The Kappa League
I WAS JUST CURIOUS TO KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE KAPPA LEAGUE AND DO THEY HAVE TOP PRIORITY OVER EVERYBODY ESLE
|
If either one of my teen-aged sons (dam when did that happen  )were a part of the Kappa League I would hope that it wouldn't allow them to have any special privileges or priority over anyone else.
You may not get many responses to this one Soror. |

IMO, Kappa League members get no special consideration. Through Kappa League one can be under the positive influence of Kappa Men. I still think however that Kappa League or not one needs to do research to decide one if they want to be in a frat, and two if they do which one is the right one for them. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the Divine 9 frats, but you have to decide which one is right for you.
I've strayed from the topic. But no they shouldn't get special considertation. I can't speak for every brother though. |
I agree with NUPE4LIFE
I agree with NUPE4LIFE!
I don't feel just because someone is involved in the Kappa League that they should get special treatment. I would hope that participating in the Kappa League, would give some insight into our great bond. But I think each individual should research an determine which organization fits them when they feel the time is right to make that decision. |
well im in Kappa League and the first thing they told us after our probate thing was that we werent kappas and that we wouldnt be given any special treatment if we decided to pledge.just my 19.70 worth
|
Probate? Wow...
Well, I was in Kappa League in Birmingham, AL and I never wanted to be a Kappa. My advice to you man is take it for what its worth. A Community Service and Mentoring program. I know a lot of good Kappas that I learned a lot from. High School affiliation affords you no benefits in college. Remember that. Whether you choose Alpha, Kappa, Omega, Sigma, or even *shock* NOTHING in college it's still a lonely road to walk as a black man in America and a LOT of hard work ahead of you if you want to be a GOOD BLACK MAN. Learn from your KL experience. I know I did and I'm a better man for it. (BUT I'm STILL AN ALPHA!!!!! A-Phiiiiiii 00000006...sorry, I had to do it.) |
YES WE HAD A PROBATE LOL
it was right after school in the bus parking lot and there were more people there tnan at the sigma probate at ncat.:p (seriously we did tho) |
HS 'frats' and 'sororities' (the term they used...don't jump on me) were of decent size when I was in HS in 02 in Birmingham, but never any probates.

BTW did somebody call it a frat? Maybe it was in the other thread. *runs off to look.* Quote:

You know. I am having a real problem with these HS frats and sororities. Why? Because y'all are too young to be engaged in such foolishness and may be messing up your chances to be selected or invited to be a member of the Divine 9 (that's if your behind goes to college). I usually don't post long replies to threads so here goes.
At my high school, there was a high school step team sponsored by a woman that wanted to be an AKA and a DST. She thought it would be cute if she started her own little sorority at our school. They had jackets, a call, and even strolled at pep rallies. And yes, they had a Hell Night and hazed. Well, one girl that was on line my last year in high school was beaten to a pulp. Her mother stepped in and of course, the step team (i.e., sorority) was disbanded and the teacher was fired. Now do you think this stopped the teacher. No. She has now formed a new branch of this sorority at my university and is now calling it a "christian sorority." Most of the girls that participated in this mess. Well, let's just say only one is a member of a NPHC sorority but she had to go throught a lot to prove herself. Advice: Be careful what you do in high school. It will come back to haunt you. |
i'm not editing shit
there were more people at ours |

i know exactly what group you're talking about and when they used to walk around the campus claiming that org, they got the side-eye from me! |
^^
I'm sure T.A.D. filled you in on the history. Their website is a HOT AZZ MESS! That woman should be ashamed of herself. To KL: It seems you neglected to read anything I wrote about things coming back to haunt you. In the words of Furious Styles, "You'll learn. Oh yeah, YOU GONNA LEARN!" |

unspokenone25 ~ I don't think KLer was refering to you, I think he was talking about my statement to edit his post. Anyway, very good warning from you. The organization you are refering to sounds IMO like a bunch of mess. You cannot be in a legitamate frat/sorority in HS point blank. GLOs, black or white, are collegiate and post collegiate organizations. Kappa Leauge, Archonettes, Delta Gems, Sigma Beta Club, and all organizations like them (as I have perceived) never claimed to be greeks. Just young men and women who have been selected to witness how amazing and benefical GLOs can be for the community. |
Um. I peeped his reference which is why I made my comment. Okay.
|
KAPPA LEAGUE IS NOT A FRATERNITY!!!!

We know KL isn't a frat! But people often make the mistake of calling HS such as KL a frat such as in this thread: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=112 |
Actually what's funny is that the KL that I was a part of was dropped by the local alumni chapter. Instead of letting is stop us and destroy our bond, we decided to get with our advisors and parents and incorporate under the state of Alabama as a fraternal organization. We continued with the stepteam, peer tutoring, mentoring, and weekend brotherhood outings. We're planning a reunion soon. Many are quite succesful now and we owe alot of it to that bond we created and the friendships we made.

Okay, I have been reading this thread and I wasn't going to respond, but things have to be said.
Young KappaLeaguer, one thing that you must understand is that at this point is that discretion and humility are key. If you are interested in the bond, fantastic. But there is order for everything. Get into college first, and focus on your grades first. KAPsi is not an average fraternity, so there is no room for average members. At that point is when you should communicate your interest in the bond. Not before you are enrolled in college, and DEFINITELY not on the internet. Good luck with whatever you do. |

Also, I am not saying he is going to change his mind, but some people may decide that they would like to pursue another organization, that is one big reason for keeping your interest on the low. However, some people hang themselves. |

Fall back. You're not getting the benefit of the Guide Right program if all you're focused on is K A Psi...in life. By all means, have your ambitions and dreams young man. Practice a little more humility and reverence for the organization you want though. Also realize that life is about more than being greek. If the only thing in your life is XYZ organization...then you HONESTLY don't have much. |
PG, he told me what was what...especially since I am his cuz!?!

KappaLeagr, while for obvious reasons I don't endorse how you're going about your aspirations for Kappa, I do admire your zeal and drive to acheive this goal. But be sure you don't end up cutting yourself off at the knees in the process. The posters here gave some good advice, especially PhrozenGenius. The ideal position you want to be in is that where you are not pursuing Kappa per se, nor vice versa, but rather, you and Kappa "meet" at a mutually agreeable point, so to speak. But PG said it best: Fall back (but don't lose your zeal). The best thing you can do right now is not to be so concerned about Kappa and just work on finishing high school. |
