How much do you spend for a night out?

Just wondering what a night at the bars cost where everyone else lives? My friends in other towns say I have things incredibly cheap here!

The two night I normally go out are Wednesday and Saturday.

Wednesday is Ladies night and Ladies have free cover and drink free until 11:00. I usually tip the bartenders and get at least one drink which is $4 after 11:00. So most Wednesday I spend btwn $4- $10.

Saturdays are $5 cover and free wells (for everyone) until 11:00. On Saturdays last call is at 12:00 so I normally only spend btwn $7-10 and leave pretty hammered most nights.

So how expensive are the bars in your neck of the woods?

I drop big money when we go out in San Francisco. Lately I've been getting in places without having to pay a cover but the prices for drinks can be insane.

I like going out when I'm back in Wisconsin because if I spend there what I spend here I can pretty much buy for the entire crew all night long.

Up here in Toronto:
(All prices in Canadian dollars :))

At pubs drinks (pints and bar rail) $4-7, with wines, single malts and fancier drinks being more
At bars drinks the prices are around the same, but with bottles being much more common and around $3-4 usually.
At clubs drinks usually begin at around $4 and go up from there... with cover also starting a $5 and going up as well.

Alcohol sales begin at 11:00AM and last call is 2:00AM - pubs and bars usually fill starting at 10PM, and Clubs around 11PM.

As for myself I usually spend about $40-60 on drinks in a fun night out... but longer nights mean more spent - unfortunately I'm not a cheap drunk :(

winneythepooh7 06-25-2005 11:09 AM

I usually spend at least $100 on a night out. That usually includes dinner and a cab ride home though since I am not a big drinker anymore. I prefer to go out for a nice dinner now, and have a couple drinks, which as I age usually is all it takes to get me tipsy ;).

You're not kidding ! The most expensive cover I've paid I think was $40 (and I'm sure there are places with higher ones) I don't think I've really paid less than five dollars for any drink and I have paid $15 for a mixed drink. Not to mention the parking of someone ends up being DD rather than taking public trans, and cabs here are INSANE too it cost me like 35 dollars to go maybe 4 miles.

ZTAngel 06-25-2005 12:41 PM

Cover is usually about $10 and up. Drinks are usually around $10 (especially if I drink Martinis). So I usually drop big bucks when I go out.

AchtungBaby80 06-25-2005 01:29 PM

I'm ashamed to say that I really don't know how much drinks are around here, since they're usually bought for me. :p I'd guess around $4 to $5, though.

The most expensive cover I've ever had to pay was $15, and that was at a music club where there was a live show. Bar cover is typically around $5, but the places I usually go to don't charge cover.

Rudey 06-25-2005 05:22 PM

I don't know what it comes out to per person anymore. I think maybe 100 or more in Chicago. Anyway, usually one person pays for everything including bottle service and whore bartenders that will be more attentive for a few more bucks haha.

Last call is 12? Yikes!

There are very few places here that have a cover. I'd say I spend 10-15 dollars on an average night, and probably closer to 25-30 on nights that we go out to nicer bars or martini bars or I buy drinks for anyone. There have probably been nights where I dropped close to fifty but I doubt I've ever gone over that. Drinks can be anything from $1 rail night at the college bars to $9-12 at the nicer places.

I'm kind of a lightweight these days though, so I can get drunk off of two or three drinks if they're strong.

Only on Saturday's because nowhere is allowed to sell alcohol on Sundays (including grocery stores). The bar doesn't close until about 1:30 though and then most people go to an after-party at someones apt.

The rest of the week last call is around 1:30 or so, with the bars closing at 2:00.

This is very similar to what I spend. The bar we go to most often has dollar drafts every night, so we rarely spend that much. But if we go out to some other places in Boston, then I can probably spend up to $50, and that's usually including a cab ride home.

Am I just that big of a lush?

On an average night drinking with my friends I'll spend $40-$60. They'll probably spend $100-$150. This is in a bar where I'm getting cheaper drinks& not buying girls drinks. On a great night where I don't have to drive at all I'll spend $100+& that still doesn't include girl's drinks.

Then again we have clubs and bars that don't close until 6am, so these are long nights especially compared to some other folks [closing at 12am WTF???]. I also don't carry a tip card around & I normally tip heavily so as to not wait for my drinks& to get hooked up.

Last night I was at the bar from 9-12 and spent $30, with tip& not being charged for all my drinks, so I think I did well.

I drink beer so it's not the liquor prices, although I did spend $200 drinking red bull& vodka's all night long.

Times everything by three if you and I end up getting together.

chideltjen 06-25-2005 08:27 PM

I try not to spend more than $20. I don't drink much or I end up being sober driver. But cover on average is $10, sometimes higher after 11 pm. Drinks have gotten more expensive. They range anywhere from $4 to $9. I've paid $7 for a Chambord Sour that was maybe less than 4 oz.

Partying in SF? I usually don't drink because it ain't worth it. Cover alone can be $25.

Munchkin03 06-25-2005 09:56 PM

Since the places that tend to charge covers are dance clubs, and I don't go to those, I don't pay a cover.

Depending on the place, it can be anywhere from $6-10 a drink.

