what is a "big" class for you?
Curious to see what the average pledge or rush class sizes out. What is your average for the fall in comparison to the spring. I joined last fall in a 3 person rush class. A few years ago there was a spring class of 10 people which we considered big.
My pledge class was 63, quota for our school was 62 (we had a junior in my pledge class). The schools farther South have what I consider to be big pledge classes
I would consider 30-40 being big. Average is around 15-25ish. Small, like 7 or less.
My pledge class was around 60 people, though not everyone was initiated. That's pretty large. They're usually anywhere from 25-50 people.
The sororities at IU generally have pledge classes between 40-50 people or so, depending on that year's quota. |
Average is 6 to 8... big would be anything in the double digits...
Obviously bigger schools have bigger pledge classes.....Our school 6-8 is normal anything lower then six is small (I had 7 in mine) and double digits is above average( last semester we had 10 thats was really good)
Normal formal recruitment new member classes here at Kent are 20-25 girls, so anything above that is pretty big for us. Our spring COB groups are anywhere from 6-10 depending on the chapter.
Average for us is 60-65... which makes sense as quota usually falls somewhere in there. I don't really know what "big" would be... because, to me, that seems like a lot of girls already!
Big for the fraternities is probably 32ish, for the sororities, 55 would be big.
As for average size it depends on the chapter. For us it's about 22, for another chapter it might be 18, another 12, another 28 or 30. The lackluster chapters definitely have trouble keeping up. |
The average size for us is about 20. My new member class was 24.
Average class for us is 30-35. Mine was 50 starting, 41 initiated and the smallest since I pledged was 17 last spring. We are the biggest for our section.
30-40 would be big for us here at Indiana. Fall classes are usually 25-30. Spring classes are usually around 10-20ish
5 is a relatively large pledge class, however, if you make it in the double digits that's Godlike.
Well, I think the biggest on our campus this year was 22, which was 18 (quota) plus 4 off quota. Ours was 8 girls plus 1 off quota, which was HUGE for us, considering my class of 9 was the largest class in years. We had been having classes of 4 and what have you, but now we're growing and kicking ass. The guys...one always gets like 30 some odd guys, and the rest always average about 8.
I am from a small chapter on a campus where greek life is less than welcomed.
My pledge class was 6. The largest since I have been a member is 16. The average is about 4-6 new members. |
The year I pledged there were 60 girls in my pledge class, I believe 56 was the total initiated that semester too.
I joined in spring with a class of 5 all together. For my school average is becoming about 22 for fall. When I joined average for fall was about 13-17
The year I pledged there were 66 women in my pledge class. We had 71 new members the following year. Since quota is so high at my school, I guess I couldn't really consider anything to be a large pledge class. Maybe over 100 would be large at my school!
Quota at my school when I pledged was 32. That was with 6 sororities and about 210 girls going through. For a while, my school had only 5 chapters due to a closure and had pledge classes of upwards of 50+. Big difference! Now that there are six chapters again, classes are smaller...but with the size of my school and its greek life, I would say anything over 50 is large in my book.
If I had gone to a state school, I'm sure I would think 50 was nothing. |
class size
In the 4 years I was active our pledge classes went like this:
Fall 1984 24 Spring 1985 5 Fall 1985 8 Spring 1986 6 Fall 1986 13 Spring 1987 6 Fall 1987 11 Spring 1988 5 Fall 1988 12 Spring 1989 5 |

Geography is really irrelevant to new member (NOT PLEDGE) class sizes. Like another post said really its dependant on the size of the university and mostly the strength of the greek system. most larger universities will have about 30-60 in a new member class. Med size schools are usually 15-25 and smaller schools about 10-15 ina formal recruitment period. BUT I have seen small universities with 5 NPC chapters and have new member classes of like 40 for the fall b.c 20% or more of the women are greek... spring or COR (COB'ing) is usually smaller like 3-10 girls but one of my chapters does poor on formal and rocks out on COB to like 5 formal girls and 25 for informal :) |
A normal pledge class for us is 3-5 member. I would say anything that reaches 10+ would be big

30 is pretty big around here. Average Fall classes are usually 10-25 new members.
Quota is typically 15-16 for formal recruitment. A "big" pledge class for us would be anything approaching 20 (18-20) and a "small" pledge class (for formal recruitment) would be 11-12.
We've been bordering on "small" formal pledge classes the past two years; however, we've been doing really well in fall informal recruitment. We've had "big" informal classes (10 and 13) the past two years, while both other houses on campus have had "small" ones (5-6). |
At our school it has many ranges, a big pledge class for our house would be 30+ guys in fall and 15+ guys in the spring. But that is just a few house on campus, other house 10+ is big for fall
