I had a Sigma moment today...

So, I'm at the mall downtown today, sitting on a bench eating my Hagen Daz when I hear "I have to stop and say hello to my soRHOr.." I looked up and a woman came over to me with a big ole' grin on her face. "Hello soRHOr" she said. My response "Hello soRHOr" and we hugged. She said " "I crossed Beta Psi in 96...." I said "I crossed Beta Psi fall of 2001". Ok, that's when we both pretty much lost it. She said (in the direction of her family members) "This is my NEO! :)" Turns out, after she graduated, she moved out of state and was in town for a few days. I was so excited because this was my first "out of chapter" experience. So we chatted for a few minutes, exchanged info, hugged again, and then went on our seperate ways.

I wanted to share my happy moment with my soRHOrs!;)

UNIQUE97 05-16-2002 04:31 PM

How touching......(wiping a tear from my eye)

That is so nice!! It is funny how small this world can seem sometimes!! What a totally BLUETIFUL experience!!!!

NinjaPoodle 05-16-2002 08:08 PM

I forgot to mention I was wearing my kahki SGRho hat and had my black SGRho messenger bag.

SeriousSigma22 05-17-2002 05:53 PM

Sorhor Ninjapoodle,

Everytime I wear nalia which is a lot I always run into a sorhor that I've never met before. I also have a story about wearing my nalia in a social gathering. I was with three other sorhors from my chapter and we were just hanging out on a late Saturday afternoon in March (2002) and Sorhor F. Blakeney had just got on all of us because she was the only sorhor wearing visible nalia. We decided to hang out at Uno's - Chicago Bar and Grill for a bite to eat at the Bowie Town Center and after the meal we ran into a Sorhor from another chapter. The sorhor had on her nalia and we all exchanged phone numbers, addresses, etc. When we got outside of the place Sorhor F. Blakeney turned and said, "see that's why you should wear more nalia than just the jewelry and she was very right because we could have just walked right past that sorhor and never had the opportunity to get to know one another.

The moral of the story is. . . Sorhors wear your nalia proudly.

I couldn't agree more!:)

I had a Sigma moment today!

I work in the financial district in San Francisco. I was on my way to lunch and stepped out of my buliding and saw it was raining so I went back up to the 19th floor to get my SGRho umbrella.;) I get outside and just as I get across the street, I hear this EEE-YYOOP! I snapped my head around (danm near broke it!) and saw my soRHOr standing on the oppisite corner waving at me! So when the light turned green, I ran across to greet her, gave her a *BIG HUG* and we did the intro's and stuff. Can you imagine what this looked like? Two grown women in the middle of the street hugging and laughing? I forgot her name already (i'm really bad with names!:o)but she crossed at Mississppi Valley State. We only had 1 little piece of paper and I had left my cell phone in the office. So I gave her my number and I'm gonna hook her up with our grad and undergrad chapters! What a nice way to start my weekend!!

BTW, the obvious moral of the story is wear your para and wear it proudly!! You never know who you will run into!:D

sigmadiva 05-03-2003 11:56 AM

Me too..

I have had Sigma Moments like this when I wear my pari. I've started a little book with the names and addresses of SoRHOrs I meet. I love random meetings. It makes me feel soooo connected to the Sigma Sisterhood. :D

SeriousSigma22 05-03-2003 07:40 PM

Hey Sorhors,

I've had numerous Sigma moments because I always have on some nalia on my body, my car and I carry my sorority briefcase that I received from regionals 2001 and that really grabs a lot sorhors attention. The moral of the story for all sorors is to wear your nalia and always have something handy to write down their information. It really is a good way to network and keep in contact.

Serioussigma22

A Job well done Sorhor Ninjapoodle!

bluethunder 05-05-2003 03:57 PM

i heard that, soRHOrs...

yep, there's nothing like a SIGMA moment, y'all...
i had my first random meeting at DISNEYWORLD in Orlando...
i wore my nalia 'cause I KNEW out of the 1 jillion people, i was gonna find me a SOROR! and so i did... at the happiest place on earth.

It's funny that we are talking about wearing nalia and so on bc last spring at XU (Xavier University of LA - Delta Chater) I received the "greek w the most nalia" award at our NPHC BBQ. I'm always repRHOsenting to the fullest!!!

:D Hey soRHOrs.

Sorhor,

Can we say neo fever!! Now there goes a true Sigma Gamma Rho!:p You go sorhor!

constance2002 07-08-2003 06:26 PM

:D hey what can I say..."I Am bad from head to toe. I am a woman of Sigma Gamma Rho!"

I just got a new car last week and I was too upset  bc I could not get my favorite color. So you know me..the Super Neo..I just put a sticker, a plate, and I have a necklace hanging from the rear view mirror. I know it's sad..huh? LOL!

