Google Lets You View Your House From Space POSTED: 2:02 pm CDT April 5, 2005 Online search engine leader Google has unveiled a new feature that will enable its users to zoom in on homes and businesses using satellite images. The satellite maps could unnerve some people, even as the technology impresses others. That's because the Keyhole technology is designed to provide close-up perspective of specific addresses. Users at Google Maps can choose between either a traditional road-map graphic when looking up locations and directions, or use the space-based maps. --------- the link has the link to google maps. I looked up my address-- it looks like my neighborhood, but that satelite image is a couple of years old. There is a school not to far behind by neighborhood and it is not in the picutre. |
Too cool - you can see my swimming pool and everything!
|
WTF... that's kinda scary.
|
It can't find my apt. complex. :(
I did pull up my office building and my parents' house -- definitely older pics! |
The satellite picture has to be at least 2 years old. When I looked up my parents address, the house still had the old roof tiles (they changed the color of the roof).
Still pretty scary, though! |
Well, I found frat row........
|
kinda freaky
 |
What could that do for stalkers? Sounds creepy to me. Nonetheless, I'm off to look for my house...
|
I looked up Stone Mountain (in Georgia) and saw the buildings on top!!
I hate the it won't zoom in more on some of the places I'd recognize. I can't really see anything. |
The pictures are 3-4 years old.
Or at least they were for the OKC metro. |
So cool. Make me feel I was back in Buffalo.

I could have sworn that there were other websites that allowed you to do the same thing.
Either way, you can't make out too much detail, either on my current home or my parents' house. |
wow, that's cool! can't really see my house too well, though.
|
How do you get the pictures? All I get is a map.
|
I clicked on satelite and all I get is bad links (red x's)?

I was over at a friend's house last night and used his computer to check my e-mail. He then MADE ME look at my house using the google map or whatever. I thought it was funny.

it's not quite exactly. i entered my parents address and it gives an arial view of the neighborhood but they seem to think my parents house is a couple hundred yards up the street and on the opposite side. It also didn't get that close. I've seen closer pics.
It doesn't find my apartment building very well at all either! But then again, my apartment is about 4 years old |

The shots of San Antonio were taken before or about March of 2004.
The parking lots on campus that were closed to construction (and are now) were still open. The new dorms that opened in August are only half done (construction took about a year). and the grass on the ground looks dead/or dried up anytime between September/February. My best guess is Feb 04. |

We've lived in our current house about 2 1/2 years, but the satellite photo shows it as an empty lot. Guess the database is a little dated.
As for it being a little off, I checked several locations and it appears to me that the "arrow" generally points to a place in the street where the address begins -- as oppossed to the house itself. That makes some sense to me. Things don't line up perfectly in real life. |
kinda freaky...but cool

You do get some killer views of Kennedy Space Center on there. I was pretty surprised, because I figured it would be blacked out like I've seen of some satellite photos of gov't installations or airports.
|
:( It couldn't zoom in any..
