When you were little, what did you want to be?
When I was 2, I wanted to be a doctor
When I was 8, I wanted to teach When I was 14, I wanted to be a lawyer When I was 17, I wanted to be an actress, and then a talent agent When I was 22, wanted to be married (with kids.....and forget about the whole feminist thingie) I'm now 25, not a doctor, not a teacher, not a lawyer, not an actress or a talent agent and DEFINITELY not married. In fact, I'm still in school.....but I'll be out soon. |
I always wanted to be a veterinarian and a journalist. My ideal job was to work for National Geographic (which I determined by age 10).
Now, I'm heading toward being a college professor. |
Well when I was little I wanted to be an archeologist or a teacher... This lasted up until I was 14... Then I decided I wanted to be an astronomer... So now I have my BS in Physics and Astronomy and will be starting this fall towards my phd in Space and Planetary Sciences... I guess I was a pretty determined middle schooler...

Famous performer of any sort, dancer, singer, actor, didn't matter, I did all three and LOVED IT (still do) As I got older, I did kinda persue that, had an agent, did the LA thing, but as we all know, you must have something to fall back on.
Now I'm working on being a music lawyer. I'm not one of those people who switches things up too much in life, I pretty much know what I want and always have. |
I actually always wanted to be an elementary school teacher but my mom who was one talked me out of it. Back when I started college especially, and didn't foresee myself living in NYC there weren't many teaching jobs in the area I came from. I still think about sometimes going into Special Education. For some reason I don't see myself staying in Social Work forever unless I get out of the mental health field altogether!

when i was younger i wanted to be a doctor (no particular type)
now i'm working on my master's in psychology and aiming for my Ph.D. so i guess i'll be a "doctor" eventually... - marissa |
I wanted to drive the Zamboni during Boston Bruins games.
|
i used to want to be a chemical engineer when i was like 10...
....now i'm a chemical engineer, lol how boring! |
When I was in fifth grade, I wanted to be a speech pathologist/audiologist.
During high school, I wanted to work for the UN and eventually be the ambassador to Germany. Now, I don't know  . Guess I still have two more years of college to figure it out . I'm leaning towards Public Administration/Law, but I would LOVE to be a Greek Life Coordinator. |
When I was little, I wanted to be a doctor, just like mommy and daddy.
When I got a bit older (around 8) I started working with computers, and I realized that that was what I wanted to do for a living. I stuck with that. |
I always wanted to be an actress - never persued (sp?) it past high school though - maybe I should try again?
Said I wanted to be a computer scientist when I was 10, then changed my mind for a while. Ended up with a degree in MIS, and cannot stand it. Guess I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my life... |
I wanted to be an actress, a detective for the FBI, a real estate agent, an accountant, a city planner, an author, President of the US, and a lawyer.
Still working on the lawyer thing, although lately I've had my doubts. I just need to find a sugar daddy! |
When I was in 1st and 2nd grade, I wanted to be a teacher.
When I was in 3rd through 5th grade, I wanted to be a dentist. From middle school through high school, I wanted to be a doctor. I took a physics class my senior year in high school and it made me miserable. After realizing physics was a required course for all pre-med students, I decided that I wanted nothing to do with the medical field! I went into college with a major completely the opposite of anything medical; I majored in Marketing. I think I'm one of the few students who never once changed their major once after starting their program! I now do Marketing and Public Relations. I still have a dream to one day be a women's fashion buyer for a large, high-end department store such as Bloomingdale's, Saks, or Neiman's. |
I wanted to be a crossing guard, a priest, or a judge. I guess law school is the next logical step?
|
When I was in 2nd grade I wanted to be a chemist. I dressed up like one for career day in 2nd grade.
In 5th-9th, I wanted to be a physical therapist. In 10th-11th, I wanted to be a journalist. In 12th, I busted out with Marine Biologist from no where. In college, I wanted to be a phycologist (person who studies algae). Now, I'm going to be a teacher. Something I always said I hated. But I think I still might go back and get my phd in marine science and study algae. I like algae. |
I've always wanted to be a writer.
|
When I was younger I once told my Aunt that I wanted to be a part-time astronaut and a part-time vet :D
In high school I wanted to be a Forensic Investigator, now I'm going to be a teacher, heh. |
I really don't remember what I wanted to be when I was little. Probably a teacher as that's what my mom was, or an interior designer becuase I was forever decorating and redecorating my Barbie house. I went to college not really knowing what I wanted to major in, but thought maybe I would get a secondary education degree so I could teach high school. I got into Journalism after the death of Princess Diana (I remember sitting in the computer lab in my dorm late at night and reading all the articles online and thinking how cool it was that people got to disseminate information around the world like that) and stuck with it because it was easy (though maybe not necessarily what I wanted to do). Now that I've been out of school for a few years, I've realized I like the writing and layout aspects of my job (the creative parts), but not much else. What I would really like to do is work on higher education -- as an adviser, as a program manager, as something -- and maybe even eventually get my doctorate and become a professor.

