Bare Minerals

Since someone brought up Merle Norman (which I didn't know they still made) it jogged my memory about this.

Have anyone ever tried Bare Minerals makeup(I think the line is actualy called Bare Essentials)? What did you think?

:)

surfngurl 05-10-2005 08:33 PM

I love them! That line is the only line I will use. I have very sensitive skin and Bare Escentuals is the only thing I can use that won't make me break out. The coverage is great, you can't tell your wearing it, and it doesn't rub off when you hug people. The powder also has SPF 15 built into it, I have been really happy with it. They have really great eye shadows and glimmers too. I'd encourage anyone to give it a try.

I've heard great things about the line, but I understand that it takes some practice to get the "buff and tap" application right. Have you found this to be the case?

Really? That's the reason why I've been thinking about trying it because my oily skin is terrible to deal with in the summer.

surfngurl 05-10-2005 11:16 PM

It's not as easy to put on as a makeup sponge, but it's really not that bad. Once you get used to putting the right amount on the brush, applying it to your face is pretty much the same as putting blush on... just more circular movement and all over your face. The mineral veil does wonders for shine.

Susan_Renee 05-11-2005 12:20 AM

is it expensive? I've always been a physician's formula girl, but i've thought about trying bare minerals.

LexiKD 05-11-2005 01:15 AM

I wear it at work. I'm in the restaurant biz and cannot wear heavy make up that "melts". But I wear MNorman when I am not at work and it is great and has the best skin care I have found!

BMinerals can be bought at Sephora now.

I'm not sure how expensive it is exactly but I know at Sephora you can buy this starter kit, with all the brushes you will need, plus like 4 shades of color, plus the mineral veil and bronzer. Also they send you an instructional DVD with it and it's only $60 for everything. My friend got it and LOVES the makeup, I think when I am done with finals I'm going to reward myself with buying one of the kits. :)

KDLady00 05-12-2005 04:07 AM

I have seen it advertised on TV a lot & want to get some!
I grew up competing so I learned to do my makeup by watching the makeup artists...
Now that I have had a baby & have given myself a new make-over I think I definately wanna try this!
Does anyone know if they have a website??

AOIIalum 05-12-2005 07:07 AM

http://www.bareminerals.com/

http://www.qvc.com/asp/frameset.asp?...6285&cont=mhhb
(QVC often has some good deals on the Bare Minerals stuff.)

absoluteZChi 05-14-2005 01:23 AM

I've been using Bare Minerals for about a year...I love the fact that I don't feel the make up on my face. I use to use prescriptives and I could feel the foundation on my face. I'm still learning how to use the blush and glimmers...if you want to be on the safe side and don't use anything but foundation, I would suggest you use only the foundation and warmth, its what I started out with. The warmth gives just that to your face, oh and the mineral veil really sets it all.

Honeykiss1974 05-14-2005 01:26 AM

There is a day spa in my city that sells Bare Minerals, so I'm going tomorrow to actually test the product and see if I like it. If their are overpriced, I may buy it there, but if they are, sephora, here I come. :D

I'll let yall know my opinion of the product.

Honeykiss1974 05-16-2005 11:25 AM

My experience....

I LOVED IT!! :D

I never thought I would find something better than Lancome, but I have. The power is SO FINE, its ridiculous. And it really does provide coverage and you can barely feel it.

Bye Lancome :( (except for your mascara because it still is the bomb!)

Interesting. I use Lancome -- what kind of foundation did you use? And how is it working now that you've been using it for a few days?

I've been looking into trying Bare Minerals for a while now, but just haven't quite mustered up the courage. I think I'll go over to their store today. We also have a Sephora -- did you find it was the same price to purchase through their store?

AchtungBaby80 05-19-2005 06:01 PM

I tried it and ended up returning it, although everyone else I know who's used it has loved it. I think it was just a combination of my not being able to master the application technique ('cause trust me, it's not as easy as those ladies on TV say! :p), and my skin type...it just felt sort of like a gritty mask on my face. Just certain parts, though. I also found that it didn't cover very well on me. But I hear it's wonderful if your skin is oily--I think someone said that already. It's definitely worth a try.

