UT-Tyler expansion
Hey all,
does anyone know who all presented at UT-Tyler? I know Gamma Phi and Zeta presented, but i imagine there were more. Anyone know? |
Also presenting are AXO, DG, and SK. I think the presentations were pretty spread out, seems like the last one is June 14.

I found this link on the UT-Tyler site
Fraternities, Sororities to Present at UT-Tyler Apparently they are starting a greek system. Here's another link about the woman in charge. Sutton Joins Student Development |
Love it, they are doing it on ethnic %s.:(
Damn, what a silly Concept! Profiling as it were? Well, it is Texass!:( |
thanks for the links! Silly me didn't even think of visiting the website - i didn't even think they would post it. that's what i get for thinking! oh well, it is monday, right?:D
|
I posted a link to their site about a month ago too that had the info............
|
good luck...
may tyler get exactly what it wants and needs. all are wonderful possiblities. congratulations |
This is really great to hear for Tyler! We spent many summers there as kids, and it's a great place to visit!
Is anyone involved first hand in this expansion process? I'd love to hear how presentations and the like are going. Is this a starting from scratch process, or are locals being petitioned? |

Yes, it will be divided between NIC-2. NPC-2. And NHPC-2.
If one looks at the % of Students and the mix, it makes no sense. But, remember, it is a first step for Greeks on UTT!:) |

Is This The Old Tyler Junior College?
We had a chapter there in the 1970s when it was a junior college. It was a horrible idea - not Tyler especially, just the idea of a chapter in a junior college - and it died an ugly death along with the other fraternities. Don't know who else was there at the time. If Texas has turned it into a 4-year institution then I'm glad to see that Greeks are eager to be involved.

Besides, one NPHC fraternity and one NPHC sorority sounds like the minimum of historically black groups you can invite. What do you want them to do, Tom -- make the Alphas start accepting women so UT-Tyler doesn't have to invite AKA? |

If I were a bettin' man, I'd say that the two NPHC "slots" are probably the fraternity and sorority that already has interest or prospects (or transfer members) on campus. |
I wonder what sorority Sutton is in?
|
I googled her and came up with a Chapter Advisor of the Year Award from the Indiana U Panhellenic to Mindy Sutton, Gamma Phi Beta.
|
That is what was said. 2 NPHC Groups, 1 Fraternity and 1 Sorority.
2 NIC and 2 NPC Groups for now. sugar and spice . I did not say it was Equal did I? Just didnt understand it! Not with the mix. I am not sure of wht the enrollemnt is? |

Firehouse, Tyler Junior College and UT-Tyler are two separate schools.
According to the UT System website (www.utsystem.edu), UT-Tyler is expected to have over 8,000 students by 2030. Visit http://www.utsystem.edu/borminutes/2...1-00ServTx.pdf and scroll down to page 7 to see the enrollment estimates of the different UT campuses. Some of the projections will come about sooner than expected - I believe UTPB already has 3,000 students. |

Other schools in the UT system are experiencing the same growth. I have read that UT- Brownsville is experiencing the same growth (the largest growth seems to be in the southern half of the state). I would imagine that UT-Tyler would experience a larger growth rate than projected, but not as fast as the universities in the southern half of the state. I could imagine UT-Tyler at 14,000 to 17,500 in the next 10 to 15 years. The growth is a combination of improved access to education, explosive population growth in the state, the Texas law that GURANTEES admission to the public university of the students choice if they graduate in the top 10% of their class, regardless of SAT/ACT score and HS involvement/activities, and an enrollment cap at UT-Austin, the flagship institution of the system. All combined, its a perfect storm for explosive growth at the state universities. Of course, someone should tell the legislature that so they'll drop some coin and work to fix the problem. |
I've tried to find similar data for the A&M system but haven't had any luck. I'm sure we'll hear about Greek expansion at UTPB, A&M-Texarkana (recently went from Junior/Senior to being 4 years) and the A&M campus in Killeen.
Isn't Lambda Chi at A&M-Int'l in Laredo? I've heard no decision/announcement will be made at UT-Tyler until all orgs have presented. Why they're waiting for both fraternities AND sororities to present , I have no idea. I'd think you'd announce the sororities once they've all presented and do the same for fraternities when they've all presented. |

I have heard from our HQ that we are expecting an announcement on which groups are selected for expansion around mid-July. |

You are right on Tex1899. There have been some major revamping of the collegiate systems in Texas. Greek life will probably be another boost for many of these growing schools. Joining the UT or A&M systems makes them much more visible to the public and possible students. With enrollment bursting at the two 'flagship' universities, the overflow will be able to find homes in the outlying schools. |

ANy word on who they picked at Tyler to colonize??
|
It’s weird how I noticed this thread after I posted in the Greek Advisor thread. (Mindy Sullivan was my Greek advisor before she moved onto UT-Tyler) I wonder how many rounds of selection there were before they got to the presentation/interview round.
|
bump...
Are there any updates? I did a quick research check, and it looks like AXO and DG have the closest alumnae chapters. I wonder if that will influence the decision any? |
I heard from AXO HQ a couple of days ago that a decision would be announced the week of July 13.
