Purists will drink it neat (straight) or with a splash of water, never mixed to dilute the flavor of a good single-malt. If you're drinking a blend such as Chivas, J&B or Johnnie Walker Red, it's not so critical. Even better than 18-year old Chivas is it's older relative, 21-year old Chivas Royal Salute. Johnnie Walker Blue Label is tops in blends, but mighty expensive. (JW Red - aged 7 years; JW Black - aged 12 years; JW Gold - aged 18 years; JW Blue - uses the finest and rarest scotch, some aged up to 60 years.) |
My Dad works for a distillery that bottles scotch, but I don't drink it. I am from the Bourbon Capital of the World and I can't stand bourbon.
However, I do partake in some Patron shots when I can afford it. I never pass up a shot of that. It's the best! Very smooth. Alot of tequilas are so abrasive. This one isn't. |
Tequila is so much more than the rot-gut they serve at the bar for a quick drunk.
Like champagne, tequila is a 'controlled appelation', meaning that only liquor that is distilled from agave plants near Guadalajara, Mexico can carry the name Tequila. Monte Alban (yes, the one with the embalmed worm :D) is also a tequila, but can't legally call itself that, so it goes by the name 'mezcal'. Patron is one of the high-class, top-shelf super premium tequilas. Cuervo is your garden variety stuff, though they have various degrees of quality. Here's a site with all the info you need to know to be an educated tequila swiller... :D http://www.tastings.com/spirits/tequila.html |
I'm a big fan of scotch, and have become even more of a fan lately. If I'm not having a beer, chances are you'll see me with a glass of scotch.

I like Pinches-Scotch, too. |
Wow, from scotch to tequila in only five posts! :p
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a free scotch tasting run by Johnnie Walker. Very interesting. We tasted a few single-malt scotches and Johnnie Walker Gold (though we were told that if we wanted to try Blue Label we'd have to shell out the money ourselves for a bottle :p ). It's interesting to see and taste the differences in single-malt scotches from different areas of Scotland. |
I never drink Scotch unless I am already drunk!! Tequila gives me a terrible headache - and I'm not talking about a headache from drinking too much.
I'm just a Bourbon or beer kind of gal.;) |
You guys need to drink the Don Julio Tequila, very good stuff. But it's definitely made to sip on or take shots....not for drinks.

Some of the single-malts from the smaller distilleries are quite good, though they are sometimes hard to find. |

Don Julio makes a good Anejo, but I'm not sold on the others. It depends on your taste in tequila, as well - if you like reposados, one of the finer comes from Cuervo, actually - Cuervo Reserva de Familia (usually just called "reserva") is amazing, but runs in the $90-$100 range. Put it in a snifter and sip - it's unreal. If you want to go a little cheaper, try el Corazon or el Tesoro. If you're into blancos, Patron is really about the best you can do. Actually, if you REALLY want to get into it . . . some of the best booze in the world is coming in the form of mescals, which are identical to tequilas but are created outside the Tequila region. Del Maguay would be a good starter there. |

I'm also a fan of the Glenmornagie Port Barrel I've also been hopping to taste a Glen Breton Rare (only single malt whisky brewed in North America - can't be called single malt scotch for legal reasons). |

I like Patron Reposado. I have had the silver too, I guess I like both equally. Hell, its PATRON! LOL. :D |
Although I like single malts my favorite is a blend called Famous Grouse. Outstanding scotch. Anybody tried it?

bourbon.

Okay, sorry I couldn't help but put it in here as it was the first thing I thought of when I read the post title. I myself, am not a huge fan of scotch, but I do like tequila. Of course my favorite is gin. |