MSKKG 05-19-2005 06:08 PM

I use it and love it. I want to try some of the eyeshadows and blush, but I haven't figured out which ones I want to get (and then which brush to go with them!).

WCUgirl 05-19-2005 07:43 PM

Okay, I went and had a makeover after work.

First, I LOVE the way this brings out my complexion. It doesn't "cover up" my natural color, it enhances it.

However, I'm very greasy looking. I don't know if it's the makeup that's doing it, or if it's the fact that after the lady removed my original makeup, she didn't put on any moisturizer.

I agree that it feels like I don't have much of anything on my face.

Jury's still out...

I use Lancome's Colour ID line. I like the coverage and consistency of it in the cooler months, but during the summer, my skin is so oily, that I feel like I'm wearing a mask. I do need some coverage (old acne scars) so that was my main concern with BM.

These last few days have been pretty hot and humid here and so far the BM has held up really well. I have felt like I'm not wearing anything at all. :)

Resurrecting the dead. . .

Leslie and the group from Bare Escentuals were on QVC from 9-11 and will be there again today from 3-5 (ET) and tomorrow from 1 AM-3 AM and 7 PM-10 PM (ET).

I thought I'd never use anything else but MAC, but I really do like the BE. I originally was using warm tan, but it seemed to be just a little bit ashy looking on me (and it's possible that I was using too much Mineral Veil as well). So a couple of months ago, I went to the BE store and exchanged the foundation, and the salesperson gave me just a little face color to add to my MV and suggested that I wear the face color as foundation instead of the foundation (she said it was the exact same ingredients as the foundation), and I'm quite happy! She also suckered me into a beautiful shadow (panther), that she "loves with darker skin tones" and I got the flawless application brush. Within the last couple of years, I have indeed become a "makeup junkie".

I'd love to hear more of your experiences with BE.

skylark 09-19-2007 11:48 AM

I of course started out with the foundation (in medium) and now use BE for eyeshadow (i LOVE celestine), blush, fake tanner, lipstick, concealer, etc. I think the only thing I don't use it for is mascara (I use Lancome). You really do feel like throwing your old makeup away after you try this brand...

Also, I have to visit family in Missouri frequently and BE was a lifesaver when I was there one August. I hadn't yet committed to wearing the makeup every day, but would alternate between my previous makeup and BE. When I was in Missouri, though, the humidity was so bad I couldn't even apply my regular makeup. In the end, my hair still looked like crap because of the humidity, but at least my makeup stayed on!

Cane94G8r97 09-19-2007 11:51 AM

Totally Hooked...

I always watched the infomercial and I always wondered about the BE products. A fwe months ago I was visiting a friend in Orlando and they actually had a BE store. After I spent WAY too much money on make up, I am now very happy that I did. I feel my skin is heathier and I get a ton of compliments on looking great "without" make-up on when the truth is that I am wearing the BE Foundation and the warmth!

I still go to Chanel when I need a fierce red lipstick, though.

That's the store I went to. So they have that store, and Sephora is just a few steps away, unfortunately. ;)

LPIDelta 09-19-2007 12:00 PM

They put together some very cute sets for QVC--often you can get some good deals there and they will include items in QVC kits that are different from "retail". If you don't have time to watch, visit the website to see what they have.

That said, I have moved away from BE because I could not find a color I liked (I looked orange in photos :( ) and I found out that it is not as "natural" as I thought. I now buy my mineral make up from beautyblisscomsmetics.com thanks to a sorority sister who turned me on to them. Prices are a little better and the color selection in foundations is amazing!

I got 3 samples of their eye shadow. I like that you can buy the small samples because I don't wear makeup everyday, so it lasts for quite a while. Now I need to come up with a makeshift sifter so it won't be so messy.

smiley21 09-19-2007 02:14 PM

I have been wearing Bare Minerals for a year and a half now. It is the only makeup that I want to wear. I love the way my skin looks with it on my face. :)

Oh yes--I LOVE the samples. Only a few dollars and you can have a ton of eye shadow colors. I tip the pot over so some product gets on the lid, tip it back over, and then use what is in the lid so that I don't get too much.

