Batman Begins

New Batman movie opens today.

I've heard that the new one will be more dark like the original with Michael Keaton and Jack Nickolson. The other movies of the series got progressively more cheesy and garish (and not good garish like the TV show Batman)

Whoever the new villian is, it will be hard to top Jacks performance as "The Joker".

Alpha Sig Scott 06-15-2005 07:46 PM

Just got back from seeing Batman Begins.

It was quite good. The new villian (won't spoil it by telling you who it is) rivals Jacks performance as The Joker. It's a bit of a twist to find out who he is.

I think Christian Bale is by far the best actor to play Batman so far. All in all one of the better movies I've seen this summer.

I liked it a lot. Lived up to my expectations. I am glad they are doing another series.

I saw it today and it is pretty damn good. I like how they delved into the story of Bruce Wayne more than the other films.

DeeGeePrincess 06-17-2005 08:45 PM

I saw it last nite.

To me it was ok. Maybe I went into with alot of expectations but compared to the other batman movies it was def. better.

ps. in the BAtman Forever (the one with JOKER) didnt they blame JOker for killing his parents??

pps christian bale...nice eye candy!!! his body was ripped! ;)

Sistermadly 06-18-2005 05:15 AM

It was good... except whenever I saw Katie Holmes, I couldn't help wondering whether she and Pacey would end up together, or whether she'd run off with Dawson McForehead.

GeoffZ 06-18-2005 11:24 PM

I saw it tonight and enjoyed it. It's the best of the Batman movies so far. I liked that it was darker and smarter than the others. It's really entertaining.

aggieAXO 06-19-2005 12:36 AM

I guess I am in the minority. I thought it was ok. Christian Bale is hot, though when he put the mask on and talked I was wondering how many cigarettes he had to smoke to get his low raspy voice. I will always prefer Michael Keaton-I loved his eyes. Katie Holmes bugged me. The psychiatrist looked like a woman-way too much eyeliner.

midwesterngirl 06-19-2005 12:02 PM

Gary Oldman as Lt Gordon looks like ned Flanders.

jharb 06-19-2005 01:44 PM

I saw this movie Thursday and LOVED it! It was so good, although I felt some of the fight scenes weren't shot very well. I wouldn't mind seeing it again though!

Christian Bale is great, and I for once thought of Katie Holmes as someone other than Joey Potter!

Xylochick216 06-19-2005 02:35 PM

I went (against my will) with my dad today, and actually liked it. I thought Christian Bale was amazing, and I agree with jharb about Katie Holmes. I loved Morgan Freeman, and the villain shocked me. It was definitely much better than the past few Batman movies.

Yeah, I didn't like him at all. I couldn't take him seriously as a villian. He was much better in 28 Days Later.

Rudey 06-20-2005 09:00 AM

It was OK.

I think the best way to judge how a movie is going is to pay attention to people in the crowd and see how often they open their cell phones to check on the time. They did this more times than I can count for Batman.

Christian is my boy. He's one of my favorite actors and did a good job here.

It's funny how much time they spent on Bruce's early transition and how many evil villains they tried to cram in (3 big ones) as opposed to breaking it up more and not making it so jumbled.

And, as expected, it's just another big hollywood movie with a "no-surprises" script; heck I thought I was watching Spiderman.

I'm like xylochick. I pretty much went to go see it because I was bored and didn't want to stay at home (plus i had already told my brother yes before i knew we would see Batman).

To my surprise, I actually liked it. I don't remember the other batman movies, so I can't really compare Christian Bale to the other Batmans, but I remember that I did like when Val Kilmer played Batman..lol, don't ask me why.

The "Villian" was rather interesting, but the thing that really freaked me out was the psychiatrist and his "tool to help the crazy people" (lol, don't wanna give it away to those who haven't seen it). But that really creeped me out everytime he used it! lol.

I'd rate it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Oh my God, I thought it was AMAZING. Best Batman movie (and I loved EVERY Batman movie...even the ones no one else liked) and one of my top favorite movies of all time now. I loved the story line, the action (Batmobile car chase??? lovvved it) and even Katie Holmes. I didnt think she would fit in, but she did a nice job. Christian Bale was great.