But soRHOrs I really luv this organization. I am an only child and I never had a lot of friends and my family is not really close. I went to private schools so I was "stuck up" to the people in my hood..and "not stuck up enough" (sort of speak) for the people at school. So since I've found Sigma and since it has embraced me so well w that family like feeling..I'm never gonna let up...But that's enough b4 I get all sentimental...

bye SoRHOrs!!!

What's so sad about a sticker, plate, and necklace......shoot, I have a front plate, rear plate frame, mini-paddle on the rearview, and an umbrella and car flag in the back window!! I have some rear bumper damage on my car and whenever I get it fixed, I just may paint CiCi (that's my car's name) "14 Karat Gold" in honor of SP2K2 or RHOyal blue. I already have little blue lights on my tires and I'm about to get the blue ground kit and some little lights to go my wipers.
:D Now THAT'S sad!!:p :D

sigmadiva 07-10-2003 06:31 PM

a blank canvas....

I do have an 'electron blue' Honda CR-V, but it has no 'nalia on it.
When I was a teenager and looked forward to having a car, I dreamed about all the funny bumper stickers I'd put on it. Now that I have a car I don't have anything on it. I do have a rear plate frame that I need to attach.

But, speaking of 'nalia on cars. When I do see a sorhor in traffic I try to drive up close, see if I know her and wave at her, or at least blow and wave from the other side of the street. . :)

constance2002 07-13-2003 02:55 PM

aRHOgantduece - Your car sounds off the hook...I'm going to fix my car up a lil more too...I had another Sigma moment. I just came back from this leadership conference for my internship. We had a lil mixer type of party thing and people had on their nalia and I was like, "I know I have to find at least one of my soRHOrs in here. Sure enough...I found 2. I was soooo excited. They ran across the room and gave me a big hug!! I was so excited...everyone was looking at us..like, "is it really that serious"? ;) BUt we had a good time that night!! We had to repRHOsent for SGRHO!!
EEE-YIP!!!!!

THANKS!! :D

......everyone was looking at us..like, "is it really that serious"? ;)

Yes!! I was leaving work yesterday to go to the bank. Walking out to the car (with no para besides a small lavalier around my neck), a lady asked me was I a SGRho. I was like yeah, she told me she was too (spring 88--UT-Martin) and we were out there hugging in the middle of the lot/street. She said that she saw the car (I had backed in so my plate was facing the front) and got geeked because there aren't many of us here--I hadn't made it to the car yet so it really wasn't obvious that it was my car, and I doubt that she saw the lavalier from that distance.

I just happened to look around when I got in the car to leave, and my dad (who I work for) was looking at me like "Who in the world were you out in the middle of the street hugging like that?" So yeah, it really is that serious!!:D ;) :D

My dad laughs at me b/c I have a category in my palm pilot for Greeks, and another one for Sigma. Whenever I meet someone, I try to add their info into my palm. You never know when you're going to need to find the Soror who has the knack for .............

What happened to the other posts in this thread? Cause I know I posted in here back then.

Anyway, Saturday before last I was barely standing in line to take the Praxis II. I was exhausted from a week of working, studying, going to class when I hear a voice saying Hey Soror. It was another teacher taking the test too. I was at U of MD-Baltimore County (with my T-shirt on of course). We make small talk about teaching, how exhausted we are, and because I had the nerve to be on Howard's campus the night before for Alpha Phi Chapter knowing full well I had this test at 7:30 a.m. the next morning.

I feel so much better after reading this because I have a front and rear license plate frame and a mini-paddle on my car as well and some of my friends were clowning me about having too much nalia on my car. I was like dang! I will only get to be a NEO once, can't I just enjoy it for a little while?

Don't feel bad soror. I have a front and back plate, and one of those strips in my back window that spells out Sigma Gamma Rho.

What I REALLY want is the Missouri SGRho license plate. I saw one at Central Regionals last year, and I was :D . GA needs to join the bandwagon!

aurora2 06-01-2005 04:10 PM

EEEEEEEEEEEYIIIIIPPPP, sorors! My Sigma moment...wanna hear it, here it goes:

I was working in St. Thomas last year around this time and I had on my SGRho gear, when I saw a big, Blue van approaching with an SGRho plate on the front. The taxi I was in was like a trolley, so I hung my body out the car and called her as loudly as I could and she almost hit me for trying to greet me as well. Because I was in a trolley, I could not stop, but it was beautiful to be so far from home but so close to family. We are so lovely and so blessed!

OneLove.

rho4life 06-03-2005 05:12 PM

I was leaving my office with one of my co-workers to go grab some caffine to make it through the afternoon. As we're walking down the street I ran into a neo from a local chapter. Of course I gave her a big hug and said hello. My co-worker was like, ummm, do you know her??? I said, kind of, but it doesn't matter if I know her or not, b/c she's one of my Sisters. :)

SeriousSigma22 06-05-2005 12:43 PM

Sorhor Rho4life,

That's so nice! I love having Sigma moments!

Sigma To the Rescue

Okay Sorhors,

I had to tell my bluetiful sisters this story, I know ya'll will understand.

