ADPi sister on new WB reality show!!

Sister Mindi Emanuel from MU (Missouri) is on the new show "Beauty and the Geek" which is on the WB on Wednesday nights at 8:00 EST!! They will be running an encore presentation tonight at 9:00 EST!!

"It all starts with seven women who are academically impaired. Next, add seven men who are brilliant but socially challenged. The concept is to pair up couples for a chance to win a $250,000 grand prize. Each mismatched pair competes in various activities designed to test intellect, fashion savvy and even dance moves. There's a spelling bee for the girls, massage lessons for the guys, and an introduction to actual rocket science when the girls compete to see who can build a working rocket. During these competitions, the geek must try to pass his brains onto the beauty, while the beauty tries to pull the game out of the geek. They're so far apart on the social spectrum that they're practically different species, but if they make it to the end, they could both walk away gifted and gorgeous."- taken from the WB website about the show

Here is an article about the show from the Missourian!

As a slight hijack- there is another reality show where celebrities have to learn how to ballroom dance. One of my good friend's daughters, who was a DZ at UGA, interviewed former football player Hershel Walker for Vince Dooley day, and he asked her if she knew anyone that knew ballroom dancing, because he had been asked to be on the show. She had taken in college, so she showed him several moves-so be looking when H. Walker comes on!!

Obviously, Mindi is on the right! I like the way they label her "The Sorority Girl" !

BBelleADPi 06-02-2005 10:14 AM

If you are on AOL, they have a place on the front page showing clips from TV shows that were on last night. One is of Mindy showing Richard how to dance! I watched it this morning before I read this thread. Cool!! She's really cute-let's hope they edit her well.

I wonder what it is because "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC started last night and he is not one of the contestants! Knowing reality tv another channel will probably come out with a slight modification of it and call it something different!! The show on ABC has Rachel Hunter, Trista Rehn Sutter, Evander Holyfield, Joe McIntyre, Kelly Monaco, and John O'Hurley dancing with professional dancers!! I would have to rate it about a "7"!!

But on the topic of Mindi-- they better edit her well! I will be so mad if they make her look stupid!!!

ASUADPi 06-02-2005 03:08 PM

Am I the only one that finds it kind of disturbing that they (the WB) called the girls "academically impaired"? Let's face it I highly doubt Mindi is that "academically impaired" as they would like her to be. Some schools the girls have to keep a minimum of 3.0 to remain active.

Here's to hoping that Mindi "shows them" that she isn't "academically impaired" and then ends up winning in the first place.

Wait question, what exactly does the competition entail? Does anyone know?

WLFEO 06-02-2005 04:01 PM

That phrase jumped out at me also, ASUADPi! I thought it was rude, but I think it's just another Greek stereotype the media is playing out.

I know our ADPi chapter at Mizzou is stellar. I'll be interested to watch!

ADPiAkron 06-02-2005 04:19 PM

I posted the description above....and that comment stood out to me too!

I don't think its a greek stereotype-- it is what they stereotyped all of the girls on the show-- and I do not think they are all greek!! Anyways-- I am sure they are actually smart and Mindi will represent ADPi well!

BBelleADPi 06-02-2005 04:27 PM

Re "Dancing With the Stars," I THINK that they are different celebrities each week, but I'm not sure, so it may be the same show.

Not with Dancing With the Stars - they're doing a type of "American Idol" flavor with calling/going online to vote for your favorite contestant, and then the next week they boot the lowest scoring couple. I watched it last night, and it was interesting - but it seemed as if the judges were favoring the cha cha over the waltz (but that could be my personal bias, I guess :D)

ADPiAkron 06-02-2005 07:00 PM

Me again...

I was looking at a website and saw that someone posted that they heard Mindi and her man make it to the finals!! YAY!

THANK YOU, SISTER!! I was reading this with my mouth agape. I highly doubt this is the kind of activity our Founding Sisters would have endorsed. And to be know as the sorority girl in these circumstances just furthers the negative image we sorority women (who do lots of great work in the chapter, on campus and in the community) must face.

Personally, I find this offensive.

preciousjeni 06-02-2005 09:23 PM

I feel a bit foolish. Someone help me! On the website, it says there's an encore performance tonight but there's a baseball game on. I'm so confused!

ASUADPi 06-02-2005 10:09 PM

I'm actually going to watch it tonight just to see how they portray Mindi. I've decided that if they do a shitty job at it that I will be writing a nasty letter to them regarding their practices and giving in to the stereotypes of "sorority girls".

ASUADPi 06-02-2005 11:08 PM

OMG I'm watching it right now and I'm appalled with what Mindi just said...

the first thing she is shown saying "every girl should use her looks to get what she wants". OUCH!!!!!

Plus, I find it a little disturbing that she is labeled the sorority girl. eek.

I hate to say this, but I hope she's not shown wearing our letters, cause already five minutes into it I don't think they are going to portray her very well.

Someone will have to come pick me up off the floor if I read that she does appear in letters!! I will be SO mortified if my colleagues see that show - I wear my letters (on my lanyard) every day at work!! SOMEONE would be bound to notice!

ADPiAkron 06-03-2005 08:56 AM

I do not think she would ever wear her letters....at least I hope so...but I think she would know that EO would flip out!!

