Doctor Who
Ahhh.....
I've watched a couple of episodes of the new Dr. Who and it's looking good - thankfully with much improved production values as compared to the original, while retaining the humorous and intelligent writing. Has anyone else seen it? |
I love this show! But I've always been a big fan of Dr. Who. I used to watch the classic episodes when I was younger. I am so excited that they've brought it back. I've caught every episode so far. On CBC, they've only aired the first 3 episode. I believe the UK is one or two episodes ahead.
Unfortunately, Christopher Eccleston will not be returning next season as the Dr. Instead, we will get Dr. #10. |
now i am really happy.....return of the one of the best shows on television ever....
|
I've been watching the new Doctor Who as well. It's not airing in the US, but I've found all four eps that have aired to date on the internet. They usually show up within a few hours of being aired in the UK.
So far so good... looking forward to more :) |
I haven't seen the new one, as I am in the US, but I can't imagine a remake...
Though, I did end up liking the new BattleStar: Gallactica, so, I will hold off on judgement. It's weird though, people just recently were asking me if my Doctor Who shirts were concert tees for The Who, like they did a tour called Doctor or something. It's amusing. |
I haven't seen an episode since I was probably 6 years old, but I just remember my older cousin being fanatic about that show. He had my mom knit him a rediculously long scarf to wear. It is funny how all these things are resurfacing now.

Does anyone happen to know if the ORIGINAL shows are on DVD?

Has anyone heard yet if the new episodes will be airing in the US yet?
From the Canadian website, it looks like there were 13 episodes and he regenerated into incarnation #10. |
As far as I know, there are still no plans to air them in the US. :(
Your information is correct. There were 13 episodes, and the Doctor did indeed regenerate. I believe the next new episode is a Christmas special, followed by another season that will start to air in January in the UK. |

Followed by the second season.... with cameo appearances by 'old' Dr. Who characters; some even reprising their old characters :) I can hardly wait. |

AARRGHHH!!!! Hope the SciFi Channel can get the rights to air them....intact and in order..... Would love to find out also which of those characters will be making cameo appearances, probably past companions. |
Late boots....
I finally started watching Doctor Who after being convinced to try them out. Plus they are free on Amazon Prime. OMG SO MANY FEELINGS. I just started Season 3. |
I just started season 2 after being convinced. So in love!
|
So glad this thread got bumped! I'm eagerly anticipating the 50th anniversary special on 11/23 (an early birthday present for me ;) ) and I'm interested to see the new 12th Doctor.
I love the new series, but classic Doctor Who is not to be overlooked. |
Let us know when you get to Blink.....
|
Just met Martha. I almost cried at the Norwegian beach scene with Rose and the Doctor.
|
The new Doctor was presented in a special a few weeks ago. Curious to see the special in November!
|
The 12th Doctor won't be in the 50th Anniversary in November - but John Hurt (8.5th Doctor) will be. Peter Capaldi won't be seen (probably) until the Christmas episode. But then again, who knows with Moffat!

Is anyone else trying to catch up before the Day of the Doctor?
|
DH is obsessed with Doctor Who! It's not my typical thing to watch honestly...I'm not a SciFi person.
We're having a viewing party at my house on Saturday. DH rented a 70" tv to watch it on and he wants to go all out with Doctor Who themed stuff. It's kinda driving me a little crazy lol. |
the face of Bo....
Are you my mommy? what ever you do, don't blink! Where is *my wife*! |

I love vintage Doctor Who. I'm currently re-watching the Key to Time season.
|
Love!

I am so looking forward to the 50th anniversary special. :D

It's taking me a long time to get into the Matt Smith episodes. There's nothing wrong with them per se, but there is absolutely no connection to the previous seasons except for the TARDIS. New Doctor, new companion..... and dare I say even new camera angles. And of course, this is when the EP/head writer changed.
It's like watching a reboot of the entire series. I may skip the rest and just watch the Day of the Doctor. |
Don't forget to check your local listings, as the 50th Anniversary airs at 2:50pm EST. It's a GLOBAL broadcast, airing in America at the same time it airs in England. No commercials either.
|
I see what you mean, very different from the way the show was before. I really like Matt Smith as the doctor though, but maybe that's because I never saw the earlier seasons, I only started watching those after the 9th, 10th and 11th.

I just posted this as a fb status:
Confession: I skipped most of the Matt Smith years. I am now watching BBC America so I suppose this is Clara's first episode. Here's what I think went wrong. Davies spent entirely TOO much time making the specials his and David Tennant's "farewell tour." We literally see what happens to each and every companion. Everything is tied up in a neat bow - and perhaps it becomes emotional for no reason. When Moffat takes over, he has a clean slate. Which is fine if you are rebooting the entire show, but this is supposed to just be another season, you know? It's too different for me to just jump in. From Series 1 to 2, Rose was the constant after the doctor regenerated. Then we got Martha who was brilliant, but was only for that season. Then we got Donna who was ALSO brilliant, and thankfully just a platonic friend (which was something else the Doctor needed). But then we get to the specials where the Doctor is solo, which is good, BUT... that's where the emotional manipulation comes in. Everything's soooooo sad and soooooo big. Moffat's writing is adequate, but doesn't compare to Davies to me. The acting is still good. Here's what I'd like to see in the future aside from a woman doctor and a doctor of color: A male, solo, platonic companion. I just want to see him have more companions who don't fall in love with him or flirt with him. The doctor needs friends. Frat brothers. A lodge. Something. Maybe that happens in the Matt Smith years. And I know there have been male secondary companions like Micky, Jack, Rory, and Wilford/Wilfred, but I want a real dude who gets stories like Rose and Donna on a long term basis. Anyway, onward to the Day of the Doctor! |
See the Google Doodle in celebration of Dr. Who today.

Happy 50th Anniversary to Dr. Who but what's 50 years to a Time Lord.
Here's all of the themes over the last 50 years: http://youtu.be/a1AnTi1X2QM |

Who's watching BBCAmerica at 2:50pm eastern today? |
I'm taping it and watching it with some friends when they get off work (will basically have to stay off the internet this afternoon).
And FYI, Sen, apparently the role of the 12th Doctor was offered to a black man (people speculate Idris Elba), who turned it down. That's according to Stephen Moffatt. |
MIND BLOWN!!!! THE DOCTOR IS BAD-ASS!! THE LAST 8 MINUTES!!!! EPIC!!!!
|
Oh. My. God!
That was freaking awesome! DH & I loved it! |
