Prayers for my 6 year old cousin
Could use some prayers in my family's direction....
My aunt went to wake up her son this morning. Found him on the floor, comatose. Which she picked him up, he urinated himself. She took him to the hospital, of course. He hasn't been totally comatose, but doesn't generally know what's going on, can't name his little brother, etc. So far, they ruled out anything he ingested, as the toxicology reports came up negative. Bloodwork didn't show anything (so not likely diabetes). The CAT scan didn't really show anything. They did a spinal tap (took 4 tries! ouch he's going to be hurting, if he remembers anything), and as I left they were waiting for the results. They seem to think it was some sort of seizure (well duh, I even said that as soon as I heard), but have no idea what caused it and when he'll be back to normal. Thank god we have one of the best Children's hospitals in the country/world. So any prayers/thoughts would be appreciated! |
<<prayers>>
I hope you cousin gets better, it's always worse on family when something happens to a child. Have they checked for anytype of aneurism? Because this reminded me of what happened to my nephew 2 years ago (he was 5). |

DANI, I really Mean it when I say, I hope everything works out for the best.
I never understand a God who will let things like this happen to little children. They are to pure to be bad, so let them Live and be fruitful. Please keep us updated on the progress of YOUR Little Cousin. |
The first thing I thought when I read the line about finding him comatose on the floor was that it sounds epilepsy or some type of seizure disorder. I hope that they find out what is wrong with him very soon. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
|
I hope he is okay. Keep us posted.
|
Dani, please know my thoughts and best wishes are with your cousin and your entire family. I hope the doctors are able to determine just what happened and help him recover quickly.
|
Dani, I hope that your cousin recovers successfully. There is a co-worker's son who was found unconsious a few days ago, turns out it was an inner ear infection.
Hope that it turns out to be simple. |
My gosh, I hate to hear about little ones having to go through so much pain and illness.
My family will be praying for him. Please let us know how things go. -Tiffany |
I'm always sad to hear about children who fall ill - I have prayed for him and your family.

My parents visited last night. As of then, they still didn't know what it was. His spinal tap didn't show anything. His brain waves are irregular still, but I think that's common after a seizure, and they think he may have some memory loss- but i'm not sure, I think that may be his parents overreacting on that one. Poor kid has had a hell of a day, all of these tests, all of these people he doesn't know asking him questions, etc. He is only 6, so he doesn't really fully understand what's going on and why it's important that he cooperate. And his parents are a bit stage parent-ish in expecting him to be smart.
They're concerned because his white blood cell count is kinda high, and they don't know why yet, nothing is showing up on tests. I'm just glad to hear he was much more lucid, and from what my mom said, he was getting back to his little 6-year old -smart ass self. I'm going to try to get to the hospital again this evening. |
Oh Danielle, I'm so sorry about your little cousin. I will keep him in my prayers.
|
The poor baby!I bet he's terrified! Ya'll are in our prayers!
|
well, they diagnosed him with encephalitis (swelling of the brain). I guess it's something they can't really treat... it could get better, or it could get worse. He's going to be in the hospital for at least 10 more days, I guess it's just a wait and see kind of thing
When I visited today he was much more lucid. Poor kid's going to be bored off his butt. Even though it is a children's hospital and i'm sure they'll have some stuff to help entertain him, and his dad brought his gamecube. Anyone have any ideas of something I could take him that might entertain him? He's 6 and a pretty smart kid. I'm so out of touch with kids stuff right now |
Dani, I will keep your entire family in prayer and for God's hand to touch your cousin.
As far as something that might help keep him entertained. Does he have a LeapPad? My 5 yo has one, and it's great. Different books with cartridges, but also works on their reading skills. For a good price on one, check your local Walmart. the cartridges are pretty reasonable. Small lego paks--there are cool ones out there that have the wheels, little men, etc. Invisible ink books. Hotwheels. SpongeBob Squarepants stuff---if his mom/dad don't mind it. What about a portable dvd player? There are some pretty reasonable priced ones...and then he will be able to watch some of his favorite movies as well. Good luck, and we'll keep praying for him. |
My prayers go out to your cousin Dani. When I read the first post, it reminded me of my friend Chris who died a year ago. Except with him, his girlfriend and her friends drugged him and left him for dead in the guest room.
I'll be praying for you, your cousin and your whole family. |

If it's any consolation, Dani, my second husband had encephalitis when he was 5. It took him a while, but he recovered almost completely although he can't do puzzles and put mechanical type things together. He's a financial analyst with an MBA so he really doesn't have to do any puzzles anyway! Your cousin is in the best possible place.
I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Dee |
thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, my friend.

I am so sorry to hear what your family has been going through! I'm out of town, but will still be praying for your little cousin, and for peace for your whole family. I'll echo the Legos and such for toys; something that won't jerk any of the IVs he's on, yet still fun. Or, just reading some goofy stories to him - kids are so different, it's hard to tell what each one would like. Hint: Take a box of chocolates to the nurses station, and make sure they knew who they're from. Crazy, but over the years, I've noticed what a huge difference it makes in treatment. |

Dani, your family is in my prayers. You might ask the nurses what items cannot be brought into his room. When my DH was in the Neuro ICU, he couldn't have balloons. Who knew?! |
