Where/When/What?

Just curious as to where everyone's located, when you joined and what you do? Also, if you're an officer or on a committee, which one?

I am in Oxford, Georgia-- and our SID is at the University of Georgia. We should be an official chapter in Fall! Yeah! I am the Professional Development Chair.

Over the summer I work half time at teh Georgia 4-H Foundation. I am also putting in a lot of hours at my church ( http://www.geocities.com/gumcreekpc - I made the web site) working on a Journalism Internship and a Leadership Project (reorganizing our entire SS program-- moving to Rotational SS). And teh tiny other bit of time I have-- I spend it wedding planning/dreaming!

I'm from Maryland by way of Ohio. Went to OSU from 1980-1984, wow, I am really getting old. I joined Sigma Alpha in 1983 (I've always been a late bloomer).

I graduated with a Poultry Science Degree and worked for various companies in the poultry industry until 1996--then I joined a beef, pork, and lamb company. So I'm kind of a Dr. Doolittle--I have business experience with nearly all species.

Anyway, I was a Vice President of Human Resources up until 6 months ago, then I left Corporate America to start my own Human Resources Consulting and Business Coaching practice.

I was surfing around today and found Sigma Alpha's site, and also this message board.

If any sister needs help with career ideas or mentoring via email, please contact me. I love to help high potential women, especially in Ag.

BFulton 12-12-2000 03:04 PM

Kathy,

Hello! Great to see your posting. Are you getting mailings from Sigma Alpha? If not, please send me your address and we'll make sure we update the database.

Did you notice we have an interest group at the University of Maryland? I'm sure they'd be thrilled to hear from you!

In Sisterhood,
Beth

HollyWestfall 01-02-2001 02:20 PM

Hey All,

I'm in Bristol, Connecticut; I'm a CT native, and probably will be here all my life! I graduated from the University of CT (Eta chapter) in 1997, with a major in Ag & Resource Economics.

As far as what I'm doing now, well, in May of 2000, I got married (formerly Holly Boilard)--I just started a new job working for the Mega-Cities Project at Trinity College. I run the office, and have been here just about a month. Before that, I was working at local Vet Clinics, which I enjoyed, but unfortunately the money isn't what it definatley *should* be. With the marriage, and buying a house in the future (yay!), I decided I needed to find a better paying career. I do certainly enjoy what I'm doing now...its challenging & keeps my mind working, but I do miss the animals. Anyway...

The alumni from UConn have also started working on an alumni chapter, and are waiting to hear from the National Alumni Assn as to our status. I was elected President, and we are desperately seeking former Eta members! If you know of any, please give me a holler! Thanks http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Robin_Rastani 01-03-2001 12:36 PM

My name is Robin Rastani. I'm a UConn Alumni Sister, and I just recently moved to Madison, Wisconsin to begin a Ph.D. program in dairy science.

I've been a member of Sigma Alpha since the Spring of 1994, and it's allowed me to not only make some great friends and contacts, but also to improve my leadership skills and learn how to effectively communicate with a group. Then there's the philanthropy portion, which makes everyone feel like they've made a difference once a project is completed.

Have a happy new year everyone! Let's set our goals high, and achieve great things for the sorority both locally and nationally.

I miss my sisters and the close knit life of a small Ag school, but am dedicated to entering the teaching profession and am putting all my energy to that goal!

Beth,
I am Jamie Dillard from the Alpha Eta chapter at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. I rushed in the fall of 2000 (I was a transfer from LSU) and am currently the scholarship chair. You said you worked in ag communications/public relations and was wondering exactly what you did, because I am interested in that field.
Thanks,
Jamie

BFulton 04-04-2001 11:24 AM

Hi Jamie,

I'm an account supervisor at a marketing communications agency (advertising, direct, interactive, we have p.r. but not on the account I manage). Previously, I worked as an account executive and in marketing at a manufacturing company. My experience has been fairly well balanced out across ag - animal health, equipment, crop protectants. Feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions!

Sisters, Beth

Hi Beth and everyone,
I am Dominique from the Zeta Chapter, LSU. I became a member in 95. During my years in SA I was Rush Chair and President. I owe a lot of my success to SA and to the sisters I gained from the organization. When I rushed I was told my best friends would be the strangers who were in the room with me at that moment. Was that ever the truth, 4 of my SA sisters were in my wedding six years later. I currently work for Kraft-Oscar Mayer as a Quality Supervisor in the mid west.

THF78 05-09-2001 07:27 PM

My name is Pat. My daughter is in the Alpha Gamma chapter. I am a National Honorary member, inducted in 1990. I went down to C'dale last month for chapter and gave a presentation on leadership on how "life in the real world imitates college life."
