copacabana's Fall '05 Recruitment Story!!

Hi Everybody!!
I decided to start my rush thread really early because I'm way excited about recruitment!:D I will be in my second year of college this fall and it will be my second time rushing, so I have an idea of what I'm getting myself into this time.;) I went through spring rush last year, but there weren't many groups rushing at my school and honestly, I didn't feel that 24 hours was a long enough time to get to know all of the groups and make such a big decision! I attend a school on the west coast, in California (for the sake of anonymity, I'm not going to say which school until rush is over:) ).

I just recieved my rush packet yesterday! I knew most of the information in it already, though I did learn what the rush dates were for my school.

There is a lot to be done for rush-- even though I know I don't really NEED to make a huge deal out of it, it's a great excuse to go shopping and get my hair done all nice and everything.:p

So...even though recruitment is not for another...3ish months (that far away?!?) I have a feeling it's gonna go really fast! I'll keep posting with updates whenever they occur-- though if you have any recruitment advice for me (in general or for a CA rush) feel free to post it here. I read through the rush boards and they were very helpful:)

FSUZeta 06-21-2005 12:05 PM

best wishes to you.

dukedg 06-22-2005 11:55 AM

Good luck and have fun!

One piece of advice I can give for recruitment anywhere is have a few interesting questions or topics ready to talk about just in case the conversation turns dry. You are much more likely to click with a sister you meet (and have her remember you) if you talk about something other than where you live, what you're majoring in or your hometown :)

efcheerBB 06-22-2005 02:39 PM

Good luck with recruitment. Have fun and enjoy it!!

mmcat 06-23-2005 09:12 AM

all the best to you...
get ready to have some fun.

KSUViolet06 06-29-2005 03:04 PM

Best of luck!

Taualumna 06-29-2005 03:12 PM

Good luck! :)

Buttonz 06-30-2005 11:18 AM

Good luck! Rush threads seem to be creeping up earlier and earlier each year (not like I'm complaining)!

girliegator 07-03-2005 12:58 PM

Good luck to you too!! Here's hoping that rush goes well for both of us - and I'm sure it will. :)

gogoaphi 07-04-2005 12:12 PM

A California recruitment thread ... YEA!!!! Good luck to you and have a blast ... between you and me ... ANY event is a good excuse to get a pedicure, do the hair, etc. Enjoy!

Jill1228 07-05-2005 11:22 PM

I have added you to this thread:

and included the link to your recrutiment story :)

Thanks so much for all the encouragement and advice! I'm trying not to count down the days until school starts and rush begins, but I'm really excited about rushing and learning more about the greek organizations (they all sound so interesting to me!) I've been looking at a lot of the national websites for the orgs on my campus, and I love how each organization has such a rich and unique history, but they all hold similar ideals and principles.

emily2228 07-07-2005 02:51 PM

Best of luck to you! I am looking forward to reading about your experience!

Emily

Good luck with recruitment.

You don't need to tell the chapters, I was just curious how many are on the campus?

Seriously, the best of luck with fall recruitment. I can't even imagine going to 12+ houses. :) More power to you!!!! :D

I'm very excited that your a californian, being arizonian, your really close. LOL.

copacabana 07-11-2005 01:50 AM

There are nine NPC sororities on campus that will be rushing this fall. I've been thinking of naming them after fruits, since they're simple to remember (and I like almost all fruits:) ), sooo...looks like we're going to have:
Apple
Orange
Banana
Mango
Strawberry
Grape
Watermelon
Pineapple
Peach
(actual names of orgs will be posted after recruitment occurs)

I'm working on getting some recs right now. I'm pretty certain I can easily get recs for Peach and Watermelon, and I'm trying to get in touch with an alumna from Strawberry right now. I'd like to get a few more recs though, so I guess I have my work cut out for me.

And after writing this, I'm totally craving a fruit smoothie:p

adpiucf 07-11-2005 09:59 AM

Umm, I think she's done a great job of being discrete and not revealing much information about herself or the campus. If someone is lurking trying to determine who a PNM is and where she is rushing... then that person has misplaced priorities.

I'm sure PNM's appreciate this "warning," but it seems a bit unwarranted.

ASUADPi 07-11-2005 11:28 AM

I definately have to agree with adpiucf, she has done an excellent job being discrete.

There are hundreds of schools in CA. I'm going to guess about 50% have a greek life of some kind. But of that a handful will probably have the same number of chapters (9 in this case).

Copacabana, please don't worry. I know for me I can't even hazard a guess what school you go too. I, for one, do not have the time required to research the schools in CA just to make a guess on the one you go too.

Again, don't worry. You didn't list the school and you gave each sorority a code name.

And you know what, don't worry if it comes out what school you go too. We don't know your code. We don't know what each fruit stands for. Quite a few girls did name the school they were going to last year, but they nicknamed the sororities, so you had no idea until the very end which chapter was what.