Really? I'd be interested in hearing about that... I'm very concerned about using non-natural products.

If you use moisturizer before putting it on, it goes on much easier.

I've been using B.E. for a few years now. I like how it matches my skin tone, and my skin always comes out looking very nice and smooth in photos, too! :) I also use the eyeshadows, liner shadows, lip gloss, and some of the other face products like warmth, glee, beauty, etc.

Well many cosmetics use something called bismuth oxychloride as a filler. You can read more about that here.

My sorority sister did the research on this and bismuth is basically a relative of arsenic and is used industrially for many things. Essentially, it is not natural, and while only part of many cosmetics, can still be harmful. Obviously people can argue that it needs to occur in large doses before it causes problems, but for me I say why take the chance.

Drolefille 09-19-2007 05:39 PM

How is it unnatural if it is a metal + salt? That's pretty "natural" to me. Just because something has other uses doesn't mean it's bad for you. Sounds like the most bismuth oxychloride causes is skin irritation. And trusting a competitor's website isn't exactly the most unbiased source.

I thought the same thing but actually if you Google bismuth oxychloride several pages come up with info about it from other sources. And this is certainly a personal decision everyone should make after doing their research. For me, I would rather go with something that does not contain this ingredient, among others.

ThetaPrincess24 09-19-2007 05:49 PM

I love BE and is pretty much the only make up that I wear plus or minus a couple other products from some other companies (make up wise not skin care). I refuse to go back to the heaviness of liquid foundation. It makes my skin feel dirty anymore.

I watched the BE show this afternoon on QVC and ordered two new products the lipstick duo (before it sold out) and the RareMinerals Blemish Treatment. I love the RareMinerals Night Treatment so I'm excited to see how the blemish treatment works.

UGAalum94 09-19-2007 05:50 PM

And it's probably worth remembering that natural doesn't equal healthy anyway.

Rattlesnake venom is, after all, natural, but I wouldn't want it in my foundation.

(or at least I don't think I do. Maybe it'd be good for fine lines the same way botox is, which by the way, is arguably natural.)

epchick 09-19-2007 08:02 PM

Does anyone know the difference between the BE and Sheer Cover. They seem to be similar, and at first was leaning towards BE, but a friend of mine uses BE and her skin just looks OVERLY dry. So that was when I started looking at Sheer Cover.

I had a friend of mine in Beta Sigma Phi that was using sheer cover for a while. Problem is here you have to do it by mail order because no one sells it in the store. She got tired of having to do that and switched to bare minerals. She says it's about the same. I personally saw no difference either and still wouldnt know had she not told me.

The Ulta store here is starting to sell Pur mineral make up. I havent tried it myself or know anyone else that has so I dont know how good that brand is.

It looks like it's used in a lot of other kinds of makeup, not just mineral makeup - http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov...l=chem&id=1337

I'm pretty picky about ingredients and that sort of thing, but this just doesn't sound that dangerous to me. But to each their own :)

OtterXO 09-20-2007 12:29 PM

I've used Bare Esentuals for the past 2 years and love it. I've converted my mom, sister and several friends/coworkers. People always say "you have such good skin" which is the best compliment. Before they used to say "your makeup looks good", etc.

OleMissGlitter 09-20-2007 02:28 PM

I just bought the starter pack from Sephora. It has free shipping right now too. A few people in my office use it and some friends. So I finally decided to try it.

texas*princess 09-30-2007 01:44 PM

So I just got the Starter Set from ULTA today because my facial-lady said the foundation I've been using is bad for my skin and recommended I try some of the mineral foundation with SPF.

I'm kind of scared b/c I don't want to look orange.

And WTH is the difference between the BareVitamins & Foundation Primer? Can you use one or the other?

If you look, many many of these pages are copied from the same source.

Yeah, it's essentially "shimmer" as far as a I can tell. It does however fall into the natural category.