I was driving to work today minding my business when all of a sudden a huge orange bucket flew off of a truck in front of me. I tried my dam*est not to drive over it, but of course I did and these sparks started flying from up under my car. So I was like "I'm going to blow this car up kill myself" so I pulled over and got out to take a look. (and yes, it was the hottest day in the last two years here in DC..so you know I was right irritated ;) )

Anyway, I was trying everything to get this bucket from under my car and it was really stuck so I sat and thought for a minute. Then I looked in the backseat and saw my cane that I had taken to a picnic this summer. And yes I used that cane to beat that bucket from up under my car. I REALLY didn't want to, but I had to.

After the whole ordeal, I thought to myself ""SIGMA IS ALWAYS THERE WHEN I REALLY NEED IT"

BlueReign 06-15-2005 12:22 AM

You used your cane?! Now that's funny!! I'm just sorry that I couldn't assist you, Soror cause it sure is hot, isn't it? And now my air is not working so well. At least we are cooling off for the weekend. This is so unbearable!!

SeriousSigma22 06-16-2005 04:37 PM

Sorhor,

I'm glad you're safe sorhor, however, we can all laugh about that story now that your ordeal is over. Thanks for sharing it!

One again!

Today I started a 2 week course for Algebra/Data Analysis teachers sponsored by the Governor of Maryland. I was observing the class around 8:30 am seeing who is there/who I know, etc. and I see a Sigma brief case sitting on the floor. It belonged to a Soror I have met before at an Area I meeting a few years ago. She remembered me and my daughter!!

We hug and talk as if we are old friends and I am just so tickled that we are in the same class together. Other teachers were around us when we embraced and they just gave us that look  , you know Sorors, that look -- some folks just don't understand!!;)

SeriousSigma22 07-13-2005 07:22 PM

Sorhor Bluereign,

That's a really nice Sigma moment! Thanks for sharing. . .!

Serioussigma22:)

TRSimon 07-13-2005 07:56 PM

I had a Sigma Moment Today...

Thanks for the email, SeriousSigma :) It was sooo cute.

Just about every day I get a chance to speak with amazing dynamic women who are like my sisters. We laugh together and celebrate each other's milestones. It is all really great, so I have to say I have a Sigma Moment almost every day.

:)

SeriousSigma22 07-18-2005 06:42 PM

I had several Sigma moments at the Leadership Conference and Dedication this past weekend. I really did share some tears of joy at the dedication ceremony.

Serioussigma22:cool:

P.S.

All Sorors must take the tour of the Headquarters:

I walked through the doors of the new headquarters and just broke out with the biggest smile!

BlueReign 07-19-2005 12:09 AM

My Sigma moments at the Leadership Conference...

All of the RHOyal blue every time we were assembled together

The yellow rose petals on the walkway leading to the door of our headquarters

Past IGB Dr. Cleo Higgins in her blue and gold heels (with her walker in front of her!!)

And so many more!!

Rho_Rho 07-30-2005 07:19 PM

Ok so here's my favorite "Sigma Momment."
I was at the taste of chicago with one of my girlfriends walking around enjoying the food and sights. For those who don't know the taste is huge event so of course I had rep my blue and gold! I had on my khaki SGRho hat and purse. As a result every 10 minutes I ran into a soror. And everytime I met a soror we hugged, kissed each other on the cheek, introed, and exchanged info.
Finally me and my girl sat down to rest and she turned to me and said "Wow, I had no idea sorority members could be so tight!" She went on and on about how beautiful it was that we all just greeted each other so warmly despite the fact that I had never met these ladies before.
Needless to say that incident totally piqued her interest. She has since been to an informational, done her reasearch, and is totally falling in love with the golden light that is Sigma Gamma Rho.
That just goes to show you sorors our love for one an other doesn't just impact us but those around us as well. Man I LOVE MY SGRHO!!!

SeriousSigma22 07-31-2005 11:43 PM

That's beautiful sorhor!

Serioussigma22

BlueReign 08-01-2005 12:32 AM

Thanks Rho Rho! It's always like that, isn't it?;)

bluethunder 10-11-2005 03:33 PM

i had another SIGMA moment!

i work for social security these days...and i was in the process of issuing social security cards for a line of customers. i saw a gentleman with his wife in the line and he was wearing a KAPPA ALPHA PSI hat. so when he got to the front of the line, i gave him a smile and said, "brother Kappa! i hardly ever see any Kappas in here...and NEVER any SIGMA GAMMA RHOs" and his wife started smiling and said, "are YOU a SIGMA?" and i said, "YES I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!" man, i had to stop what i was doing, run out into the lobby and give her a BIG hug (since we were separated by glass at the service window). we held up the line talking about some of everything...and her husband got on her about not wearing enough paraphernalia, saying that had it not been for his hat, we may have missed each other altogether! LOVE ME A SIGMA MOMENT!
