Supernanny

anyone ever see this?

it's bananas.

i'm watching this for the first time tonite....and i swear i'd kick the shit out of those kids. running drop kick and everything, lol.

i'm a firm believer in corporal punishment and i'll be damned if i ever plead with my children. people these days have no idea who to discipline children.

"please little johnny, come down here there!!! you're making daddy mad!!"

hell naw....they get told one time, and then get smacked in the head if they continue it.

I'm not really a believer in CP, but this show makes me think twice. And I thought I was a badass kid...

those parents are weak as hell. they should grow a backbone. she yells more at her man than her kids. hell naw...it'll never go down like that.

I catch snippets here and there, but I would have been arrested for sure that week the little boy spit in the nanny's hair. How in the hell do parents let pint size kids run over them?

Because they want their kids to like them, and they think, if it can be called thinking, that if they discipline their kids the way they ought (which doesn't have to include corporal punishment, but does have to include firmness, predictability and assertion of control), then their kids will think they are mean and won't like them.

Funny how they eventually figure out (if the kid is lucky) that kids really want their parents to be in charge. Control is a pretty scary thing for a 4-year-old to have to be saddled with.

i don't get it. i'm not my kid's friend. i'm their parent. i don't understand this logic.

Good. You'll be a better parent because of it.

And I wouldn't call parents wanting to be their kids' friends "logic." I'd call it immaturity.

I love boxing and this show is almost close to it. I seen this 4 year old beat her mom up. All her mom got was a right, left combo to the face. Oh yea that was after the little girl dumped water on her mom's head. The parents are the reason the kids act up, so maybe they need a beatdown more than the kids.

I watch it and Nanny 911 and I'm appalled at what I see. It's crazy. I'd NEVER let me kids get away with what those kids get away with!

Jill1228 05-03-2005 02:21 PM

THANK YOU!
I watched it for a few minutes and was like "OH HELL NAW!"
Just reading this thread brings to mind the mantra of my Moms:
"I brought you into this world and I will take your ass out!"

And yes some of the parents need a beat down for putting up with the isht!

this show came on when i was at my parents house during the holidays. mom was like "what if that was your kid, and what would you do?" i told her i would bury them in the back yard. :p

vanda 05-03-2005 03:23 PM

Did anyone catch the episode where the kid preferred to pee outdoors and the parents condoned it? And the other episode where the kid was like " I know what you're up to and you're not getting jack from me. Go back home to England because we don't care for your type around here"? Sometimes I want to wish it scripted because I just couldn't fathom a kid talking like that to me or any of my adult friends. I'm not into beating your kid, but sometimes the only thing that works is a firm swat not to show them who's boss but so they won't forget who's boss.

CTHU.
My daughter knows better than to even think about doing some off the wall isht like those horror kids on Nanny 911.
Some of those parents deserved what they got.

epchick 05-03-2005 06:27 PM

I watch SuperNanny, but I prefer Nanny 911, it was the original...and by far it is better.

I just think it is hilarious how they swear that these kids can just get better in 1 week. If the kid has been acting like that for 3-5 years, how will 1 week change their behavior?

You never seen Mexican or African-American families on there. I'll tell you something....spankings worked!! lol.

Reminds me of George Lopez and what he says about misbehaving:

Kids these days talk back, man they talk BACK. I never talked back. you see Anglo kids in the store. "No, I won't."

"Now you listen to me, Dakota. I'm the parent here. You will. Believe me. Do you want a gold star when you get home, Dakota? Because your going--you won't get The Lion King on DVD. you're not. do you want a consequence>"

I love going to teh stores and seeing parents acutally get down on one knee. "Can you understand me Tyler? This behavior is inappropriate. Well, I need to apologize to you because I was using my outdoor voice inside."

My grandmother was old-school. She would pick me up. "Vamonos, we're going. Mira, como no, que no. Vamos. Mira, you don't want to go. Bullsh*t you're going. Mira, well you know what, wait in the car. Wait in the car! Wait in the car! Why you crying? Why you crying? Well, roll down the window so you can breathe."

And if you look at the news, only white mothers have ever been arrested for hitting thier kids. Amateurs. Amateurs.

Us, we see the camera. "Mira, the camera's there. I know, mira, talk, talk proque when we get home. Mira, dance. Do it all. Throw yourself on the ground. Throw yourself. Because when I get you home, I can already feel it in my hand."

I prefer watching Super Nanny.

And, they have had at least one African-American family on there...they had twin boys.

Anyway, it just amazes me with what those kids and kids I see at work can get away with. I actually had a 4 year-old girl back-talk me while I was checking her parents out...and her parents did nothing. I will admit that I was spanked when I was little and was under control so if I even thought of saying something like that to an adult, I knew the result would not be pretty.

I'm not sure that I would spank my future kids now that I have seen Super Nanny...she has taught me a lot!

AGDee 05-03-2005 11:04 PM

SuperNanny was actually the original as it has been on in England longer than Nanny 911 has been around. They just brought it to the U.S.

thetalady 05-03-2005 11:45 PM

I watch both of these shows with my mouth hanging open in shock. I wouldn't have made it to double digits if I behaved like this as a kid.

I have only 1 thing to say.......

DUCT TAPE, BABY, DUCT TAPE!

:D

And you wouldn't have to! I have 3 and have only spanked one of them one time (when he was 3 - he's 12 now!). That was after a lot of warnings! I think most people would tell you that my kids are very well behaved and do what they are asked to do for the most part. I'm not completely opposed to spanking, but there are a lot of things to do before it comes to that.

I can't believe when I see some of those parents! The kids are dying for some control!! Maybe they do whip into shape in a week because they are so grateful for someone to be in charge!!!

Schmeer 05-05-2005 01:54 PM

That's interesting and a good point about spanking. And - I'm impressed! :-) After watching SuperNanny a few times I am a bit more apprehensive of that whole child thing! Some of those children on that show are ruthless! It's so sad. And upsetting!

I remember them, they were also featured on Oprah. In that epidsode I remember the dad was willing to beat the siht outta the boys, not very much so with the mom....I agree with the dad, heh :)

AznSAE 05-06-2005 02:54 PM

i saw a preview for this show or maybe it was the the other one, but they had to bring in 3 people to control like 20 kids, all in one family too. i think it airs next week.

I don;t have kids, but i have 2 neices and have worked at an elementary school and i have to agree that kids like it when they are told what to do. I think it has something to do with the fact that they want to seem grown up and make choices, but when they are given too much and they don't know what to do or how to act. And so having someone, such as a parent, tell them what to do makes them feel comfortable cause then they know how to act.

And i do think that many of those shows are fake, like oh kids act like totalk screw ups and then act like the nanny taught you have to behave so we can get a nice vacation or a brand new car. I saw one (don;t know which ) but the family got like $50,000. Wow, i would act like a total screw up for a week if i could get that much money.