When I was 5 - a pediatrician
When I was 10 - an actress When I was 15 - a musician When I was 18 & 19 - a VH1 VJ because the parents said I needed a backup plan to the musician thing When I was 20, 21, & 22 - an FBI/CIA agent, a war correspondant, or a lawyer When I was 23 - a lawyer Presently - I have found my niche wanting to be a record label owner someday. It combines the legal, communications, and the music. Maybe now I'll be happy! |
An actor.
|
At 10, I decided to be a stockbroker and that was my goal. LOL
I a currently a financial analyst so I did end up working in some financial capacity. |
I wanted to be a super hero or a chef. Not really sure why.
|
I didn't know
When I was asked that question, I had NO IDEA.
I remember once saying that I wanted to be a firefighter....I wanted to help people. My Dad's response: "No daughter of mine will be a firefighter" So of course, that hasn't happened. :) At another time I wanted to a lawyer, a teacher, then in sixth grade I decided: Quote:
At least now, I know that I want to be children's author. When I apply to grad school(this summer), my focus will be creative writing/fiction. |
I wanted to be a singer until I was about 10, then I wanted to be a vet, then at 12 I wanted to be an OB/GYN, then at 15 I wanted to be an adolescent therapist, and at 17 entered school working towards Christian Counseling...
Now, I'm running out of the computer room to go wrestle the bottle of "bubbles" from my nephew who is undoubtedly soaping up the kitchen....*madly dashes away* |
When I was in elementary school I wanted to be a jockey, but then when I realized I was going to be too tall for that, I decided that I was going to be a Radio City Music Hall Rockette. Unfortunately, I didn't get tall enough for that, so then in middle school and high school I dreamed of being a really famous author a la Danielle Steele. (Hey, I could write that sort of drivel in my sleep...) Or an artist, even though I don't really think the whole starving-genius-who-lives-in-a-crummy-studio thing would work for me. I'm working on my master's in Education right now, but I still haven't put the author/artist idea on hold...

In grade school I alternated between wanted to be a teacher then a "boss" (what ever that meant, I just knew I wanted to tell people what to do)
In the 5th grade I met a black woman who was an electrical engineer and I said I wanted to be that for a long time. When I realized what EEs really did, I changed it to "banker" because I loved money lol I interviewed with several banks right before graduating from college, and was even offered a job with one (what is now Wacovia after several mergers of course) but I turned it down to take another job. I now work in HR (well, I would if I had a job! I had an interview on Monday though, and another scheduled for Thursday, so if you believe in the power of prayer, send one up for me!) |
Back in Kindergarden apparently my only answer to what I wanted to be when I grew-up was "Rich"...
|
the first woman on Mars. Not 1st person, 1st woman. Thereby, if a man went first and didnt make it, Id change my mind.
When I turned 12 is when physics starts getting taught in my elementary school but then the school was on strike for about 3 months so I never learned it, thus, the end of the dream. |
around 7 - 16... a vet. it changed.
17 - 26... in advertisment. i was so into graphics 27 - teacher now. i want to concentrated on my photography. either that or become an exotic performer! ;) |
Up until I was about 13, I wanted to be a vet. I wanted to have my own animal ambulance and drive around looking for injured animals to help; I kid you not.
I'm actually a pretty good artist and sometime in junior high I decided that it would be cool to be an architect. Actually, I still think that would be very cool! Then I found out about that whole "architects should be able to do math" thing and reluctantly dropped that idea. I could do math if I had to, but I didn't want to do it as part of my actual job! In high school, I fell in love with writing (mainly because I found out I had the ability to write better than the other students with less effort) and that's where I found my niche. I declared my English Writing major early on with the intention of being a newspaper reporter but at the beginning of my senior year I decided to try out a public relations internship. I decided that was for me and that's where I ended up. |
A pediatrician, which is strange when you consider how much I dislike doctors and children.
|
When I was 4 I wanted to be a vet. Now, I am a vet.
KR, I too wanted to be my own animal ambulance. Sometimes, I am but it is hard in a 2 door convertible. |
The earliest ambition I had was to be the first woman to win the Daytona 500 - until I took a stock car over 120mph & freaked!
Even while I wanted that, though, I still wanted to be a writer and a mother. That's when the grand plan began: I was going to William & Mary, work in Colonial Williamsburg during the summer while majoring in languages & writing, then upon graduation, spend one year being a tour guide, then work at CW while writing the Great American Novel. From 6 to 13 I wanted to be an architect.
From 13-16 I wanted to be either an architect or an automotive designer (when I found out people got paid to do that!), and be a writer too. I went to architecture school for three years, got sacked after one of my professor's (who to this day has still never had anything he's designed built) told me I had no talent. I still toyed with the idea of writing a novel. Changed my major to history and political science without any real clue as to what I was going to do. At 21 got the idea to go into the Foreign Service for the State Department. That lasted until I was 24 when I was rejected for the foreign service... Worked in retail, government, and non-profit for six years. And now I'm a Greek Advisor (and my novel is well under way). |

I wanted to be:

Let's see now:
*an astronaut *a teacher *a pathologist *a ballerina |

what ever i do, i become the best! |
I first remember wanting to be a teacher. Then I changed my mind and wanted to be a doctor. Then I fine tuned it to psychiatrist. I got admitted to a combined bachelor's/medical school accelerated program but before I accepted it, I decided that I didn't think I could be a good psychiatrist AND a good mother (cuz I always wanted to be a mom) so I decided on Occupational Therapy. I worked as an OT for 13 years, in the field of mental health. Since OT involves teaching life skills and I was doing it on psychiatric units, I ended up combining all of the careers I had once wanted into one. At 35, I changed careers to IT. If I could do it all over again, I'd be either a teacher or an Optometrist. But, I like what I do now. I haven't decided yet what my next career will be...
