGod01 07-08-2005 10:05 PM

I'd take Touissant L'Overture. He beat Napoleon. Or Jarome Iglinla.
