for yahoo, if you know the info they used to sign up, you can use the get new password option....

userid, zip code, birthday etc then answer the "secret" question and bingo...new password.

I think you pretty much have to use your psychic powers for that.

Ive done it several times, as have my friends, to my girlfriends to find out if they cheat on me or fuck around with dudes online. You can create your own version of spyware and install it on the person's computer and basically get anything you want from doing that. Email stuff, bank account stuff, cell phone records. First time I did it was about 6 years ago.

Shoot me an email and I'll tell you how to do it.

What about a maliciously crafted website with an ActiveX control or something of that like? How hard is that to pull off?

Rudey 05-13-2005 02:06 PM

What is wrong with you people?

It's tricky, but not impossible. First you gotta do a little research on ActiveX. Shoot me an email to the same addy and I'll tell you how to do it, for research purposes only.

Go to google and look up keystroker tracker or something like that.... There is software you can download and install for free. It runs in the background, you don't see it running on the toolbar or the task manager. It access it you set up hot keys. It will track the keystrokes made on the computer-- ie: passowrds! and it will record IM conversations, and all the history on the computer.
Just a reminder, if it is a shared computer (you and another person) you can always use the hot key controls and turn it off while you are on the computer, so no one gains the info about you!
Good luck.

Man, breaking into email isnt nothing. Lets just say I know several people off hand that broke into the mainframe at a certain college in Florida and changed several people's grades while adding courses and giving them a 3.6 GPA for about 2,500$ a pop.

damasa 05-13-2005 02:25 PM

Ya'll should really watch what you say on an open message board regarding this stuff. Most, if not all of it is illegal, very illegal. Spyware programs, activex controlled webpages, keystrokers, password crackers = not good.

But if ya'll want to get investigated, fine by me but I'm with Rudey on this one, what the heck is wrong with some of you?

mightymike 05-13-2005 02:29 PM

I wouldn't say that anything is "wrong" with anyone. If my email account had been hacked, I'd want to know how it could have been pulled off as well.

Dionysus 05-13-2005 02:31 PM

Yeah, don't put anything on the interweb that you don't want anyone to find out. The security sucks.

Right, but then if the original user went to log in, they'd be locked out b/c the password had been changed. Which would tip them off to some funky activity.

ETA: And, the original user would get a notification email to their alternate email address that their password had been changed.

I'm talking about knowing the EXACT password.

yes the original user would encounter having to do the same thing...

BUT they don't get an notification of the password change...this I know for sure.

First, it's pretty easy to hack into an email account for someone that knows what they are doing. Second, you will almost never know.

Lastly, if this certain someone was a novice on the topic you would probably figure it out pretty quickly because they would do some amateur password change move on you.

Encrypted email is the way to go.

cashmoney 05-13-2005 06:10 PM

Hey man, for real, we don't need to be talking about this on here.

And if there's any 5.0s on here.....i don't know anything about computers much less how to set my homepage.

This gives new meaning to the sentence "Big sister is watching you."

If you want to go a different way, go to Ebay and find a keylogger, which are about $3.00 (minus shipping) You attach it to where the keyboard meets the CPU, and after a few days, you take it off and attach it to your computer and download all the information. Passwords would be the most-appearing keystrokes.