To be honest this show isn't as bad as I thought it would be and luckily other than the comment she made (which I felt was more funny than dumb)-- they do not portray her too badly!! Her man is hilarious!! He is a too good to be true geek-- like he almost looks staged!! Luckily, they won both challenges last night-- so it shows she is smarter than the other girls on the show!! It is almost like she is faking being stupid and he is faking being a geek!! haha

I think in the end-- we need to remember this show is produced by Ashton Kutcher!! So no matter what happens you have to remember- he is the same "stupid" guy from "That 70's Show" and the crazy guy from "Punk'd"!!

If "damage" has been done let's just hope she wins the show and proves she is not dumb-- which I do not think she is because she is a Special Ed major which is not easy-- and her chapter probably has a GPA requirement of at least a 2.6!!

ASUADPi 06-03-2005 09:36 AM

Thank goodness her comments and answers weren't as dumb as some of the other girls.

Lauren sounds like a complete airhead and I cannot believe that she spelled tattoo wrong!!! (that was her right? I made notes but I didn't write a name down)

I have to admit that I can't believe Mindi hesitated with what D.C. stood for. I would have been screaming at the TV if she didn't say "District of Columbia".

Plus, how could some of these women not know their states? I mean seriously, you may start learning this stuff in 5th grade but the states are continously drilled into you. I know for me my Junior year in high school I had to pass a test naming all 50 states (on a blank map) and then labeling their capitals.

I'm very happy that they won both competitions. Yeah them.

I have to admit that I think the little "romance" between Brad and Erika is just so darn cute. :)

ADPiAkron 06-17-2005 10:46 PM

Mindi is continuing to do well! She survived last night due to her brains....she answered questions on Astronomy and got them all right!! Her "geek" partner had trouble with his questions on female fashion-- he did not get any right!! HA!

Go Mindi! Show everyone sorority girls are smart!!

ADPiAkron 06-30-2005 10:32 PM

Although most of you are appalled by the show....Mindi has made it to the finals!! She has definitely proven that "sorority girls" are not stupid!! She has handled herself so well on the show and has represented "sorority girls" (as much as she can since this show is not very positive) very well!! Good Luck Mindi!!

They will be running a marathon with every show this Sunday evening!! The finale will be on next Wednesday at 8:00pm!!

ASUADPi 06-30-2005 11:55 PM

YES marathon!!! I'm all about our sister winning.

m0rgan 07-01-2005 01:14 AM

I would be proud if Mindi were my sister. She has won challenges and answered every one of her questions correctly in the elimination room. She's a smart woman and has a great personality. She isn't hard on Richard like everyone else. (I think she has more patience because she majors in special education and wants to become a teacher.)

By the way, I quizzed my mother on how to spell tattoo and she missed it. She is a lawyer. And if you google "tatoo" you get about a million hits. Come on people we're all human!

Anywho... I hope Mindi wins! ;)

Oh oh and Lauren may not have been the most academically motivated but I thought she was a sweetheart and was sad to see her go. :(

ADPi Conniebama 07-03-2005 08:31 PM

I have been watching Beauty and the Geek this whole time and I have been rooting for Mindi and Richard.

They have really done a good job and I havent been embarassed for Mindi being stupid or anything. And, someone said that Richard looks so dorky that I wouldnt be surprised if he were an actor; I AGREE.

I had no idea that she is my sister, THAT IS SO COOL. Now, I REALLY hope she wins.

I AM A REALITY SHOW ADDICT even this one.

polarpi 07-04-2005 01:59 AM

I had only caught one of the earlier episodes and I wished Mindi the best of luck, but had no intentions of watching the series.

Hooray for summer TV! :D

I caught the marathon tonight, and now I am planning to watch the finale on Wednesday!

I hope Mindi and Richard walk away after annihilating the other team (sorry, don't really care for Chuck or Caitilin :p)

ADPiAkron 07-06-2005 08:03 PM

I am watching Beauty and the Geek!! It is the finale! Go Mindi and Richard!!

ASUADPi 07-06-2005 08:45 PM

DON'T SAY ANYTHING!!!!!!!!

I DON'T GET TO WATCH IT FOR ANOTHER 2-3 HOURS!!!!

ADPi Conniebama 07-06-2005 08:51 PM

Oh I am gonna say I am very excited. Here we go last question

ADPi Conniebama 07-06-2005 08:53 PM

Nevermind I wont say

ADPiAkron 07-06-2005 09:01 PM

The only thing I will say is....it is 9:00 and the show has ended-- now on to the Dancing with the Stars finale!!

I am such a reality tv junkie/dork!!!!!!!!!!

Mindi did an awesome job representing sorority girls!! Way to go Mindi!!

ADPiAkron, your plans for tonight sound *remarkably* similar to mine ;) :D

Got one more hour to go!

ADPiAkron 07-07-2005 07:50 AM

Sad thing is...I went on to watch Sports Kids Mom's and Dad's after Dancing with the Stars! haha I love that show-- those parents have realllllllllllllllll issues!

I will not reveal the results of B and the G yet-- it is on tonight for those who missed it!!

ADPiAkron 07-08-2005 07:50 AM

As you have probably guessed or seen by now- Mindi did not win!!

IT WAS NOT HER FAULT THOUGH-- RICHARD MISSED SOME SILLY QUESTIONS!!

She did so well and proved she is smart-- even Richard said she is the geek and he is the beauty now! haha

ADPi Conniebama 07-08-2005 10:10 AM

Yea, I am gonna watch that "aftershow" of BandG. I wonder about that guy. How could he have missed those questions?

Oh well now on to Big Brother. Do we have any sisters on that show?

ADPiAkron 07-08-2005 03:24 PM

I have no idea-- but I love that show!! Last night was awesome!
