Nicknames for KA Girls: Belle, Daughter of Lee, etc.
I was just wondering for those who have Kappa Alpha Order on your campus. What are the nicknames or what do they call the girls that hang out there. I have heard of Belle, and Daughter of Lee.
Any others out there? |
Are they allowed to have a sister group or auxillary organization? I thought everyone had outlawed them . . . for whatever reason.
I think most of the Fraternities I know just called then girls that always hung out, groupies or Frat Rats. |
NO, there are no "little sisters" anymore but from my experience girls usually tend to hang out with one fraternity, and they become labelded with that fraternity.
Then the nicknames are posted to identify that that's where they hang out. But no it is not little sisters. They are not allowed by any national fraternity's nationals I do believe. |
on my campus, they call them "the girls who hang out at xyz fraternity" ...lots of meaning in that name...
|
we call them Dreamgirls or sometimes Carnations
|
On my campus, KA little sisters were called Southern Belles. (This was a while back though.)
|
Back in the day, they were called KA Ladies.
|
Keep em coming
Thanks for your replies! Keep 'em coming for all of you out there!
|
I think we used to call them "House Whores."
|
We just call them 'hookers'
|
frat whore, or we give them the frat's name, ie XY Whore vs ABC Whore
|
women........
|
Some people call them XYZ groupies.
|
Southern Belles
|
We called them XYZ groupies, especially the randoms that are ALWAYS around a certain fraternity.

/kinda hijack/
A portion of the student body at Texas A&M is in the Corps of Cadets (the military unit) and we called girls who chased guys in the Corps 'Quad Queens' (because the Corps lived in the Quads) or 'Boot chasers'. The seniors in the Corps earned the privilidge to wear riding-style boots. Very handsome on the men. ;) But, to answer your question, I *think* the nickname I heard most often used the title belle. As you can see, the overall point is that girls who obviously chase a certain group of guys is usually not given a nice name....I know, a double standard.... /end kinda hijack/ |
Well...
a Fraternity on UofL's campus used to call this girl that was ALWAYS there the "house mouse." She lived there with her boyfriend and would always shower there, etc. She did everything there! Eventually, the guys kicked her out and the housing board told her she couldn't live there anymore. I know that it really annoyed the guys that she was there, so they were glad to see her go. She was in a sorority also, which didn't look very good on her chapter.

I think the problem comes in when girls sleep around the house and base their life around being a "KA Girl, Belle or Daughter of Lee". You are your own person. Girls (generally) who decide that they "belong" to a fraternity get reputations "Oh I am such good friends with all of the KAs. They just love me. At least one of them calls me to go over to the house every night and hang out. Around 3 am."
|
don't forget their KA Rose

slore's thats what we call them here

I am not talking about girls who really just hang out and have the bad names, I am talking about ladies who if it were "legal" to have lil sisters would be. Basically nicknames for unofficial lil sisters.
|
Oh wow you are stupid
|
That is uncalled for and I don't think you are representing your organization in a positive manner by your hateful and inmmature comments. Maybe you need to find another topic to post on because your input is not needed here. Thank you.
|
Perhaps this simply is not a common practice at many schools, so people are having trouble responding to the request.

I think what you are seeing is the distain for girls whose main identity is tied to a fraternity...which they are not a part of. Honestly, who cares what they call the girls who hang out at a fraternity. Respect does not come (from me at least) because you can sit on some guy's couch, drink his beer and make him feel important because you are hanging on his every word. Additionally, if organizations do not exist, how can we name what they would be if they did exist. That is part of your question, right?
So to be clear that I'm not creating a double standard. Guys who dedicate themselves to a sorority are equally strange to me. I don't mean to sound mean, but, to me, being a 'little sister' when the org does not exist, is not the same as being a member of a Greek org, it just seems like a groupie. |
well said Little E :)

I think people were giving pretty honest answers to the OP's question. That's what those girls do get called, no matter what the fraternity or what the campus |
I think where the confusion lies is that even though little sister groups are pretty much outlawed today, they do still exist "unofficially" on many campuses.
I think these are the names that OP was looking for. I can't remember what the KA little sisters were called on my campus, but as carebearwcu mentioned, they did have their KA Rose who was the "head" little sister. Granted, people who are not in that GLO (and, a few of the brothers in that GLO), will still sometimes refer to these little sister groups as frat rats, house whores, XYZ whores, etc., when this is not necessarily true of all of these women (sure, there are some). I think roqueemae's comment was totally uncalled for. Edited for further clarification: Not all little sisters were frat rats, and not all frat rats were little sisters. Sometimes the members of the little sister groups would make fun of the girls that hung out w/ the fraternity but weren't little sisters...and call them house whores. :p Most of the time the "Rose" or "Sweetheart" (head little sister) WAS a little sister -- she was just the one that was chosen to be included in the composite since she received the honor. Another difference is these little sister groups could wear letters, put the fraternity's sticker on their car, etc., whereas a plain old frat rat cannot. |
At Roanoke, KA's pledge class sweethearts are called magnolias and the chapter sweetheart is called the Rose.
|
At W&L, there is no such practice with the Alpha Chapter of KA.

i graduated in '99, but my actaul little brother was a KA, so they asked me to be a "southern Belle." i guess they don't do that anymore? i had such a good time with those guys--lots of "responsibilities," but lots of fun too!!!
|
When I was in school in the 80s, they were called Southern Belles. Now that little sister groups are forbidden, I would doubt they would call women anything that could be construed as confering "little sisterhood" on them.
As a sidenote, the little sisters of my ex-husband's Sigma Chi chapter ended up founding the Delta Gamma chapter at our university. If you want a name or letters, do it for yourself and join a GLO that will be interested in developing you personally.:) |
Southern Belles down here.

Please, do elaborate on these "responsibilities"... |

OP: we call them groupies at me school...the girls we call groupies are the ones that constantly try to rep a frat just because she's been accepted there. keep it moving honey, don't be a KA groupie! i don't see anything wrong with being close with a particular frat because that's just who you hang out with, but if you want to be greek, don't live vicariously through KA. find a GLO that fits you! |
Given the honorary memberships of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, Phi Mus have the best claim to being "Daughters of Lee" or "Southern Belles"!!!