FAB*SpiceySpice 06-25-2005 10:09 PM

Depending on the day and what bar you go to you can spend anywhere from 60 bucks to 5 bucks for the whole night. On Thursday night it's .25 draws at one bar and $6 buckets of beer at another place. I need like 4 beers and I'm done, I've gotten to be much more of a lightweight in my old age. Cover isn't too bad around here, the most expensive I've seen is $5.

The most money I ever spent was on a Thursday night at the bar with the quarter beers, but I decided to drink vodka tonics (like twenty of them I guess) and shots which obviously not a good idea.

I don't like to spend money when I go out though, so I usually find someone to do it for me. ;)

Coramoor 06-25-2005 10:35 PM

Depends on the amount of pre-gaming. Usually my roommate and I will get a case of beer and a bottle of crown and finish that, and then head down to the bars.

Last call is at 3 and the bar closes at 3:30. With a good pre-game in, I usually spend about a bill. $5 for cover and ~5 per drink. If I go to the bar sober, ~$150. Although, if I hit the specials I can get pretty drunk off $20. Drink and drown, or 25 cent bottles and the like.

I'm Jealous

Wow,

I must say I'm super jealous of all the cheap nights y'all have. I spent about $120 tonight and I'm not even really drunk at this point (I do have a rather ridiculousy high tolerance for the happy sauce). The place I was at had a 50 cent cover for students and 50 cent half pints till 11pm, but after gunning the first few wobbly pops before eleven it was all $4.50 drinks and like $6 shots of tequila. Needless to say with cabs and such, things add up rather quickly.

sugar and spice 06-26-2005 08:35 AM

I'm all  that some of you can spend 100 bucks a night outside of places like San Francisco/New York. Maybe this is just a guy/girl thing, but I have no clue how anyone could spend over 100 a night when you're drinking five dollar drinks.

It's really not difficult, in the slightest.

I think it is a guy/girl thing then, 'cause I'd be dead at that point. Even with very weak drinks I don't think I could handle more than eight.

Then again, you're talking to the girl that passed out by 11:30 after spending zero money last night (I forgot I'm a lightweight now, and I'm sure the Jager didn't help) so maybe it's just me.

ADqtPiMel 06-26-2005 05:31 PM

When I lived in Ohio, I'd usually spend about $10 - 20 a night at the bars, depending on how many drinks I could get for free. 21 + women usually don't have to pay cover in Oxford.

DC is a whole 'nother animal. We save money by going out earlier to avoid cover and avoiding dance clubs (which isn't really my scene anyway.) I also leave early enough to take the Metro home so I don't have to pay for a cab. I had a tea-infused martini at one bar that was $12, and man was it good, but I can't justify paying for more than one of those.

James 06-26-2005 06:14 PM

Guys tend to buy more drinks for other people also. Also we tend to tip a lot per drink. Or at least my acquaintances did.

I am not sure what girls tipped, but they tended to buy a lot less drinks for other people. In my experience of course.

A lot of times going out I would buy a lot more drinks for other people than I would drink myself, which could rack up some serious money even at drink special prices.

Rounds of shots add up.

It is possible in St. Louis.

Rio_Kohitsuji 06-26-2005 11:16 PM

I spend, err, my boy spends around $20-$30 for me :) But then again, that's without the pregame. With pregame, it's only around $10-$15. Oh, this is in Athens, whoo!

mmcat 06-26-2005 11:59 PM

my neighborhood saloon is quite good in terms of prices. i can get all the happiness i need for $6 to $8 for an evening.

AOPIHottie 06-27-2005 01:38 AM

There is a bar out here that has 5 cent Natty lights, so on our cheap nights we go there, you can spent 5 bucks and be done!!!

But usually I spend between 20-30. I only go to places w/ cover on special occasions. Every place in Denton is free to get in, that I go to anyway.

cashmoney 06-27-2005 07:44 PM

I don't keep track of how much money I spend when I go out anymore. I don't think about it the more I drink. I don't pay drink by drink.....usually at any given club at least 3 of us have tabs going all at once. Its good and bad. Most of the time it allows you and everyone else to keep getting drunk without thinking how high the tabs are. Its a real shocker how quickly it adds up. When the bar closes, if you're not bludgen drunk, it's a sobering moment when the bar tab comes out to be around $150+ after tip. And I didn't even try to think about how much money I spent back in my Tony Montana days  I remember waking up once on the couch seeing 3 girls in bras and thongs and an assload of powder on the table. For a minute I thought I was dreaming about being in the Rockies in December with a bunch of nakked ZTAs.

-That would have been one awesome dream. :D

lifesaver 06-27-2005 10:49 PM

Going out for a nite on the town usually costs me about $35 or so. That includes pregaming and the obligitory stop at Pat O's for a Hurricane if were downtown.

However there are variables. Friday night just involved drinking at my buddy's bar and there was only the $5 cover. Drank free all night long.

Saturday nite included stops at 4 clubs and 2 tiddy bars. Had the beautiful lady with me all night long (the tiddy bars were here idea, I swear) and I bought all her drinks. I spent about $100, and consider that I got off pretty cheap.

The Truth 06-28-2005 05:17 PM

Nothing. I make sure I go out with ballers.:D Any wealthy men reading this?????
