I am the proud owner

of a 20 pound white cat named Brando.

He came from Animal Friends and took all of three hours last night to decide it was a good idea to sleep in my bed.

This is the first night he's exploring the rest of my apartment and he keeps running down the stairs to my front door and meowing - what's up with that? It's not like he went outside at the shelter, so maybe he's smelling the aroma of the tons o' dogs that are in our neighborhood or my downstairs neighbor's hamster.

if I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll put them in the cute kittie thread. :)

Oh wow, congratulations!

Big cats are awesome. My cat Moortje was about 20 pounds and he would walk on me to wake me up. That wasn't pleasant. Have fun with him!

AOII_LB93 03-30-2005 02:42 AM

Congrats on your newest family member, big cats are cool. One of my coworkers has one who is sweet as pie and about 26 lbs.:)

honeychile 03-30-2005 03:00 AM

Congratulations, 33girl!!!

Congratulations, Marlon!!!

My brother once had a Maine Coon Cat. When that sucker sat in your lap, you knew it!! As it is, Marlon is larger than my Buffy (the Bichon Frise)!!

Maybe they could get together for a play date?

kstar 03-30-2005 03:25 AM

Wow, that's a cat that could rival my Ralph Tucker for size. Last weigh in, the vet was surprised at him, she did a BMI, and was shocked because he isn't fat, he's just BIG!

I have a theory that he has some bobcat in him somewhere in the line.

But aren't the big cats the sweetest ones? Like, they know they can handle themselves, so they don't have to compensate?

winnieb 03-30-2005 04:24 AM

Congrats!! I love big cats... they are the sweetest!

Congratulations! That cat is bigger than two of my dogs! Also, thank you for choosing to rescue an animal from a shelter!

_Opi_ 03-30-2005 11:04 AM

Congratulations..

Brando is a cute name for a cat!

I'm so jealous right now :-(

woot! I'm all about the pound rescues.. all of our family pets have been from Animal Rescue League (near Wilkinsburgh) or from the Western PA Humane Society (that has a beautiful new building on the North Shore). Animal friends has a very rigorous adoption policy, but they place a lot of animals right the first time.

Jill1228 03-30-2005 12:49 PM

Congrats! Your cat is pretty much bigger than mine combined. Can't wait to see pix...

White cats are gorgeous. (SmartBlonde has a white cat who is such a lover!) :)

Rudey 03-30-2005 12:58 PM

That means it's overweight and will probably pee all over your place. This girl I know has a problem with that and they had to give her cat special low calorie food because she started getting sores or something like that.

dude, if you'd been in a cage for 9 months you'd be fat too. He's done well w/ the litter box so far.

Congratulations!

Wow, your cat is as big as my dog. :D

adduncan 03-31-2005 01:12 AM

Big cats rule!

I adopted "Trouble" from my vet when he was 6 months old. (He saw the "Sucker" tattoo on my forehead that's only visible to cats.)

"He's not going to get much bigger than this..." Right - his paws were as big as salad plates.

He's about 18# of grey and white mackerel tabby, w/ a big heavy jaw and wide shoulders like a lion. Everything but the mane. But he's a wussy sweetheart. Purrs like an engine and gets beaten up by the smallest cat in the house.

Have fun!!

Gee, nobody's stated the obvious, so I guess I better break the news: 33girl, you are NOT the proud owner of a new cat. You have been adopted by Brando!