Your gonna have an awesome time!!! Just have fun and don't worry. :D

JenMarie 07-11-2005 11:56 AM

I don't know where in CA you'll be, but be prepared for the weather. Especially if you are inland where it tends to be REALLY warm.

Good luck to you though. Cali recruitment threads are fun to watch.

I was gonna say prepare to be cold, because whenever I go to Cali, no matter the time of year, I'm cold at some point. LOL.

I'd say bring a cardigan. That way if you get cold you can slip it on and if you get warm you can slip it off. Maybe even like a 3/4 sleeve.

WCUgirl 07-11-2005 12:29 PM

I'm rooting for banana, strawberry and watermelon, since those are my three favorite fruits. Good luck! :)

copacabana 07-11-2005 09:46 PM

Thanks for the warning, Lurksalot, but I know what I'm doing. If people really want to go through all of the schools in CA to find out how many sororities there are at each of them and what they are so that they can say "OMG she goes to XYZ school!"...I don't really think it's time well spent, but it's no skin off my back if someone wants to do that. I know fully well that there are many people from GLOs at my school who use this board and I intend to use discretion when posting my rush experience.

If I could do clapping hands, I would.

I applaud you for your confidence and you sound like you have a good head on your shoulders.

Oh my...........:D :D :D I thought I was warped.:p

I personally like mango.

But wherever it is (since I barely have enough time for my own stuff) it sure would make a good fruit salad...............

adpiucf 07-12-2005 12:25 PM

What about graper-berry and apple-melon? ;)

Best of luck! Keep us posted!

gogoaphi 07-12-2005 03:44 PM

I'm rooting for PEACH because our girl Copa sounds like a "Peach" of a girl! he he he he :)

JenMarie 07-12-2005 08:01 PM

Pineapple, mango, and strawberry are in my favorite Jamba Juices so I'll root for them. :D

ASUADPi, yeah... in some parts along the coast, Cali can be REALLY cold. But up here in Sacramento, it get MIGHTY warm in the fall. And when you live up here all the time, going to some place like the bay area is definitely a shocker.

Copa... bottom line, wear layers. :)

ADPi Conniebama 07-16-2005 09:15 PM

I say strawberry all of the way. Then again I am on a low carb diet so that is the only choice you gave me.

Hey, I know recruitment is very busy, but (she types selfishly) can you type a little something everyday. I love to read the day to day stuff better then the "wrap" up all in one entry, thing.

I mean like, "I went to banana today and their house was cool and the girls seemed like fun", kind of stuff.

This information helps me with my "recruitment thread" addiction, without giving me an overdose.

Oh yea

HAVE FUN.

honeychile 07-16-2005 09:32 PM

Good luck with Recruitment - hope you have a Peachy time! :)

For sure! I like the threads that do day-by-day updates better...it adds a little more suspense to everything. Recruitment thread addicts, there is nothing to fear!:D

copacabana 07-24-2005 02:33 AM

Just to add, my recruitment is right around the same time as KiwiJuice08's recruitment! So everyone will definitely be getting a good dose of recruitment stories.:D

I went shopping yesterday and bought a dress for pref!! It's very cute and I'm so so so so looking forward to rush.

Xylochick216 07-24-2005 09:57 AM

Good luck with recruitment :)

Lily1909 07-28-2005 08:04 PM

Hope your recruitment is fantastic!

DiamondK 08-05-2005 11:15 AM

Hello my cali friend!!! When is your recruitment?? It will be interesting to follow each ther's west coast stories!!!

OleMissGlitter 08-05-2005 11:28 AM

Good luck and remember to have lots of fun!

copacabana 08-10-2005 04:34 AM

Since people have been asking, my recruitment is during the second week of September. Although I'm looking forward to it, I'm kind of anxious about it too-- I keep having weird dreams about joining different sororities!

It's nice to see so many recruitment threads! I don't feel so alone anymore:)

DiamondK 08-10-2005 01:33 PM

That's really funny...I had one of those crazy dreams a few nights ago...it must be a part of PNM syndrome..ha ha!

girliegator 08-10-2005 03:09 PM

lol girls I'm glad I'm not alone - I had a crazy PNM dream too! I don't know what house I was in (that's probably a good thing!), but it was a good dream at least.

copacabana 08-28-2005 03:07 AM

Well, if everyone is nervous, then I guess we're all in the same boat!

So I just finished moving all of my stuff in and getting my internet set up. I'm really excited for school to start and rush to get going! I've been talking with the people who wrote recs for me and apparently, none of them have been notified by their respective chapters that they recieved the recommendations, even though the chapters were given a (SASE) postcard to send back to my rec-writers. I'm a little disappointed, but maybe one will come back in the next couple of days.