Someone else mentioned this too, but it bothered me too...it the first Batman movie, they definitely showed Jack Nicholson's well to do character as the one who killed Bruce Wayne's parents. In this movie, they showed some hobo. How could they miss that? Anyone?

I have to disagree with this. I thought Katie Holmes was the worst thing about this movie. I don't think she's that good of an actress. She's the female version of Kevin Costner...always playing the same person.

Overall I liked the movie. It was much darker than the others, which is great. Not too campy, although sometimes campy can be entertaining.

Yes, I said the same thing! I thought it was The Joker that killed Bruce Wayne's parents. However, someone's who's big into comic books told me this movie was closer to the actual Batman story than the other films.

Well...I find it interesting that each villian is the one who kill Bruce's parents. Now...correct me if i'm wrong...but when I was watching one of the Batman movies (the one where Jim Carrey played the Riddler and Val Kilmer was Batman) he mentions to Albert that this character---Two-Face (played by Tommy lee Jones) was the one who killed his parents.

I just wish these people would decide who really killed his parents, but I guess when your like me and can't remember the other ones, this discrepancy doesn't seem so big.

Betarulz! 06-26-2005 06:21 PM

As far as the debate over the killers of Bruce Wayne's parents...pretty much in any long running comic book series, there are a lot of different story lines due to the different writers and that kind of stuff.

Particularly for franchises like Batman and superman, which have spawned off numerous series of comics with them as the characters, it's almost like there are numerous parrallel universes in which these different versions of the characters play out their lives. In a similar fashion, this is what is happening with these movies. Pretty much, you should think of this new string of Batman movies as separate from the films in the 90s. It's almost like the Real World/Road Rules challenge/inferno/battle of the sexes, where you have the same people over and over again in different situations, but the overall goal remains the same.

moe.ron 06-27-2005 02:59 AM

Herd that they did not signed Katie Holmes for the sequel. It seems that the producers and the movie company wasn't happy with the way she promoted the film. Or the way she kept on promoting Tom Cruise's movie while ignoring Batman.

I agree. I know a lot of people liked Michael Keaton, and I thought he was a great Bruce Wayne, but I never bought that he could have the physical prowess to be Batman.

I thought this was the best of the Batman movies, Katie Holmes' completely unconvincing performance as an ADA not withstanding.

According to the Batman "canon," Joe Chill killed the Waynes. The first Batman movie took a liberty that has sometimes (but not consistently) been suggested in the comic books and had Joe Chill become The Joker.

Batman Begins departs from the canon by having the Waynes at an opera before being killed -- this allowed the director to use the bat/fear theme by having "bats" on stage.

In the Batman origin stories in the comics, they had been to see The Mark of Zorro, providing a little masked inspiration for the future hero.

xo_kathy 06-28-2005 03:45 PM

I thought it was pretty good, too. I can't stand Katie's crooked mouth. It's cute once in a while, but it's every line! And the psychiatrist's "therapy" creeped me out. I couldn't watch it (but I'm a wimp...AND we were in an IMAX theatre!!!!)

KatieKate1244 06-29-2005 07:51 PM

I really liked it,too. Although Batman has always been my favorite superhero, so I guess I'm kinda biased. Bale was great in the movie, but did anyone else see where he kept changing from blue eyes to brown eyes while in costume? Katie Homes was okay, nothing to write home about. I do think they could have found someone better to play that role.

SigKapBling 06-30-2005 04:11 PM

I thought it was a pretty good movie. My dad and I used to watch all of the Batman movies when i was a kid, so i was really excited to see it. I didnt like katie holmes it in, either, but then again, i dont really like her in anything other than Dawsons Creek......
I always thought that there were 2 people that killed bruce's parents............. ?? HMM
either way, it was a really good movie ... i personally liked Michael Keaton as batman too :p

dzfan 07-07-2005 01:26 PM

I liked it. I thought some parts were a little awkward, but the story and cast were good.
