Respect

When is it ever o.k. for a younger member of the sorority to disrespect an older member? (Mind you, they came in through the same chapter)

It's never okay just like it is never okay for a child to disrespect their mother, grandmother, or great grandmother.

Visionary22 05-30-2005 03:43 PM

It's never okay for any member to disrespect any other member regardless of age or length of membership. So, in that same vein, it's not okay for an older member to disrespect a younger one either.

DSTCHAOS 05-30-2005 05:55 PM

It depends on what the issue is and what you mean by "disrespect."

Ditto--what is meant by disrepect and what is meant by older--older in Delta or older in age?

I agree. What exactly happened Brown Beauty?

Kryptonite1913 05-31-2005 02:35 PM

Speaking of Respect!

I heard this statement a lot "Oh...you're just a baby!" along with the hand gesture like "swhoo fly swhoo".

I know I'm a neo and all but... doesn't it have to be like that!

So what is all that about?

It really depends on why that Delta is saying that to you. Sometimes people are dismissed, in an abrupt manner, with just cause. Sometimes they aren't.

Kryptonite1913 05-31-2005 05:51 PM

in this case or multiple cases...it is usually sorors who are not aware I crossed or don't know me... and it's not like we are in some type of conversation we are just greeting each other and then they make to comment.

but anyway I take it all need stride -just wanted to contribute to the discussion...smiles

then you shouldn't let that bother you, especially if they don't know you or know that you are a Soror, and also, they may be doing that to be funny or playful. I know I've said that to some of my neo's and it was not meant to disrespect them.

also, you may be a over sensitive because you are a neo????

DSTCHAOS 05-31-2005 06:54 PM

I agree with treblk.

BrownBeauty 06-01-2005 09:01 AM

Well, the reason this question came up is because one of my Prophytes was disrespected verbally by a younger member of our chapter. My prophyte is years older than her in Delta and I don't feel that she (younger member) was acting in line with how a family should act. I would never disrespect any of my Prophytes. (That is what I was taught). Especially not for all to know as this particular member did. How do you respond to this member?

Due to the sensitive nature of this issue, I don't want to go into too much detail but feel free to email me on this if you have any questions that should not be asked publicly.

With all due respect BrownBeauty, if you are a member of our Sisterhood, please go introduce yourself.

This is all very vague.

Again, it depends on what the issue is and what is meant by disrespect.

I am not at liberty to reveal who I am at this time. I came across this site and thought I could ask a question while remaining anonymous. I assure you I am a Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (3+ years strong) and at the risk of exposing my chapter and its members, I will remove myself from this discussion. I do believe that the answer that crimsontide4 supplied me will have to be sufficient. Thank you to all the Sorors that took the time to see my need and answer on this post. As all chapters have drama, I would prefer not to have my chapter at the forefront of this discussion as we are going through a lot of changes at this time because of the “RESPECT” issue.

Sisterly,
Brown Beauty

 How do you put your chapter at risk just by introducing yourself to sorors and saying hello?

But you chose the answer you wanted to hear. And I don't see this scenario as what CT4 was referring to, beause this sounds like it sould have been some catty female mess, not a Delta issue.

Exactly!

ladygreek 06-01-2005 11:15 AM

Also, I can't tell if this is a collegiate chapter or an alumnae chapter. If it is collegiate than why are all you alums still up in their business?

Soror Ladygreek, this topic is not worth discussing. I just don't get it. I didn't think this topic was about Delta until she mentioned it, I thought it was about her friends.

How does one come across a MB site and post a question expecting answers, but when asked who she is, doesn't want to say:confused:   She only took what she wanted to hear *shrug* I guess..Keep it moving:rolleyes:

ladygreek 06-01-2005 11:21 AM

I hear ya!

CrimsonTide4 06-01-2005 11:21 AM

I would think that something like this could have been handled without even posting on GC.

But welcome to GC. :)

P.S. I guess she liked my answer the best! YAAAAAAAAAAY ME!! I rock!!!!! :) :p :) :o :p

TeeHee!

Y'all are funny, I missed GC.:D

MightyQuinn 06-02-2005 04:53 PM

Maybe...

I think what she meant to say was she didn't want to put her chapters business out there, rather then saying she didn't want to put her chapter at risk. I could be wrong but I guess she figured that once she posted her info we would naturally connect the drama to her chapter which would be her putting her chapters business on front street. Just a thought.

We understood that point, however, the point we didn't get is that she could have solved this problem or gotten information by other means then posting it here.

Hmmm, looking at the list of threads, I do see any recent ones dealing with a specific chapter problem, or anything else of that nature considering this is a public board. So maybe you have this forum confused with another?

Or maybe she is talking about "general" threads in our forum; general meaning not Delta related.
