Cross and Crescent Magazine?

has anyone gotten a new issue this year yet?

just wondering....

docroc67 05-01-2005 12:04 PM

Brothers,

I talked to Brian Stone, LCAP Property Manager, Friday and he had no idea when it would go out. I believe that it is now in the hands of the printer.

Yours in ZAX,

Mike Raymond, Z-U Zeta

Tom Earp 05-01-2005 12:44 PM

Mike, thanks for the update!

We can only hope!

This is one of the ways while costly to keep Brothers informed of what is happening with LXA.:)

I know I am among many who look forward to getting any information from IHQ!

boz130 05-01-2005 07:53 PM

I can corroborate...per a confab w/Betsy Bly about 2 weeks ago, she said that it was just about to go to press during the last week of April.

BF

Do it now, sign up, maybe need a current Mailing address, can do that too.:)

Not only Mike Raymonds outstanding piece, but Jonos about the Alum Association Pin that was designed by Jono and helped to be put in form by Chip Hinde. I hope I got that all right?

I have one that Jono gave me and is very impressive.

A great item that would mean a lot to any Zeta Alum and used as a Fund Raiser.

LXAAlum 05-09-2005 12:50 PM

Got it today!

Wow...check out page 29, lower left corner - Captain John Trylch - the most outstanding High Alpha I've ever seen, and I've seen very good (and a few not-so-good) ones!

John was and is the most gifted leader I ever had the pleasure of knowing, and, he has had quite the Army career. I was invited to his ROTC commissioning ceremony - quite moving - and quite a resume he had already (was prior enlisted before college).

John is in charge of a Troop of Calvary, in Iraq. If you do a google search on his name, you'll find he's been interviewed by Stars and Stripes regularly, and, has also been highly decorated.

I wish him the safest of travels home to his wife. Last I knew, they were in California, but, I think he's relocated for his current unit. Join me in praying for his safety.

Mailing address - send him a line!

Mike Raymond's article on King Rene was excellent and did indeed reflect a lot of research. The other stories were also very good, but one in particular had special meaning for me personally.

I remember being at the awards ceremony at the 1973 General Assembly (my first) and how totally blown away I was at the speech given by the Duke Flad winner. He was just a college kid like me but he spoke with such eloquence I just could not believe it. I am still impressed by it to this day, although I really don't recall exactly what he said.

Then to read that the speech was taped and played for Will Geer later on, which helped launch Michael O'Neill's acting career, was really cool. I didn't even know that brother had turned into an actor.

I wouldn't mind hearing it again myself after 32 years! Is it on the website?

Jono

Well I finally got a copy of the C&C. I started to go through withdraw. Very interesting issue. I will definitely get on our Kappa about adding Mike's article to our new member booklet.

ZetaPhi708 05-12-2005 11:51 AM

Yeah I was starting to go thru withdrawal too, till the issue arrived in the mail on Monday. Really great articles. There was one letter to the editor that got my attention tho....about publishing non-positive things, I guess like chapters on probation, etc etc., things like that.

Brothers, what do you think about that? Should the C&C devote a page to discuss chapters that are having problems, either internally or externally?

Check out Page 40...and support your advertisers!

One of my brothers mentioned that I have an article/letter written in the C & C I havent seen it yet, but I remember what it is I think.

Great issue

Mine arrived on 5/12. Haven't had a chance to realy review it yet, but this issue looks SUPER. I even called Betsy Bly to compliment her.

JonoBN41 05-14-2005 08:51 PM

Last June the name of one of our brothers from Beta-Nu appeared in the Omega section of the Cross & Crescent. I immediately called him up and he denied being dead. I had no choice but to believe him. A Correction was printed in the Fall 2004 issue.

His name appeared once again in the latest issue so again I tried to call but got no answer. I sent him an e-mail and after 4 days got no reply. I began to worry that maybe this time he really had passed away.

This evening the phone rang. It was him. Once again he denied being dead and explained he'd been out of town all week on business.

Betsy Bly, if you're listening, please verify the names you print on that page!

We did have two other brothers who really did die recently and I sent in all the pertinent information, including the dates, but all that appeared were the names.

Stuff like this is important to us.

Jono

ZetaPhi708 05-15-2005 01:58 AM

Jono, I called in information pertaining to my chapter brother, Ben Bedford III, passing away on November 9th. Nothing was posted this issue. I may try to fax a copy of his obit to LCA HQ next week.

Eric_Berger 05-16-2005 04:34 PM

Am I the only one who hasn't gotten a copy yet?

in ZAX,
Eric

Tom Earp 05-16-2005 05:13 PM

Well Bill, I did look at Page 40!:)

Check Page 37 also another of Our GC Brothrs, Richard Fong!!!!!!

Way To Go Sniff Dawg!:) Outstanding.

Also emailed Betsy about the new issue and mentioned the good, the bad, and the ugly and she agreed.
Maybe it will help current Active Zetas to see what can and will happen when it comes to Risk Management!

re: omegas not omegas

Seems this is a chronic problem...our chapter usually has
one of these every year or so. Of course HQ depends on
info from brothers, who are sometimes mistaken when
they report it!!

The best one was a recent-graduate brother reported
to have been on one of the 9/11 planes....newspaper
reporter in KY got the info wrong...reporter was a LXA
brother so reported it to HQ, who reported it to the
chapter's High Pi, who reported it to the president of
the college, who sent a "voicemail to campus"
(its a small campus), which really started the rumor
like wildfire....

Within a couple of hours brothers were at the front
desk of the supposedly-dead brother's office....
the secr. said he was in a meeting....the "mob"
demanded he be "produced" immediately...
the meeting was interrupted, he was "produced",
and then couldn't understand why so
many guys were hugging him and crying.

So, it CAN be worse than just a misprint in
the OMEGA section ;)
